I like Chronicles, but it’s not the same to me…
Seem we wouldn’t received any news this week… sad
The week just start, so I think it’s too early to say that
Don’t worry, even we will get no news this week, we surely will get the new dlc in this spring.
I predict this is going to be the highest selling DLC of AoE franchise of all time beating all records.
Yes, you could do campaigns from 1000 to 500 BC for Return of Rome (a Fertile Crescent DLC with campaigns for the Phoenicians, Assyrians, and Persians before Chronicles) and from 500 BC to 500 AD for Chronicles). Example:
-
Hiram/Ahiram I (Phoenicians) (before 1000-946 BC): He allied with King David and his architects built David’s Palace when David conquered Jerusalem and then Solomon’s Temple during the latter’s reign.
-
Ashurbanipal (Assyrians) (669-631 BC): His 38-year reign was among the longest of any Assyrian king. Though sometimes regarded as the apogee of ancient Assyria, his reign also marked the last time Assyrian armies waged war throughout the ancient Near East and the beginning of the end of Assyrian dominion over the region.
-
Cyrus the Great obviously (Persians) (559-530): Hailing from Persis, he brought the Achaemenid dynasty to power by defeating the Median Empire and embracing all of the previous civilized states of the ancient Near East, expanding vastly and eventually conquering most of West Asia and much of Central Asia to create what would soon become the largest polity in human history at the time. The Achaemenid Empire’s largest territorial extent was achieved under Darius the Great, whose rule stretched from Southeast Europe in the west to the Indus River valley in the east (we already see some of this in Battle for Greece).
Yes, we’ll see… The Sultans Ascend from AoE 4 was, let’s see if this DLC surpasses it…
How about add unique unit for every civ?
^I’d like that as well
That would be great… But wouldn’t it break the essence of AoE 1 that Return of Rome is trying to maintain? (Although it’s strange that they didn’t include UUs at the time of the port, since there would only be 17 UUs, although they would have to include them in the academy to maintain a certain balance)…
I see, but some Breakthrough is necessary for it. AoE2 devs have started their revolution in this 26 years old game, added more regional buildings and units, there could be another revolution for AoE1.
I bet on next month, meaning mid april, as they said in the last new infact.
One post per month for now, and they seems to focus on AoE4 DLC release for now, which seems logic too.
As AoE4 dlc comes april 8th, mid april is after that, so we’ll have more info by the end of the month, probably.
But I hope we’ll have info before mid april !
I completely don’t understand why the devs has to keep game information so strictly confidential!
Even if the trailer is scheduled to be released at a planned time, can’t they update everyone with information regularly every week?
Isn’t this more effective in increasing the discussion of DLC?
maybe, they love to see fans of their games discuss like this lol
Devs don’t need to post anything else to keep the hype.
3 images in 6 weeks is more than enough to have posts everywhere.
I would like more info or more pictures or whatever but I think if we don’t have anything today we won’t have anything until next week or after the Age4 DLC (which is understandable).
I still think they need to give early access to the usual content creators before mid-April, so we will have something to keep us awake during April nights.
If its well recieved, maybe…
If the launch is a mess most probably not
It’s going to be well received, there is 90% chances. Judging from all the enthusiasm from everyone so far.
But you are right there is still that small chance of doing mistakes.
Nah, they’re launching PS5 support bro.
They can’t delay something they did not announce you know ahaha.
Just wait and see, lots of things are coming.
Two majors reasons:
- Avoiding concurence to steal ideas and publish them before they do.
- Not lying to audience by showing indev things that changes over time.
And the minors reasons:
- make the hype grow.
- study how the hype evolve to see if they’ve bet on the right horse.
- sustaining the hype is a good way to have player sticking arround on forums to speculate.
- they seems to like reading what we’re guessing on what’s coming, so the less they tell, the more we try guessing, the more they have fun to read us.
There is also eventually the “exclusivity” idea, but as it’s microsoft behind age of empires franchise, I doubt they have to stay exclusive with anything cause they own the entire thing themself. Like I mean they’re not under contract with a silly publisher that wants to keep the hype up for everything to show at a specific date due to a stupid gamecon or planet alignement plot.
But also keep in mind one thing, the AoE games had lots of content coming this year, age of mythology, age of empires 4, sadly no aoe3 dlc, but still lots of content coming “at once”. So to keep money coming and player playing, they choose to… How do we say that in english..You know when you put the jam on the bread, it’s similar, you dispatch infos, release, on a set amount of time so that players brain can follow all what is happenning without missing anything. They started with AoM, then they go with AoE4, and after that we’ll have AoE2, cause AoE2 already had the attention on Chronicle recently even if it’s different.
There is also the risk that if you promise something, that finally you are not able to deliver, player could get upset for empty promises. I worked for a while as independnat gamedev myself, and even I did not upset players, I upset myself on making myself promise I would be able to reach a goal that I never went to, so the less you say, the less you fail, the best it is.
But the best to do would still to ask the dev that question directily on a FAQ ahah.
Of course they do, they mentionned that on the last post, they love to see how we try to guess what’s coming.
Anyone else noticed the task about “hp transformation” ? I mean, it could replace the damage graphic field of AGE eventually, but it could become a CRAZY THING for modders…
Imagine, let’s say, a ship. (Yes I love ship, but you already guessed that if you read my others posts ahaha)
Uppon 25% taken, change the graphic to remove one mast, 50% taken two mast…But, if I get correctly that task, it’s not a GRAPHICAL change…It’s definitly a unit transformation into…As in, the unit switch to another.
First it made me think about the Konnik that rise from the dead, but then I was like “well, I doubt it’s that cause there is a dead animation for the transition”. But in the patchnote they also mentionned the undead graphic will become easier to use. I wonder if it’s going to be a feature used by an ingame unit or if it’s just for mod purpose.
It could be usefull for structure, like landmines, and tree too, or herdables, or farmlands. To be honnest lots of possibility can come up from the combination of undead and hp transformation task. So impatient to see where we can go to with it as map designer !
I’ve also searched a lot about that possible fire arrow guy, to find a bow ressembling it on asian known history but I was not able to get it. What I learned is that it’w probably a Indo-Persian bow type, but that’s the only thing I managed to get.
Studying the unit card I understood it will be a LIGHT-armored (litterally no armor) unit, anti building specialized and anti ship.
Wikipedia topic about fire arrow mention usage of said fire arrow against fleet, but the SEA background doesn’t match the group using such arrows against a Song Fleet.
I’m not usre anymore about the mercenary idea, it would be the most logical, but idk, would requiere it to be on archery range instead of a unique unit. Its anti building role seems very specific for a mercenary / team bonus / what so ever unit.
But the thing that trouble me the most is those dragon head on each end of the bow, it’s definitly an asian style dragon, so in my mind, SEA is not matching for it. But I’m not an expert of asian dragon design so maybe I’m wrong on that cliché.
I tryied to find new things on the latest screenshot we saw, but the only thing I could find is a tiny blue butterfly on a tree, which isn’t new, so let’s wait for more images.
