New Expansion DLC: Dawn of the Dukes

I would be surprised if Forgotten Empires change an existing civ’s name (even though, yeah, Slavs = basically Rus).

That would set off a chain reaction of forum posts demanding a whole bunch of civs get renamed.

I dream of a Hussite campaign, but given the theme “Dawn of Dukes”, I’m not sure how well the Hussite story would fit there; since it was a religious war without any real noble leadership (the greatest Hussite commanders were all commoners). If Bohemians are in the game (fingers crossed), I can see FE choosing to tell the story of one of the Kingdom’s founders instead. We already have an excellent custom campaign on Przemysl II Ottokar that uses a hybrid Teuton/Slav civ to represent Bohemians.

And I’m sure Lithiuanians deserve their own campaign. Being sandwiched between Slavs, the Golden Horde, Poles and the Teutonic & Livonian orders, they’ve got plenty of great stories to tell.

Poles and Bohemians are most likely because they already make an appearance in other campaigns:

Poles are in Barbarossa 2, Genghis Khan 5 & Ivaylo 5.

Bohemians are in Barbarossa 1 & Genghis Khan 5 + they can also be the faction for Greater Moravia in Honfoglalas historical battle.

Obviously a Dawn of the Dukes expansion is all about Luxembourg. You can all stop speculating now.

Someone will say that Luxembourg is covered by the Burgundians?

They should just rename the Slavs to Rus or Ruthenians in my humble opinion.

Also, I am still undecided on the potential third civ.

If they keep to Slavic peoples, then I’d say the third civ would be either Serbs or Croats or Serbo-croats as a single civ. All rulers of Slavic nations held the title of Duke.

However, a very important civ that had Dukes (they call them ‘Voivode’) as rulers were Wallachia and Moldova which fit a lot in Eastern Europe. Vlad the Impaler is a major figure in the Medieval era. So a third potential civ would be the Romanians.

I think that Georgia and Armenia could be added in another DLC on their own. eg. Kings of the Caucasus.

Please add vlachs! this is my only request!

It would start a flame war if they would pick only one of Croats or Serbs.

I expect it to be Polish + some Baltic state or maybe one of the early Russian duchies. Don’t think they’ll go as east as Armenia/Georgia in this expansion, and can’t think of anything else that would be sensible to add…

Concept of Romania did not exist in Medieval times. The current campaigns actually captures the essence of the area well. There was a huge mixture of people living there, Hungarians, Slavic peoples, Saxons, and other lesser tribes.

You know Geogrphical center of Europe is in Poland, right?

I’m not talking about it geographically

So this is even worse. Poland was historicly more influenced by West, not East. Religion (Roman Catholics), Architecture, many traditions is western BUT is many eastern too. Poles consider ourselves Central - Western Culture, Eastern (Slavic) Nation. Calling Poland “Eastern European Country” is almost an insult (because this puts us in line with Russia, and we have centuries of hostile history behind us)

Of course, you still can add Poland as nation in DLC focused on East, because Poland was historicly more influential in East.

I am pretty sure that Poland is going to be in this DLC. I think a lot of people were even surprised that they added Lithuanians before they added Poland :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: Also, I think Eastern European is not an insult, there is absolutely nothing wrong with being Eastern European :man_shrugging:
