graphics of this game actually really really good when you zoom in and its not cartoonish why people think this way i dont understand.Only the physics of this game looks bad when compared to aoe3 like units go flying when the canon ball hits them or the canon balls roll on the ground after the impact.

Its the huge weapons

they made the weapons huge so we can more easily see what kind of unit is that.

yes but they are still huge

Looks like fun. Confused by the magic monsters though. Seems to be going from a historical game to a fantasy game instead. Age of Mythology ?

Well, I think the game is still cartoony, especially zooming in makes units blurry and creates a cartoony feeling. I also, think the coloring is one of the following big problems that is making it worse. Hope the new graphic improvement makes it better.

And I agree that the AOE3 physics is fantastic! I love it.

One of the big problems in this game!
Moreover, the weapons look like plastic.
The graphical improvement made the armours shiny and metally, but the weapons are still plastic…

AHhahahahahahahah
That is a poor defense on such a bad route they took on weapons.
DOTA2 etc has normal weapons with recognizable combat animations.
AOE4’s weapons are horribly too big and the animations arent that entertaining.
This is why combat is feeling boring.
DOTA2 and LOL are loved by many, it is so fun to fight and micro.
AOE4 is not!

Yes, that’s why characters frequently carry weapons bigger than their bodies. Because DotA 2 has a 100% realistic art style that doesn’t overemphasise any part of the character.

Just like Warcraft 3, where DotA came from. Total realism. Very realistic. Yeppers. You got it.

Bro im not defending it thats the reason for it and i find it logical. You said they look plastic maybe devs can improve that in aoe3 weapons shine with light for example they can maybe do that. Also people for some reason didnt like the generic units (from what i seen from other threads) but i think this way its easy to balance and make sense because some units are same for every nation just their armor or weapon looks different. Most can do in this situtaion is maybe adding regional unique units like western maa, midle eastern maa, eastern maa ext.

By the way a little information i think they are testing age of mythology retold on us by using those monster thing(graphics, animation etc.),i think enchanted grove has the same goal i hope we have been helpfull

aoe 4 pseudo cartooney style can serve for a better weapon differenciation. Also it helps to recognize units and micro properly

Hows aoe4 more cartoony then all the other aoe games and even starcraft, c&c, warcraft and most other rts games?

thats why the pseudo adjective next to it. It just that some players sees it cartooney because is not realistic feel. I suppose that reaction come from aoe 2-3 estetic and the bright colours on aoe 4 units which doesnt help which contrast with the map scene style which is more aoe3 but without reaching the realism details of aoe 3. we even had some treads about that one before like this one [GRAPHICS] Relic's responce to 'cartoony' graphics crit for COH3

contrast or taste? dunno

it’s just a fun event…

Because they think that fornite kids like RTS… to the point where they use Mythical units in a historical game lol,

imo that conclusion comes from the key difference in aoe4’s art style vs og games, og games had much busier, grittier visuals, with DEs additing extra detail that made it even more evident, aoe4 meanwhile, mostly pre S5 but to limited extend after that patch as well, just way less, has very soft textures, smooth like butter, and till S5, the inadequate renderer caused extreme blur over already softer textures, imo aoe4 style is realism like past aoe, but the seemingly malfunctioned renderer never managed to deliver that visual, as it blurred many details, had some issues with materials and ofc broken AO, S5 imo more or less solves this, there is some work to do imo on water visual, and argueably physics, but the rest is where it should be imo
