Basically how I feel, but instead of restraining myself I realized that whatever social punishment there is coming from the denizens of this place is inconsequential so I just treat them like they deserve. It’s also entertaining to see people who claim to be smart and mature absolutely losing it at the mere thought of an internet stranger in a vidya forum slightly disagreeing with them.
I wouldn’t mind Venetians as a campaign-only civ. Much better than being represented by the Portuguese.
Tbf æsþetic DLCs as a way to make more money for the game without bloating has been requested here for a long time.
Wishful thinking. If AoE1 (which is a completely different game) isn’t popular because it competes with AoE2, why would a reskin of AoE2 that doesn’t play with its medieval counterpart work?
I still remember people claiming it was just a mod (even after seeing all the animations).
Legacy of Rome expansion with Vlachs civ and Romans, Turks and Ruthenians (formerly Slavs) campaigns.
Teuton comes from the latin word they used to describe themselves during the middle ages and is cognate with the native word they use to describe themselves today. Honestly it’s much more accurate than “Germans” if you ask me.
How does that make the work “Germans” better? Besides, that’s the name the italians used for the germans, not the germans themselves.
I’m pretty sure changing their language is about as easy as changing the architecture. My guess is that they don’t want to change the civ for that scenario because they don’t want to make a western european donjon.
The word “teutonicus” was amply used in the middle ages. Iirc at first they used “teutonicus”, “germanicus” (and their german counterparts “deutsch” and “germanisch”) interchangeably but “teutonicus” and “deutsch” ended up being the norm.
Turns out they indeed are going to add AoE1 civs into AoE2 proper. Who would have thought?
I mean, Gaels are Celts. Rus are Slavs too but so are many other civs. Gaels aren’t competing with anyone for the title of Imperator Celticum.
Except Vlachs.
It could be an special DLC for the players at the tournament, maybe
Yeah, for unit skins. I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone requesting an animated icons dlc.
I’d say it’s them testing the waters.
Same with Sicilians and Burgundians
A bit stretchy, if they ever make a Roman campaign I would add dark ages civs like Vandals and Saxons.
But to stay on your proposal also an “I won’t return to Rome” dlc with Nubians and Romanians (kushites and dacians for Ror) to show a bit of self awareness about Ror “success”.
To change the architecture you only need a trigger (they did with Edward longshanks “Sicilians”), to change the language you need a mod.
Maybe but it’s a good opportunity to add campaigns for all these civs.
Fair but I still think creating a new donjon skin is a much bigger hurdle.

Any new DLC announcement might be at the end of the tournament when viewership will be at its peak.
Yeah that’s what I was thinking.
Well, it wasn’t going to be while the stream wasn’t working haha!
Well…maybe V&V, there was an update to the microsoft_playtest branch on february 8th.
Now there was an update on february 22nd, tho it was mostly a pathfinding and bug fix update.
So maybe the playtest was for that update, or maybe it was for V&V which released on march 14th.
Now…If that playtest was for V&V, then playtesting started about 5 weeks before release, which if the same is the case now, approximately 5 weeks from now is the 5th anniversary of DE, on november 14th.
Yeah this is what I was figuring when we got nothing on the 25th Anniversary days. Likely a reveal on RBW, for release on the 14th of November.
Speaking of RBW. When they (finally) got the stream going, one of the announcers said “We have a huge presentation for you tomorrow”. Which is weird, as they only have AoE2 tomorrow, just like today. The days after is AoE4+AoE2 and AoM+AoE2.
Tomorrow is the day of the giveaway. So I wonder if there will be a presentation then, where the DLC might be announced.
So, I don’t think there’s any previous example of a DLC being announced as early, 5-6 weeks before, except RoR. V&V was 3 weeks before, but they had a franchise wide event, otherwise it may have been announced a week-ish later. Other DLCs were announced about 2 weeks prior to release.
That being said, I can see this happening. This is believed to be a large, anniversary DLC. It’d make sense you’d want to give it more time to hype it up. Also from a practical standpoint, if you have 4 or maybe even more civs, then content creators (assuming they’re going to do another creator preview like TMR, and I don’t see why they wouldn’t) are going to have more to cover, so more or longer videos, so more time is needed.
Maybe tomorrow is a bit early speaking strictly from a practical standpoint, but announcing during RBW would be the kind of pomp and circumstance you’d expect for an anniversary DLC.
Yes absolutely, and no one is denying that. But because it is a Latin adjective, we still use ‘teutonicus’ (=‘teutonico’) in Italian as adjective with the same meaning and my annoyance is all there.
Edit. It is a small matter in the end, and there are certainly more important things to review
Time to redo Vlad’s campaign
Or it could be out earlier than November 14th.
Either way, chances are looking strong for tomorrow, so I think we should be keeping an eye on the stream.
LoTW was announced on December 15th, released January 26th. DotD trailer was released on August 5th, DLC was available 5 days later, yet the announcement was 4 months before during a stream. So there is a precedent for “normal” DLCs
edit: the announcement post of DotD was made on June 13th
I suppose there is nothing stopping them from releasing it some other, presumably earlier date.
tho if it’s released 2 weeks from tomorrow, that’s the 18th, the day after aoe mobile. that seems silly.
So the more space you give between dlc5 and aoe mobile, the closer you are to de anniversary.
IMO take the golden opportunity to release a large dlc on the anniversary, and take the very good opportunity of announcing it at RBW, even if it’s perhaps a week or two earlier than optimal.
That does seem most likely.
Also, the sheer volume of updates today has been MAD! In the last 23 hours there have been 22 updates. That’s bonkers. Something smells like “get it ready for tomorrow”. I’m wondering if they will do a show match.
