Next DLC - consideration

They might just completely drop AOE2 for AOE4 for what we know.

The games are developed by two separate teams.

Well, if Microsoft doesn’t give them funds anymore, Forgotten Empires will just simply stop supporting AOE2:DE.

@ArchSilversmith : As a Swiss myself, I can tell you that I would want more powerful options elsewhere first like Tufans, Kanem Bornu, Munhumutapa etc.

AOE2:DE is Microsoft’s more successful RTS esport at the moment and devs are releasing another DLC in two months. The whole venture seems profitable. So for the near future, it doesn’t look like Forgotten Empires will be disbanded.

I hope so but you never know what the corporate part thinks.

Isnt the whole re make of the AoE I-III serie not the big advertising campaign to promote AoE IV in the end? I wont be surprised if they want to push everyone to AoE IV in the end, so they stop working on I-III.

II is a cash cow. I honestly dont think they are leaving it until we get to the current civ limit at the very least

I disagree. AoE I-III is not an advertising campaign for AoEIV. They are cash cow products that they are trying to develop into esports for more profit. So far, only AoE I stumbled. I actually think that in the future, they will remaster Age of Mythology and I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a Star Wars Battlegrounds remaster as well.

I’m guessing next DLC would be Asia or Africa, in whichever order is cool. I don’t think America would be added.
And after they add African and Asian civs, after that i’m hoping for some Adriatic DLC with Serbia and Venice!

You have to admit name recognission of swiss pikes is something they would consider.

If it is by recognizement most of the UUs would have to be entirely reworked

Recognizement is overrated

No more European civs, at least for now

We need Fatamids, Saljuqs, Afghans, and Tibetans badly

That’s depends on Disney also, I’m not so sure they’d want a DE version. Maybe a GB 2, though I really doubt it’s going to happen, unfortunately

aoe1 had more sales then aoe3 did, and that’s just on steam, not including hte fact that aoe1 wasn’t on steam on initial release and was only available through the microsoft store. if anything stumbled so far its aoe3

this was shot down in the past.

Its just a feeling I have. I have not seen data for that but I feel a lot AoE2 players have apreciation for AoE1 while they dont really like AoE3. At the same time AoE3 has its own player base perhaps 10 times smaller than AoE2.

As a result I can imagine good number of AoE2 players got AoE1 DE and tryed if for couple of games and campaigns but dont play it regularly. Those however are probably more than AoE3 players who bought AoE3 DE and play it actively.

even the devs said that aoe3 had lots of mistakes and didn’t work out well.

Where do you get your sales figures from? Currently AoE3: DE averages about 3.500 players per day. AOE:DE just 500.

It was shot down in the past because we all assumed that EA had the exclusive rights to Star Wars but it turned out it did not. Disney is licensing it to whomever which makes sense.

Indeed it does depend from Disney too. Forgotten empires has the best bet for an RTS based Star Wars with the very successful and popular AOE2 formula. Forgotten Empires has to pursue this and see how Disney responds. Anyhow this is off topic.

that is only steam sales for the first year and a half aoe de wasn’t even on steam, so most the sales for it were on the microsoft store.
. aoe3 probably has a bigger multiplayer base, but its still tiny. aoe had more sales though.
