Feels a bit like we are going off-topic now (this thread should be about custom scenario design!), so only a short answer here: It cannot be ruled out that hero skins will be revised again. But I can’t say anything specific about that.
Do you have any messangers for the new dlc, some pepole want to know about it?
I have been playing for 18 years
I can’t tell heroes apart on DE
If I can’t tell the heroes apart NO ONE CAN
Sort of a sidebar question - but is there a resource or resources anyone can post that I could use to learn how to do scenarios or even just create eye candy? I see mentions of a number of programs and mods et cetera that people use to do this, but I haven’t the slightest idea of where to start.
Also, I think that this kind of stuff is a wonderful way to enjoy the game in a way that isn’t all about ranking and wins/losses. I’m just not the type that wants to do PvP all the time but I really enjoy AoE and I see this as being a new way to be part of the entire world.
Cheers all!
http://aok.heavengames.com/ is the biggest aoe fan site, focussing on modding and scenario design for the most part.
Thank you I appreciate your help.
Hi all! Thank you for your votes. Overwhelming support for a scenario design competition here.
I’ll set up a separate clean thread for this running competition, along with the rules! Stay tuned.
Have a great day
i have to be honest, i can’t unsee that strategically placed petard in your village at the original post, which bring me to a question, can you be inspired?
of course not by other contenders though
LOL what about the Petard? He’s an ale delivery man, unloading barrels of ale for an upcoming feast the village folk are about to celebrate.
ya i know, every time that i make a scenario he crosses my mind, i just have to make sure he doesn’t explode!
i was asking if we could use elements from other scenarios
Yes, thats the point of the competition. To learn from the best designers and learn new tricks for map design. But of course when submitting a screenshot, you should only submit your own creation.
are you going to link the new thread to this one?
Hi Bassi, played your wonderful campaign! Much enjoyable. Would love to see you trying your hand at a Mongol campaign set in China, maybe with rivers, forests and river battles, and taking heavily walled cities like Xianyang.
Chances are not too bad, since the rich history of the Mongols is what I am very much interested in.
After covering the rise and fall of the Golden Horde in two campaigns and making one that takes place in the (ruins of the) Chagatai Khanate (The Rise of Tamerlane … perhaps more to come
), focussing on the other Mongol states is clearly an option. But as you can imagine, before the actual design work can begin, a lot of research has to be done. Making campaigns is very time-consuming if you want to achieve remarkable results!
I think there are a number of Chinese members here. They could offer some ideas perhaps.
I have all the source material I need, that is not the problem
Anything on the fall of the Ming dynasty?
I know nothing about campaign / scenario design, but I can imagine the amount of work. Are there people who do this work in small teams? I can well imagine the issues that might cause, but simultaneously I can see a lot of benefits as well. Just curious. Thanks for the work that you have done and for your significant contributions to the community at large.
There used to be teams back in the day such as the “scn punk” team which Mark Stoker was part of (designer of the legendary “Tamerlane - Prince of Destruction” campaign), but that was 15-20 years ago. Nowadays, there are rather loose groups, but I don’t know of any custom design team out there that is still active.
@BassiAoC You’re a one-man scenario churning machine sir!
Was actually hoping to tap your insights on how to make good rivers in AOE2:DE with the layering feature, and the plethora of new graphic foliage etc. I’ll message you separately?
