Pre-order Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition, available this November 14!

This is a known issue. Unfortunately it happens to very few people. You will be able to purchase the game with the discount after the coupon date by purchasing the AoE II HD + DE Bundle (since you own HD you will the discounted DE this way.)

Is the email on your forums account the same as the email on your gamertag?

I cant buy any of the bundles or just the game for my account. When I will be able to buy the game? Just after the release? Will the discount be maintained?

Yes, the discount will remain available via the bundle, youā€™re not missing out on anything.

I can pick the bundle and see the discount, but it still says I already own AOEII:DE because I am in the beta. Does this mean that if I purchase the discounted bundle, I wonā€™t get AOEII:DE because it thinks I already own it, even though I am just in the beta? Or can I just buy the discounted bundle and will get AOEII:DE once it launches too?

I bought the pack and paid 15ā‚¬ for the AOE:DE, the pack doesnā€™t give you AOE2 DE if it shows you already own the game.

The bundle wonā€™t work while youā€™re in the beta (because it thinks you own the game already), but you can buy the bundle with discount after the beta ends (which will be on Nov 11)

any news on the problem for beta insiders? i cant buy the game and if i wait till 14 of nov i will miss the discount D:

The beta ends on the 11th at which point you will be able to pre-purchase the game. Also, the discount can still be obtained after the 14th by using the ā€œComplete my purchaseā€ selection in the AoE II (2013) and AoE II DE bundle.

@GMEvangelos The beta forum has now been closed.

Iā€™m one of the users that was part of the beta and pre-ordered the AoE:DE + AoE2:DE bundle. I paid 14.99 euro and thought this included both as I already own the Microsoft RTS collection. As it turns out this was the price for only AoE:DE and I didnā€™t actually get AoE2:DE. I held off on asking for a refund based on your post here: Pre-order Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition, available this November 14!

Now that itā€™s clear that it will actually cost me 30 euro to get both Iā€™d like to get a refund for the bundle and just get AoE2:DE at 14.99 as thatā€™s the game that actually interests me. Steam is rejecting my refund request because itā€™s been too long since I bought it. Can you help me out?

@ScHAmPiBE - $30 is the correct price for the bundle. Now that you own AoE: DE, you should see the bundle for only $15 for AoE 2: DE since you already own AoE: DE.

If youā€™d like a refund, you must follow the refund process through Steam to collect.

Thanks for the response @JexBall. The problem is that theyā€™re rejecting my refund request.

I mean i can see why they reject itā€¦ you only bought AOE:DE which is clearly show in bundle as it skips AOE2:DE because you had it (for beta) This is normal behavior of bundles. And now i assume you have +2 hours played aoe:de so they reject it. Basically steam support only looks that you have bought just aoe:de and becaues you donā€™t meet requirements to refund that one game they refuse.

I think thatā€™s reasonable of Steam, because you purchased the AOE DE bundle, then delayed your refund and probably also played AOE DE a while. If you are an European citizen you should have requested your refund within 14 days without opening the package and using the product.

Furthermore it was also known that current owners of AOE II 2013 HD edition joining the beta couldnā€™t pre-order until 12th of November. These messages were posted on August 23rd.

And:

The only thing I could agree on in this case is the fact that Steam should really make their cumulative pricing more clear or make customers immediately pay the full price of bundles.

And you probably did buy the AOE DE editions because you want to own the whole MS DE RTS collection. Itā€™s still a bargain, 30 euro for two fine AOE games. And now you are entitled to buy upcoming AOE III DE with discount on steam as MS DE RTS collection owner.

I understand why Steam has their policy, but it seems to me that this is kind of a corner case as the access to AoE2:DE was retracted after the 2 weeks had passed already. I had bought the bundle on August 21st. I saw that indeed the store detected that I had AoE2:DE already (because of the beta). So I came to this very post and saw that other people had the same problem. I also saw the post asking us to hold off on the refund requests:

And I also posted I would hold off on the 21st:

Now I feel stupid having had the patience to hold off and trust the devs to fix it.

My main interest was AoE2:DE. But I saw the price for the bundle and thought it was a nice deal. Iā€™m not a Steam expert and to me it wasnā€™t very clear that this was the price without AoE2:DE thatā€™s why I came here. I only found out about the 2 weeks and the 2 hours now, as Iā€™ve never asked for a refund before. Full transparency: I tried out AoE:DE and played it for 2,5 hours, not knowing that I was going to need to ask a refund for it. I also owned the Collectors Edition (back when games were still on CD - gosh Iā€™m old) and I donā€™t really feel like playing AoE anymore. I played AoE II AoK and AoC much more than the AoE Gold edition back then too.

Anyways, Iā€™ll stop ranting. Iā€™m a bit disappointed that this is the end result but it is what it is. Itā€™ll teach me for pre-ordering something.

Understandable. And you are not alone it seems. A lot of people donā€™t read the transcript of what they purchased at Steam and though that they had bought the whole DE bundle for just 15 euro. Steam could or maybe should have made that more clear at the stage of initial purchase. It does look clear to me at the moment. I bought both DE versions at MS store without discount btw.

Just to support the developers as much as possible. They deserve the credits for bringing this back.

Sorry to hear that. The bundle has always been priced at $30 for both games ($15 each) since it was posted. The only thing that happened is due to not being able to pre-purchase 2, you showed as already owning that, so you didnā€™t ever purchase it. It was not retracted from your account, you just never owned it to begin with. Technically there was no need for you to refund to receive this discounted price at a later date since you could use the ā€œcomplete your collectionā€ in the bundle to still receive the discounted price on AoE 2 DE.

I understand that this does not cover the fact that youā€™d have rather bought 2 over 1, but at this time there is not anything we can do to trade that out for you as all refunds are handled through Steam. It is very important to watch what you are buying/paying for as you order items in order to clear confusion.
