Proposal balance change for August patch

Mass LC hold their own vs Xbows. While not wasting one coin of gold. Shotels are helpless. And drain the gold-dependent Ethiopians of precious gold, which is usually and rightfully only for Arbs and Siege.

Considering the number of bugs this patch introduced the August patch should only be ā€œhey, we fixed all the bugs, see ya in septemberā€

mass LC is not a thing in castle age, they take half a minute to produce and 80 food is more brutal than the gold cost in castle age. and a 4-5 pikes and the xbows easily deal with LC

I like how this thread already has 163 posts of complaints of the balance. I really didnt know players can understand all changes that quickly and just know what needs to be changed…

Well now you know… !

Welcome to the AoE2 community, enjoy your staying

well most of them are just back and forth between people with opposing views on a subject, so…

no one goes mass LC in castle age because you can’t sustain vills and light cavs production at the same time, especially in early castle. on top of that, going for light severely slow your imp. discussing how good mass light cav is against xbow is pretty pointless tbh

edit: especially if you are talking about eth. the only reason to go LC with them is if the opponent is going full monks, but even then theur xbow should be better.

Exactly. They go Knights in Castle Age, As very clearly I stated. But still not shotels.

what about eagles? Ethiopians always go shotels when against meso

Ethiopians going what?
Ethiopians go for a a lot of things, but sure as death they don’t go for any form of cavarly.

Shotels are made for raiding or attacking something squishy/with low hp thanks to their mobility and high damage. They are excellent to snipe siege or against eagles, for example, but they are not designed to be the bulk of an ethiopian army, which should always be archers and/or siege and halbs as meat shield.

Shotels have a role, they are excellent at it and absolutely fine

Shotels kill Aztec and Incan EEW-s, but they can’t kill Mayans

and they have to pay for that in imp, you can still outproduce Mayan Eagles

i just ran a test and the shotels won.
24 damage - 3 armor = 21 damage a strike.
5 hits to kill a mayan elite eagle.
13-3 = 10 damage a hit.
5 hits to kill.
it all comes dwon to who attacks first.

and shotels are cheaper.

As far as I remember elite shotels still kill mayans’ eagles even if they are not as reliable as against incas’ or aztecs’ eagles

he who hits first wins basically.

shotels also have a lower attack delay, so should almost always hit first unless they’re bugging out or something(similar to the 2HS vs champs, 2HS hit first, as i was recently reminded on)

porto and italians both have 40g HC.

i havent used porto too much since the change, but their imperial age seems a lot more powerful (cheap arq HC, BBC, cavaliers), imo the 5% seems to have helped quite a bit, im not sure if its also because its round numbers, with 15% porto units might have actually had costs rounded up, so maybe we saved even more than 5%.

cavaliers that cost the same as camels is also nice, screw you ethiopia!

Shotels have a role but are too overpriced especially in gold, to be able to finction effectively in those real situations.

Again, your opinion. They are fine, especially when you take in account the fact they are the UU of a really strong civ

I’d reduce maybe 5 or 10 food but goldwise, they’re justified
