Goths should get them as they are the best stand in for saxons and sweden.
Really cool design. I was thinking about splitting Camel line into 2 as we have a bit too much imo - 13 civs. New line should have almost the same stat like Paladin vs Savar without the team bonus and maybe 1 less PA.
Foederati unit for romans byzantines goths huns.could be a unique upgrade replacing the hca or halberdier.

Myin cavalry
Replacement for knight line for south east asian civilization. A cheaper and faster but weaker version of knights. Manipur cavalry technology apply.
Lifida Horsemen
Replacement for knight line for south african civilization.
This unit is a “in between knight/steppe lancer” cavalry, meaning that they should have 1 range, slightly less armor and health than a knight but more than a lancer, and the same speed as a knight. Ethiopians could have “generic” units while Malians ones should be affected by the Farimba unique technology.
Royal guard
Shock infantry. This unit as a slightly slower eagle warrior, resistant to skirmishers (but not necessarily to archers) with a charging short-range melee attack where they throw their spear (similar to the fire lancer). They could be affected by the armor bonus of Malians and the Royal Heirs unique technology of Ethiopians.

Partisan line
I think is good for the burgundians and the bohemians and maybe for the Teutons ( German Peasants’ War in early XVI th century). For Poland, Lituania and Magyars maybe not.
Black Army paladin
Billhook
Norman Rider
I dislike this concept, I already proposed a concept of unique unit replacement for the knight line for the Sicilians here :
Gallowglass
Auxiliary
I don’t like much this unit. Visually they look good but in practice removing the minimum range of the skirmisher must be reserved for the Incas. Also I proposed the Angon thrower as a unique unit in the topic for the migration period DLC who can fit the same role.
Gendarme
Good concept but this need to automate the cost of wood. I think we can pay the cost of wood in two manner :
1 Select a single unit or a group of unit an click on a button to pay the cost.
2 Adding a button in the stable. Like the button in the mill who can replenish the farms, this button in the stable can replenish the gendarme. With this we can automate the process without more micromanaging.
Jinete
I dislike this concept because we have already the Genitour of the Berbers. Also as a french player The Genitour of the Berbers is already called Jinete in the french version, this will create confusion. I think it’s better to use the already existing Genitour unit making him a regional unit.
Dotd really needed to add a flailman/partisan unit to add more flavour to the hussite campaign.
Alternatively they could rename the Genitour to Zenata (or Zenata Rider since Zenata is a tribe).

The bactrian camel rider and the Ghazi line were already presented above I will not write more.
Camel lancer
Great bombard
Archer line split
Good concept for most european civilizations but I will be sad if the chinese who invent the crossbow didn’t a have access to this weapon.
Naqqara (camel drum support unit)
Sassanid Cataphract
Good concept but not at the cost of removing the savar fir the persian.
Having a knight line replacement is good but I think the current savar unique upgrade for the persian must be kept.
Konnik like elephant
Good concept to have a frightened elephant.
Also the bombard cannons in the game looks too small to me.
I mean they’re art and all and thats noce but do they fill holes in playability
I like all the ideas
just i hate aoe naming:
use crossbowman and late crossbowman and make arbalest different unit its different weapon.
And drop elite and replace it for late.
This is a terrible name.
This is hilarious. Does a late crossbowman have a longer training time, or 0 HP?!
nice one
but elite implies veterancy not gear upgrade in my opinion. Elite could he get after killing lets say 10 units. Total war series (rome and medieval) used (early and late units). English is not my main language so I my be wrong.
but this is off topic ill stop here.
To me, possibly but not necessarily. I’d interpret elite simply as implying soldiers who have been identified as being superior. That could be because they’re more experienced, but it could also be for other reasons, e.g. they’re more talented, have better training, they were born into a privileged background, etc. or some combination of reasons. And I think elite troops would be likely to have better equipment, even though it’s not the better equipment that makes them elite.
I agree it’s not always ideal, especially in contexts like elite Hussite wagon and elite organ gun, but I think it’s better than any alternative I’ve heard or thought of.
I find this surprising, because they’re made by a British company and presumably named by native English speakers. Looking on the Total War wiki, I see they have a unit called late Carthaginian hoplites, which to me really does sound like Carthaginian hoplites who have died.
Anyway, back on topic…
I appreciate the effort, but to me, these are just kitbashed sprites rather than genuine concepts. There’s a little effort to explain and justify their gameplay roles in the commentary, but really not much.
Also Ghazi → Sipahi → Savar is sort of like if the knight line was called Crusader → Hussar → Clibanarius.
Let’s make Samurai a regional unit for Japan and Iberia. ![]()
I agree. I swear people put more love to the art than a brilliant idea. None of those units seem necessary
He arrived late to the battle…
I have proposed flatbowman-line for american civs. But many believed that unit recognition was more important. It is wierd that American civs using crossbow.
To add to this, I’d prefer Ghazi → Timarli → Kapikulu, but I’m still quite unsatisfied with this naming since Ghazi are supposed to be raiders so they’re either light infantry or light cavalry which fit the hussar line better than the knight line.
