Purely for fun speculation on future civ additions for AOE2 DE

Most of these civs fit, suit much better to a new game- Age of beggars, Bums and Slaves. Few civs fit to Aoe 3, after 1500 AD. See the World map between 400 AD-1400 AD.

Not for every unit for every civ but at least different skins for different regions so not every unit is European, its a painful shortcoming in the original game.

Also if you do do the unique skins and architecture can you also release it as a seperate mod without the other modifications?

Not sure what you mean or which civ suggestions you are referring to. All 4 of the ones I mentioned are medieval civs.

I suggest they put the Zulu in stead -
a civ that stays in the Dark and Feudal age only and cannot build stone buildings apart from the TC , villagers cost 10food only and are created 33 % faster but 1/2 of them die from malaria 20s. after created from the TC, archers cost -30 gold but have a chance to die from hunger / 33 percent chance for every second min /

Here’s my idea for Civilizations. Each Architecture Set/Region will have 4 civilizations. All these empires coexisted on 1400s.

Middle Eastern:
Mamluks (Saracens)
Persia (Persians)
Ottomans (Turks)
Morocco (Berber)

Africans:
Mali (Malians)
Ethiopia (Ethiopians)
Kongo (New)
Songhai (New)

Indians:
Delhi (Indians)
Mewar (New)
Vijayanagar (New)
Orissa (New)

South-East Asians:
Khmer (Khmer)
Ava (Burmese)
Majapahit (Malay)
Ayutthaya (New)

East Asians:
Ming (Chinese)
Tokugawa (Japanese)
Korea (Koreans)
Dai Viet (Vietnamese)

Central Asians:
Altan-Ord (Mongols)
Timurid (Tatars)
Uzbek (Cumans)
Oirat (Huns)

Mesoamericans:
Aztec (Aztec)
Inca (Inca)
Yucatan (Mayan)
Iroquois (New)

West European:
Scotland (Celts)
England (Britons)
France (Franks)
Burgundy (New)

Central European:
Bohemia (Goth)
Teutonic-Order (Teutons)
Sweden (Vikings)
Poland (Magyar)

Eastern European:
Muscovy (Slavs)
Lithuania (Lithuanian)
Serbia (Bulgarian)
Hungary (New)

Mediterranean:
Papal State (Italians)
Castile (Spanish)
Portugal (Portuguese)
Byzantium (Byzantine)

That may be true, but the game is way too complex if units have ~10 different graphical versions.
And I cant/wont make my own sprites.

yeah.     :grinning:

Why is the AOE community so averse to having unique skins. You guys never played Wargame Red Dragon? Every single nation literally has not only unique skins but completely unique units with unique abilities stats and the game is great fun.

This isn’t WRD, this is aoe2 which has been around for 3x as long, so has its own unique style which players are familiar with an prefer not to deviate from. Its also easier for new players if the same unit looks the same for every civ. Buildings are larger so easier to work out what they are even if they are graphically very different.

Tbh I think new players would actually be much more inclined to play the game if some of these things were changed. The original reason the game had same unit skins was due to time and resource restriction and it kinda just stuck. It wasn’t a “design” decision. Whether or not it would make the game too complicated is a matter of opinion. I personally think the game will be fine if the units are done well and are recognisable. I am sure people have the capacity to recognise a few different unit skins after enough exposure. As it stands it makes zero sense for Aztec infantry to carry European longswords and wear European style plate armour.

Very true. More people should realize that the skins are all too Eurocentric.

Replace Chimu with Tamils or Kongolese, and it would be a great last expansion.

A lot of people would be happy.

Though Chimu would placate those insisting on another American civ. At least the Chimu can have a feud /storyline with the Inca in their vicinity.

Magyar = Hungary.

Poland = New. Perhaps call them Wends and mix the Kingdom of Bohemia and Poland.

Two Unique Units:

  1. Hussite Wagon = fires 1 arrow, can be garrisoned with archers to fire up to five arrows. moveable tower in essence.
  2. Upgrade to Imperial Hussar = similar to how Heavy Camel Riders upgrade to Imperial Camels for Indians.

I know, I meant to say I will replace the civilization in bracket with the new one built upon its tech tree.

Greetings, I wanted to comment that I find the idea of the ChimĂș civilization very interesting. The attached image is from Russian artist Alexander Staroverov (2009), the drawing is Moche style and a Chimu-Inca war battle is shown. It is historically correct and also shows the difference and ideological warfare of the Incas (Sons of the sun) and the Chimu (Sons of the Moon)

  1. Polish
  2. Tamils
  3. Jurchens/Manchu
  4. Prussian
  5. Champa (w/th rattan archers)
    Change:
Initial I just think devs should recreate Viet unique unit should be infantry/cavalry. We Vietnamese are very weak known in archery, but had recorded well infantry/cavalry/gunpowder in both Chinese and Vietnamese books.
  • adding Viets masonry and architecture

There are a lot of such historical inaccuracies in the game

  • Indians relied more on infantry and elephants than camels (India is not a desert)
  • Chinese invented block printing and gunpowder yet they don’t get it.
  • Goths were well known to use cavalries, yet they are infantry spamming civilization.
  • Axe thrower and Woad Raider belong to dark ages and not from medieval era.
  • Why no Steppe Lancers for Mongols?
  • Mameluke didn’t ride camels.
  • If they changed Vietnamese to East Asian Architecture (North Vietnam) then why do they get Battle Elephants? Even their stable graphics does not contain elephant.
  • Why do the hussars WITH WINGS are applied to all civilizations?
  • From where are the projectiles from War Wagon coming from? Hwacha will be much more better for Koreans.
  • Persians should get Savaran or Hashashin as UU. Elephants are not native to Iran.
  • Gbeto throwing knife woman in MUSLIM african empire?

I don’t think AoE2 needs more civs to be honest, balancing and changing them would be ok though.

What comes to Vietnamese civ, it is close to needing a remake when compared to others. But when it comes to cavalry civs, that seems unreasonable direction knowing we’ve more than enough cavalry civs currently, when it comes to gunpowder civs there is only Turks, Portuguese and Spanish I think.
