ROMAE AD BELLUM - (RAW:E) Rome at War Expansion Concept

This great stuff! Thank you both @Mahazona @TheConqueror753. I will need to work on the bowman line more, don’t have any of the AoE skins currently ported over.

So do we do away with petard and BBC?

Will do Bowman, Improved Bowman, and Composite Bowman, put Xbow behind chemistry with potential rename of tech.

I think for now get rid of petard and bbc, not to mention bbt, and if the balance is off, especially for siege, then we work out a replacement for the bbc and add it back in. Do a direct switch of the HC graphics with Crossbows, maybe rename chemistry to Fire Arrows or something, and then do direct subs of the archer line with the new graphics and names. Badically nothing in the archery range changes functionally, just the names and appearance.

Oh yeah, and the new catapult trireme line will also need to be locked behind a tech, almost certainly chemistry, but that’s for balance. Alternatively, add a new tech at the dock to unlock it instead, if you want to do that I can make up some costs and research times.

For renaming we can first use the names used in aoe1 and later change accordingly.
I think it’s best if we can move these discussions to the discord so that the topic is not full.

Great call @Mahazona , ROMAE AD BELLUM
@TheConqueror753 have you joined the discord before. I have neglected it some, but these are great conversations so perhaps we can breath new life into it

I don’t use Discord, but I might think about it. Definitely no promises though.

AOE Catapult replacing trebuchet may be too powerful since it doesn’t require packing and unpacking…it could speed up the gameplay though. Looks beautiful in game.

In that case, it’s our bombard replacement as well. Maybe we could think about some heavy Siege Ballista or something as the treb as another option. Keep it for now, and we will have to see how it plays out.

Here is the first attempt at Full Animation of House Destruction… Saspan did a great job with this. Stil fine tuning the animation/details, so this is a WIP.

As part of my list, I’ve started working on some civ icons you could use. What do you think of the three I have currently? I’m fine to finish the icon list for my civs if you like these. I drew them all in Photoshop.
Athenians:
Athenians
Carthaginians:
Carthigians
Phoenicians:
Phoenicians 3
The only one I’m not totally sure on is the Phoenician one. I think the purple and gold is important, because the Phoenicians invented purple dye basically, and they were a very rich nation due to their trading proficiency, and then for the ship icon, I’ve spent a while trying to get a glass effect, to represent the Phoenician glassmaking as well. How does it look, should I alter it, or redesign?

I’m fine for most of the civ icons I think, but Thracians and Dacians are concerning me. They have potential emblems, but they are kind of close to a Swastika, so I’m not sure if I want to use those, but it’s proving difficult to find alternatives, although I can hopefully do it.

Maybe you will find some shields in the Rome Total War games

This is the Dacian civ icon from Rome total War, not sure if it’s historically accurate…

I know, I’m thinking I’ll use that for the Dacians, regardless of historical accuracy, and maybe use this for the Thracians:

Do you think that is ok, or do I try and look for something else?
Macedonians will be something like this:

Parthians might be this, and Persians will be the current Parthian icon:

I’ll do a more stylized and altered version of this for the Britons:

Judea will be like this, maybe with different colors and styles though:

I like those, Look good!
Need to find some appropriate themes (music) for these civilizations too. Let me if know you know of any on YouTube and I can create the Audio files for them.

Ok, I’ll try and finish all of those up, as well as my list eventually, but I think you’re kind of on your own for music, unless someone else has skills. I was thinking about it earlier, how you will need to find someone who can do that. I still have quite a bit to go on the civ list as, but I’m slowly getting there. I’ll release the lot once I have the civ icons like the ones I’ve done, and the full list of tech trees and leaders.

A question, why we got Roman Republic/Roman Empire as two seperate civ? Why not just call it Romans?

It’s cooler to do it like that. It also allows for different bonuses and tech trees. Also, if anyone wanted to make campaigns using this, like I have considered at times, I think having it split would be very helpful. I think it’s also just to justify having the different units in a way they can be viably included.

Personally I’m not too sure about this. 11
Feels like a bit too cheap copy paste. 11
I know we still don’t have the option to solve the civ number size yet but still prefer civ to be unique rather than same thing with same name. I know Roman history a bit. Seems like mod is going AOE1 period. For that, it is still a very much odd choice.
