ROMAE AD BELLUM - (RAW:E) Rome at War Expansion Concept

Could you make a gif version of this unit so we could see it walking, dying, etc?

Here is the unit walking in two sample directions. The timing is slower than in game, but that is more my novelty of making GIFS. I just got idle frames today so need to work on those still. At some point I probably should do this for all custom units and building destruction animations as a preview for folks.

@Erasmus11585 thank you for the feedback, but I like the colors for the “skirt” and the “crown” the way the are. I think it looks regal which was the intent with the unit.

You will notice the unit’s posture and position of arm is also fixed and wrapped through the flowing cape, this was intentional and is all meant to give the unit a sort of pomp and dignity.

How about when it is killed?

Can you  please ask the development team to look into fixing these modding issues as soon as possible.

It’s been months waiting for a patch to fix these problems.

It will be really helpful to us civilization modders.

The unit looks really nice but I think the shadows could use some polish.

@BassiAoC: pretty cool to have a Forgotten Empires Dev comment on your project. Thank you!

Thanks also for being part of the team that brought us AOE I and II DE. These games have been like a lifelong friend and given me many hours of joy and entertainment over the years

I hope the game expansion The Dawn of the Dukes for Age of Empires 2 Definitive Edition will be fine, when they come out at this summer. I am exited about possible new civilizations. The bohemians will certainly be a hot candidate.

@PeakHornet46539 IDES OF MARCH!! Death of Caesar!

3D Artist Sapsan008 really did a fantastic job with this unit, custom render with several iterations to capture the look and vision I had for the unit. This unit would not be possible without his talents.

This is the 5th unit he has created for me, and the 2nd completely custom unit from concept to end product.

Roman Military Unit Showcase: - All Units showcased have already been released. Age of Empires - Mods - Roman Antiquity Mod 3 of 5 (UHD Support only)
Below descriptions are quotes from Wikipedia

The Praetorian Guard (Latin: cohortes praetoriae ) was an elite unit of the Imperial Roman army whose members served as personal bodyguards and intelligence for Roman emperors. During the era of the Roman Republic, the Praetorians served as a small escort force for high-ranking officials such as senators or provincial governors like procurators, and also serving as bodyguards for high-ranking officers within the Roman legions. With the republic’s transition into the Roman Empire, however, the first emperor, Augustus, reformed the Guard as his personal security detail. Although they continued to serve in this capacity for roughly three centuries, the Guard became notable for its intrigue and interference in Roman politics, to the point of overthrowing emperors and proclaiming their successors. In 312, the Guard was disbanded by Constantine the Great, as he oversaw the destruction of their barracks at the Castra Praetoria.[1]

The Roman legionary (in Latin legionarius , plural legionarii ) was a professional heavy infantryman of the Roman army after the Marian reforms. These soldiers would conquer and defend the territories of ancient Rome during the late Republic and Principate eras, alongside auxiliary and cavalry detachments. At its height, Roman legionaries were viewed as the foremost fighting force in the Roman world, with commentators such as Vegetius praising their fighting effectiveness centuries after the classical Roman legionary disappeared.[1]

Where can we download these units?

@PeakHornet46539 these units are all part of file 3 of 5 which includes the DAT file to allow these to work in game.

Caesar unit, new Temple, and alternate attack image for Pilum throw will be incorporated into updated release of the Mod and renamed “Romae ad Bellum”, I am still testing and then will need to break down into component files due to size limitation for upload. I really wish the size of the file could be increased.

Concept Persian Unit for updated release of Romae ad Bellum (Target June/July):
Below images are being used as references to inform design.

This will be a Unique unit for Persians. During this time the Persians would be called Parthians.
Persians where the most organized and persistent rival to Roman Empire militarily. Excited to bring this civilization to life! They will use architectural style of Babylonians from AOE with a mix of existing AOE 2 assets.

Description from Wiki

The Parthian Empire (/ˈpɑːrθiən/), also known as the Arsacid Empire (/ˈɑːrsəsɪd/),[10] was a major Iranian political and cultural power in ancient Iran from 247 BC to 224 AD.[11] Its latter name comes from its founder, Arsaces I,[12] who led the Parni tribe in conquering the region of Parthia[13] in Iran’s northeast, then a satrapy (province) under Andragoras, in rebellion against the Seleucid Empire. Mithridates I (r. c. 171–132 BC) greatly expanded the empire by seizing Media and Mesopotamia from the Seleucids. At its height, the Parthian Empire stretched from the northern reaches of the Euphrates, in what is now central-eastern Turkey, to present-day Afghanistan and western Pakistan. The empire, located on the Silk Road trade route between the Roman Empire in the Mediterranean Basin and the Han dynasty of China, became a center of trade and commerce.

Parthians were a cavalry force with cavalry archers and catapracts right.the aoe cav archer fits nicely for a parthian archer.
Ref pics look nice tho for the spear unit.

Yes, your are right @Mahazona . I think cataphracts and cavalry archers should be a heavy focus for the civ. I will look into the cavalry archer from AOE. That’s a great suggestion, thank you!

Persians or Magyars might be a good civi to use for parthians.if you have a list of planned civilizations post it here.

Yes, Persians will be the civ I replace with Parthians. So far my thought on civs are as follows:

  • Roman Republic - replaces Italians

  • Roman Empire - replaces Byzantines

  • Greeks - replaces Spanish

  • Parthians - replaces Persians

  • Egyptians - replaces Ethiopians

  • Carthaginians will mirror Roman Architecture set (so replace another Medi Civ)

  • Celts, Goths, Huns, and Slavs Feudal age will represent various Barbarian Tribes
