You don’t need ModDB. Go to the ingame mod manager, search for “Rome at War”. Download “Rome at War Datamod (Official Version)”, “Rome at War Graphics Part 1 of 2 (Official Datamod also required)”, and “Rome at War Graphics Part 2 of 2 (Official Datamod also required)”. Restart the game. Select the datamod in a lobby. If you use enhanced graphics, you need to install the five enhanced graphics mod packs in addition to the two regular ones.

I meant, where can I see how the mod is developing: what balance is changing, new models may appear, etc.

On Discord. Which you don’t have. But ModDB isn’t updated anymore, everything is in the Discord instead.

I’ve occasionally gotten that in the past, have you tried just clicking OK and then trying again? If that doesn’t work, I may need to reupload it. Also check that you’ve updated the datamod (I recommend uninstalling and reinstalling it to be sure).

i was reinstall it 2 times. The first time work finest (for the first time i finish a complete game!), but again the same problem. Now i try my second time without problem for my first game but my future is uncertain :c

Problem in the text archives of the Rome at War Data Mod, makes it Umplayable*


The same thing happens to me. “Error Loading Data Mod” appears, tested both in the version downloaded by Subscription and in the version downloaded from www.moddb.com ( Romae ad Bellum), in the “English” version.


Curiously, I am a Spanish speaker (Hispanohablante), and I normally use the South American Spanish version of the Game, and there "The Mod Runs, BUT, IT DOESN’T RUN THE TEXT CHANGES", because it does not recognize it. Unique units do not have their name changed by the ones they replace, the technology tree only changes the images but not the text. In fact, a warning appears that the MOD does not recognize other languages, key 80000…


With that problem, although you can try the mod in SPANISH (and I suppose in other languages, except English), you are lost and do not understand well what the units do, because all the new technologies and unique units do not have the text changed correctly and one doesn’t really know its bonuses, flaws, or what the Castle’s unique technologies make.

For this reason, seeing that the text files were only in English, I tried the game in English, and I got the error i post in the first paragraph. I want to assume that the BUG is in the “Text” file of one of the units or technologies. Some change in the last DLC that came out of Victor and Vanquished or the extra units must have affected the use of this MOD.

At the moment, the only solution I can find is in another mod called “Unofficial Rome at War DataMod”, which at least allows you to test the mod in English with the correct names (except the name of the Civs), although the enemy AI It does not recognize its Artificial Intelligence and does not even know how to advance in age, which really prevents you from playing it alone.

Please FIX IT because the project looked interesting, and now practically no one can play it, which is a big shame.


Sorry if I bump this. I haven’t followed the progress of this mod since the Return Of Rome Update. It’s a bit hassle for players to keep updating the mod everytime a new DLC arrives, and it’s even waaay more work for the modders involved to update and optimizing the mod according to the DLC changes. It’s understandable if the progress is slow. Good thing, I enjoyed this mod, and I had the most fun time playing it. I moved from playing AOE2 for quite some time, and recently I got back. Battle Of Greece DLC got me hooked. And it’s gameplay is similar to this mod, especially the Docks and Shipyard mechanic. Until I found out that you guys are involved in the DLC! Congratulations! I felt like a spoiled kid! It’s safe to say that this mod is “partially” official. And the fact that the new civs are playable in Skirmish is astounding. Questions arise in my mind,
-What are you guys doing now? Current project?
-What would be your next projects?
-Is this mod abandoned?
-Would there be more ancient/antique civs for “Chronicles” series?
-My biggest expectation, would you guys make a whole new game with AOE2 engine, but with your Antiquity Era Civs, and implementing your new ideas? (like new gameplay aspects)
