Several simple requests of must-have things for AoE 2

In my words - numerous people were saying this event is a disaster, many demanded it to be stopped, some even unsubscribed from AoE news.

Just go and check, I explained where. No need to doubt in my words when physical proof exists.

about 20 000 people play this game each day, even if there are 1000 negative comments that’s not ‘most people’

What is the African monk hero? Any images in game?

And what exactly was their reasoning for it? Especially since, you know, it was just cosmetic skins.

Since you considered yourself as one of the complainers then I’m sure you can summarize for everyone’s convenience here. I read the comments there so I’m looking forward for your personal insight here now, too.

What made it a disaster? Why did people demand it to be stopped (but not events overall?), and so on.

Because the audiences of these two games practically do not overlap, the games are designed for different ages, for fans of different styles and genres, they absolutely do not fit together stylistically, this was an obvious mistake of the marketers, this event is of interest to almost no one, no one even wanted to see it in news, especially in such quantities (news followed every day) and it generally insulted the intelligence and sense of taste of AoE players.

At this point, I propose to finish the off-topic and return to what I really propose. Instead of wasting resources on meaningless and unnecessary events that, at least in some cases, only scare away players and lower trust ratings, they can simply direct development resources to creating skins for units in order to restore and diversify historical accuracy.

Do you think players who play Minecraft do not play AoE2? Do you think the reverse is not true? It’s mostly why these cross-genre promotions happen. I don’t know if there was any promotion on Minecraft’s end as well for AoE2, but this isn’t really a problem nor something to get hyperbolically angry about (f.e. Steam comments). This also doesn’t seem relevant to the Women in History events you mentioned as disastrous as well. What made that event disastrous?

How do relatively light-hearted and mostly silly events scare away players and/or lower trust ratings?

And I’m rather sure that the event skins that we get are probably on lower priority in development focus than anything more substantial that they’re likely also working on. I don’t think we’re dealing with a case where the devs working on models/skins for units (if they are the same department/devs that work on both) can only work on one task at a time.

Are you arguing with me? Or are you arguing with the people who have said their word?

Hello there, I play both. I also play games like Smash Bros, Sonic, and Persona, so I’m well-versed in many different communities and totally different styles of games. Don’t assume that people don’t play different types of games and only ever stick to one type. We’re not monoliths. We can have interest in totally different genres even within the same medium.

I have a list of “nice to have” ( Changes NOT Needed but that would make sense ) so I agree with you.

I believe most players have their preferences and expectations, however, there is always someone else that likes the opposite, that is why I don’t ask for big changes, but hope that some of the items on the list may be implemented eventually as a secondary option… more important things need fixing first…like bugs and graphics…

Well if you read the actual post you’d see that I’m addressing you and things you’ve said, not what people have said.

In case of the Minecraft event, I’ve actually seen players from Minecraft posting on AoE 2’s subreddit that they discovered this game through the event.

Edit as I actually want to provide evidence - that’s a player asking for advice who got into strategy games with Minecraft Legends and found out about AoE 2 with the Minecraft event:

I’m calling that the Smash Bros Effect. Many Minecraft players were introduced to Smash Ultimate through Steve’s inclusion. Marketing through Minecraft crossovers is a real strategy.

I also have a list what needs to be added to must:

A) Ash. When it falls it damages units. Also slows down the movement speed when fallen

B) Art: Who doesn’t like some funky artwork in the medieval battlegrounds?

C) Tang: Ships get cought by it and immobilized for a short time.

D) Tea: To spice things up, some well assembled blends can be made. Who wouldn’t like to have vills that can collect as fast from hunt as mongols and as long as goths?

But I said what people said. So…

So you’re just deflecting now, why even make a thread when you’re not actually going to present any arguments?

I have long given all the arguments concerning the essence of the topic. But it long ago exhausted its sense and has gone into a terrible off-topic.

You really haven’t given any arguments, just stated it was a disaster with no reasoning. It’s fine if you have no reason for it, but you should then just state so, not be so exhausting as to give vague non-answers for several posts now.

Right now I have no reason to actually think your opinions should hold any weight - especially to call them ‘must haves’ - because you’re not explaining yourself at all. You brought up the event skins, so if you don’t want people to disagree with your opinion you can just not state that opinion at all.

FWIW ####### like ‘bull cart must not neigh like a horse’ and ‘transport ship is making noises of a chicken coop’ and whatnot are on the same level as ‘what’s the point of Minecraft skins in AoE2?’ to me. Or even weirder ‘Queen mod must not work in campaigns’ - because after all, if you don’t want it, then don’t use it. :person_shrugging:

The event was a disaster and I gave the only argument needed - go and read what people said, and I explained where it was. That is totally enough for a reasonable one.

However name of this topic is “Several simple requests of must-have things for AoE 2”. I given all arguments in the very first posts. Later on goes a nightmare off-topic.

Hehe, I’m reading it now, it’s so funny.

EDIT: oh my God, I think I’ve found you in the Steam discussions; are you Ocean Echo? Because I see an Ocean Echo making the same requests as you, like “Elephants must make real elephant sound (not dev blowing his nose)” and “Unit acknowledgements must not repeat kwa-kwa-kwa”.
