I love it tbh when I opened AOE III DE and saw that, I just thought âomg this looks brilliant!â

Obviously, you let crew and siege weapons die separatly. XD
Insted of trowing torch, let the unit cicle the canon and kill engineer.
Cannon will be neutral after engineer death.
I was more hoping to see a special animation that show a military units that rig the canon to self explode.
Actualy, age of empire team need to learn and see how to break a real canon, to put it in game.
I think that the canon would more crack then blow up.
For the wooden siege weapons, trowing a torch is a good idea.
The only problem is that units need to trow a thousen torch to burn it down.
Maybe let the siege weapon catch fire after the first torch, allowing units to figth back enemy, has their siege units burn faster.
Maybe allow units to stop fire whit special animation.
The more advance is the fire, the more units it is need to put out fire.
For the hill animation of siege weapon, maybe modify land to level to the siege weapon, it would be more realistic, insted of having hovering units.
If the siege enginear and siege units are separate units and set a angle that they canât climb, you will not have hovering units problem any more. XD
Siege enginear actualy build road to let siege weapon up hill or on montain, for weapon range advantage.
Siege without crews and the general art style are deal breaker for me, too.

I would find it very nice for the atmosphere of the game if siege weapons could get a crew. Both when pushing the weapons and when operating them. In Age of Empires 3 this was already implemented well, then removed again in part 4. I think thatâs a pity, because it just looks weird when the equipment moves through the landscape by ghost hand.
Siege crews should be cosmetic DLC for $1.99 or whatever, if it is ever made. Personally, donât want or need it in the base game. And by charging for it, they can recoup some of the resources spent making it happen to satisfy a handful of players; resources that would otherwise be spent making more globally appreciated/desired updates

I do not buy any cosmetic dlc, it is basicaly garbage and will make me lose interess of the game. ( unless it is a Starcraft game, where there is only 3 unique race that we play over and over again)
Siege enginear need to be a game mecanic, not just a cool art look.
Siege enginear and the weapon are two distinct unit that work in combinaison, but become basicaly useless if separated.
The canon can survive to a cavalery charge, but it canât move or fire on its own.
The siege enginear canât survive to a cavalery charge on its own, but he can use the canon to snipe the cavalery (no horse can survive to a conon ball, even les then men on the horse)
Also, the siege enginear can use the canon whit out blowing it up, but not the normal units.
The ony way to destroy canon, is to blow it up whit excess of gun powder or to hit it whit a canon ball, to make the canon crack.
You can always recycle canon, to make a few guns out of it.
Once the canon is crack, the canon chamber canât have enouf presure cumulation to move canon ball and could blow up in the enginear face.
These 3 comments basically sum up the demographicsâŠ
A hard liner against siege crew
A hard liner who thinks siege should be mutli unit items
And someone that wants the aesthetic of crew to create deeper immersion
Of course Iâm biased and support option 3. Because it worked for aoe3. It worked for many other games
Option 2 will never happen in an aoe type game due to being overly complex and fiddly in the higher speed /micro intensive battles
And option 1 is simply wanting to stick with status quo. If we had had siege crew from the start they wouldâve been fine with it
is this true? I wonder⊠people might accept the lack of crew, but I doubt a majority of the actual player base would say no to siege crew .

PS: What happens when expensive DLC known as âan expansion packâ comes out? Still garbage? Why is $24.99 DLC not garbage and $1.99 DLC is? Youâve just bought into the stigma/stereotype against âDLCâ and assumed it is bad in 100% of cases, is all. Yet you will buy a $24.99+ DLC expansion pack if one ever comes out, I guarantee it

RTS games that I still play recently. It bothers me that age of empires 4 released in 2021 is worse on this point than these games.
Cosmetic dlc?..
I donât want DLC for a primary feature. A free option or an official mod (like the age of empires 2 event mods) would be welcome.

You say that option 2 would never happen in an AoE game, but you know what, itâs already there. Go look at the War Elephants in AoE IV right now. They are crewed. The âdriver/riderâ does nothing but look pretty but behind him there is either an archer or a pikeman with separate attack stats.
You canât kill the individual riders but if you kill the elephant all 3 units die at the same time.
Why canât something like that be done for siege? Have 2 or 3 units as crew with pikes or swords and some light damage (it can even compensate for minimum range and explains most siege taking 3 population) but the siege unit behaves as one entity if killed. I would be fine with that. Come on devs!

It would massively increase readability. The only indication of what team a siege unit belongs to is a little accent of paint. The rest of the unit is just a generic wooden frame. If there were crews with properly coloured uniforms this would be much more readable at a glance.
