Because they all are within standard of the basic game mode. Aside from, perhaps, fortress which is tailored for regicide, and you have seen me talk about that.

No. They arent. Arena is literally no aggression until castle age and gives you 1200 resources worth of stone walls. Regardless if your civ build them or not.
Fortress adds even more, and Budapest doubles everything.

So no. They arent standard start. By your own words standard start is 3 vills 1 tc 1 scout.

Fortress adds more villagers as well as a castle.

I’m unfamiliar with budapest, if it doubles everything then it’s as bad as when mega random doubles the town center + vills - which I most certainly am against.
And you’ve seen me talk against that as well.

And arena adds walls.
Your argument was standard start is 1 tc. 3 vills. 1 scout.

Thus by your logic all those maps (and others) are non standard start.

Walls is a grey area and doesn’t push the game mode out of its own boundaries, and neither does the towers in fortress.

Build a TC. Age up to Feudal. Create a scout. Pretend the game just started. Done, problem solved!

In terms of nomad balance, I feel animal scouts would be a fair addition while not pushing players to lame with normal scouts.

Good news. Sheep scouting is completely standard on nomad.

That is a different conversation of balance that should be had, I feel that it is a conversation that another thread is handling - until it is proven as a bad balance issue, it should remain as part of the standard.

And seeing as nomad isn’t a balance issue, then it should remain part of the standard random map.

But again. Funny how your own rules suddenly don’t matter when it’s an inconvenience?

Nomad being mixed with the basic standard queue is a question of should multiple game modes be handled by one elo and one queue.

Show me one confirmed dev source that says nomad is a different game mode in age 2.

yeah, except for those maps where you start with multiple TCs, or with Walls, Pallisades, Houses/Tents, or a bunch of other things. you are picking one of them arbitrarily to ostracize

Walls are debatable, multiple town centers or double villagers on the other hand push it too far unless, for one reason or another, it’s a balanced civ bonus.

We’re mainly talking about whether such maps should be kept in the ranked queue or not - the maps are very much welcome to exist.

Again I just love rhe irony of your rules all of a sudden having Grey areas for walls, rowers, castles, etc.

And clearly we know the playerbase thinks so

If we go by the regular map vote, nomad wins up until 800-1000 votes within a margin, followed by regularly being dropped by a rock leading up to 1400 voters actually voting. Nomad is popular, particularly with the most active forum users, but it is possible that it is not wanted in the standard queue even if it is popular and the masses may think the same way.

As for my ‘grey areas’ regarding walls towers and castles, that is due to possible balance concerns - whether or they remain part of the standard is up to the devs and their balance sense as well as to the forums to discuss it and perhaps make it clearer for them.

I believe they shall remain until proven otherwise.

You want to talk about balancing impact of different maps?

Imagine giving a civ like burgundians cuma s and others a bunch of walls so they can Turtle and free boom with their insane eco.
Imagine giving Turks, berbers, Mongols, spanish and mayans a free castle so they can start pumping out their insane uu once they hit castle.

In votes almost two years old…if nomad isn’t popular please explain the play rate
