Nomad is popular, and the play rate is because it is popular and it can be played so very often in the team ranked matches due to only one ban available for many and multiple nomad maps as well as mega random often being in that queue as well as there being a healthy nomad base even in 1 vs 1 that will play each other and anyone who doesn’t ban it and gets it because they don’t expect anyone else to have it unbanned so they use their ban in more useful areas rather than on insta ban separate game modes that belong in different queues/ranked lobbies/elo.
i went through the last 6 months of map votes (August 10 to Feb 8, cant find a thread for end of December, but maybe the map rotation was longer because of christmas?) results for nomad start maps:
Nomad won all 3 times it was up for election
Land Nomad won 1, lost 1
african clearing won both of their elections
cant tell by the names if any of the other maps are nomad start. so there is no evidence for ‘dropped like a rock’
same for Nomad
His evidence is from 2020…
I went through a bunch of the map votes I could find - most with only 600-800 voters nomad wins, however you have to look for the ones with around 1400 voters to find more accurate results.
If nomad was so unpopular that 1400 people would vote it out, it wouldn’t have a high playrate. Just because it lost almost 2 years ago has zero bearing on today
1400 people aren’t voting it out, a larger portion of that 1400 certainly are. The first voters tend to be the ones that vote for nomad to remain leading up to 800+votes followed by the less active forum users that turn that trend upside down. The first 800ish are a mixture of both for and against with nomad on top, later numbers seem to go for nomad on the losing end by a much larger margin.
And my screenshots are from both 20’ and 21’
that’s purely conjecture. an alternative, equally made-up explanation is ‘people figured out what maps they like, so Nomad started winning more’
regardless: this feels like picking data because it suits your narrative
And it 100% is, however I’m picking it because I currently believe in it heavily, and while looking I didn’t see much if any data pointing otherwise.
if the whole data doesnt fit your narrative and you need to cherry-pick it so it does, it’s time to re-examine your narrative
I don’t believe I’ve cherry picked, I didn’t see any votes in 1 vs 1 where nomad wins at around 1400+ voters - I would love to see all of the map rotations so I can have the full picture, but searching for them doesn’t seem to be so cut and dry. The ones I did find were the ones I presented; it will require more searching to find every single past 1 vs 1 map vote to look at the voter# correlation with whether or not the data I’ve presented is fully accurate, and that I recognize is where my folly, if any or most, may lay. At least, using the search feature - if there is an area of the forums where they all are listed in order from the first to last I would be very much interested in seeing it.
I desire better for nomad, and we can add so many more maps under nomad including the new tournament maps. With it’s own queue or ranked lobby system such maps will see the light of day for this wonderful game mode. It deserves better.
We’ve reached 69 voters - nice
That’s a recent addition btw, old fortress didn’t have a castle. It was added because in the old days people loved to play regicide fortress, but that’s it. the map wasn’t thought to be played on regicide, but as a normal map with a different start
Then I would be for removing the castle when it’s not regicide as well as placing the vill numbers to the standard 3+ civ bonuses. I personally like the map and concept, and while I recognize that having maps with different starts can be interesting and fun, I feel it best for the ranked queue to remain consistent.
… now the standard start for Fortress has become that one. No need to change it, Fortress has always been played with that start and it’s more than fine to have in the queue
I agree that fortress’ start isn’t much of a problem nor is it too far from the standard game mode at least in terms of villager numbers, tho the castle may certainly be a bit much, never the less, standardizing the pool in general would go a long way towards ranked balance, and there shouldn’t be many if any exceptions.
That’s true but not relevant. Hyperrandom works with all versions of the game back to The Conquerors (the first version to support custom random map scripts). The various new features added to random map scripting since then are not needed to implement a nomad start.
Only in the sense that they have possible nomad starts coded into them, whereas most maps don’t. There’s nothing specific about those map layouts that makes implementing nomad easier in those than in other maps.
I think it’s possible for most maps, and probably not as difficult as you think. On the other hand, there are some maps that it just doesn’t make sense for. (Arena, Fortress, etc. and probably Islands-type maps.)
Oh I see, so you made up these “game breaking bugs” (and even the details of what they did) because your argument required them, and actually you have no source and are just speculating. Got it.
The argument does not require them, it only takes into account that nomad is labeled as a separate game mode and the ‘bugs’ are an attempt as to say ‘maybe this is the reason’ for nomad not being added to the same menu as regicide and death match rather than the current setup of still being labeled as nomad but only being implemented on a map to map basis.
But as you said, certain maps would make absolutely no sense with it, so another possibility as to why may be that.
Regardless, nomad is a separate game mode that’s 100% certainly being confused for standard play.
And in age 1 it most certainly was a separate game mode as well.
This annoys me so much. You Take your opinion as fact and Not as possibility that needs discussion. The whole thread ist like this.
Once again forcing your opinion as fact.
Except you’ve literally used that as part of your argument multiple times as to why nomad isn’t played on Arabia and etc. So yes. The argument did require rhem and you just got exposed for being dishonest.
I am open to listen to counter arguments or middle of the road arguments, however I will state whatever facts I seem to believe are facts and I will label my opinion as opinions. I currently see nomad as another mode as a fact, yes, but I will still listen to other arguments.
As will any readers who choose one side or another or settle in the middle.
