The Age of Empires III Cutting Room Floor

Hi, I have an important question since 2017. Did Tantalus design AOE3 and balance it? Or just made models, did some programs etc.?

i am always curious of Tantalus. Because FE have Twitter account and often post something there, while Tantalus keep silence these years. We don’t know what you guys have done and want to thank you all three thousand.

2 Green Rodeleros sneak up on 2 Red Veteran Janissaries. The choice of units makes me believe this was meant for Act I: Blood, but the choice of color for the Rodeleros is odd. This exists since Legacy and its models were updated for DE.

Yoooo hi
Any news on coming back to game development?

We worked collaboratively with FE. Tantalus worked on most areas of the game in an engineering, tech-art, UX/UI and 3D art capacity. Tantalus built & refined development tools for FE to design and balance the game.
Tantalus also handled setting up seasonal events & added numerous quality of life features - some of which I combed from these forums. If you’d like to watch the very long credits roll - that gives some insight into who-did-what.

There’s no news I’m sorry. Come play AoM:R for a bit :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Not spending a single penny under WE’s name

AoM looks interesting. Too bad I’m not spending a cent on anything with the stink of World’s Edge unless they reverse course on their handling of AoE3.

No. One game does not replace the other. AoE3 is king, let your superiors know we’re not leaving it despite WE best efforts. I actually find this callous attitude pretty insulting as a fan of not only 3DE but the entire franchise for 26 years.

I’d played AoM back in the day, loved it. I was excited for AoMR, but its flaws became apparent to me as an adult. Good remake, so kudos to that, but I have no intention of picking it up again, especially if it had any involvement with the mistreatment this game and community suffered through for a good long while. If I could get my $$ back for AoMR I would. WE should be ashamed.

Trying to get yourself chased out of here? Lmao

Probably trying to stay employed because AoM will get dumped soon unless they increase the player numbers.

@Breadalus As much as I like AoM and other titles I still prefer playing III.
III is my favorite. I know you are a employee there, but doing this is not just ironic is disrespectful at a large scale!

Back on topic. If any developers have something to share, please let them do so. Don’t turn every dev appearance turn into a struggle session.

One of the advantages AoE3DE has over AoMR is that Legacy maps are still compatible. You can copy old scenario files and they will remain mostly functional. Tried this with one of the more infamously modified campaign scenarios:

As you can see, lighting and trade routes haven’t made a smooth transition, as they were changed for DE. We can also appreaciate that some of the unused dialogue had also been updated with the new voice acting. This means a fully functional restoration of the old version of the map could be made.

Not a chance it gets dumped “soon”

Add an American civ and then we can talk.

I’m not even concerned about civs and DLC at this point, I just want a couple patches each year. Anything beyond that is a bonus. We all know support was going to wind down eventually, however, I do not think it’s that big of an ask for it to continue this way.

Of course, the fabled flag DLC cancellation stings, and speaks to the disfunction and incompetence at WE, as many of have been privy to years prior.

yeah same, I don’t even care that much about patches that add content. Balance and bug fixing is enough tbh.

You’d know better than I. I figured recycled China being the next civ was a bad omen

Is it worth it to keep holding out hope for those Denmark & Rzeczpospolita (Poland-Lithuania) civs? Just because it got cancelled, doesn’t mean they’ll never ever reappear? Or any new content is forever being shelved for AOE III DE?

I’m more or less speculating that they’ve poured so much into it and it’s on multiple platforms that it’s not going away anytime soon.
