There’s a lot of unit abilities they don’t even use, technology they don’t research. Their military movement is very strange and will constantly freeze in place or retreat instead of fighting. They never build walls and there’s some units they never build. When will the AI get some improvements?
I really wish the AI was better but at the moment the AI is broken and a lot of things it just doesn’t do . Unfortunately I have reported the AI bugs many times after many patches and in many threads but at this point it still hasn’t been fixed . Yes of course there are improvements since the release of the game but I assure you they are minimal. AI can only counteract you with cheats
The AI is terrible Here is the main topic with bugs and AI problems also in this topic a lot of open discussions after the release of updates where I described the bugs that I found . There are probably more, but I just don’t have a lot of time to find them. Although I hope that many of them will be fixed
In the beginning the AI did build walls and was way more aggresive, but now it just goes for sacred victory everytime and rarely send an army to obliterate my base.
Yeah I remember the AI in the past used to be better than it is now. Somehow it got worse over time.
I found a new bug, if you spectate the AI, you see that they have most of their villagers just standing around idle. Not sure why they don’t move them anymore
This bug hasn’t been fixed since the release version of the game. They tried, but it didn’t work. The villagers are still idle in the late game.
Exactly!
The state of AI is pretty bad in AoE IV right now
Please report it as a bug!
The last time I played the AI would spam lumber camps everywhere.
We’ll see what this Season 10 patch brings.
I hope they make the AI build walls too
lol for a person like me I am happy, I suck at this game and intermediate AI after harassing a bit gives up then i go with big army with all Age 4 units and kill them. I like this way. I don;t really wanna sweat myself after my office work and houseold chores and family time.
Best AI for me time.
That is an absolutely fair point. Games against the AI can be really stressful. I’ve had such a game this week with 3 other human players against AI and it was like an hour of nonstop keeping attention. I felt really relieved when we won, lol. On stressful days easier enemies give you that nice gratification of beating them.
I feel like the difficulty settings are distinguishable enough to give you an option to set it to your own mood. At least that is the way I feel about it right now.
But…on the other hand it feels really map dependent how effective the AI plays. Ancient Spires makes the AI aggressive somehow.
Still I think they should avoid long villager travel distances like here.
Lately I feel like the developers made individual unit behaviour a little smarter; I often see the AI trying to flank me with cavalry to attack my siege or keep Javeline Throwers or Nest of Bees at max distance in annoying ways.
Then later the same AI keeps retreating and sending villagers and traders into my forces.
Still weird.
I am slightly optimistic, that the rough edges of the AI keep getting fixed over time.
The game makes me wanna play it again and again, so I guess it hits my mark enough
