Great question and to be honest I’m not sure. There were a lot of medieval coat of arms.
If your opinion is based on a certain map in history, I can send you a different map to justify my position, but thats not the point, is it?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holy_Roman_Empire#/media/File:Golden_Bull_of_1356.png
And in 9:6 they speak about Bohemian tradition so the author specifically refers to non-German entity which had enough power to be mentioned Needless to say, he mentions Hussites who were almost purely Czech…
And last point, look at the coat of arms of the last prince-elector.
I didnt get it. I miss some resource link and datation, whatever…
It should have the name which would cover the variety of HRE. By calling it Germans/Germany it can induce “Germany - one centralised state under one strong ruler”.
Francis Rapp in his Le Saint-Empire romain germanique, d’Otton le Grand à Charles Quint cited a letter written by Fridrich II to Arabian leaders to leave Jerusalem otherwise he will come with an army of - and then cited several “tribes” like Saxons, Bavarians, Bohemians, Schwabians etc. He does not write about Germans. I apologise I dont have the book nearby so I cannot precisely say. If you wish I will look it up when I get to the book.
What about the Serbian Empire.
East Francia ≠ Holy Roman Empire.
The Teuton name in game came from the Latin name of East Francia and is also logical seeing the Franks are in the game or in other words West Francia.
I know the HRE and its nations, but like I have said 2 times now AoE II never did nations, but peoples groups/cultures. Bohemians and Germans arent the same. Teutons also doesnt refer to Bohemians, but Germanic people. And no calling it Germans doesnt refer to a German centralised state. Franks doesnt sound like a centralised state either?
Give me Polynesians or give me death!
I want Maori Wardancers as a unique unit so badlyyyyyy
Franks no, but France/French yes. Germany/Germans sounds to me like a modern concept of state.
France wasnt centralised at all in the middle ages . And not talking about Frankish empire, but actually Feance since ~1100.
The concept of Germans was already there in the middle ages. Because you see Germans as modern day, doesnt mean it was.
Maori are not Medieval.
Right. But it was not “France”. It was Kingdom of France, a typical feudal state.
Can you provide me with some more information about it? In fact, what I know is, Hussites were the first “national” identification/movement in HRE (maybe even in Europe?, idk). This I read in the book 1415: Henry V’s Year of Glory written by Ian Mortimer; link:
Amazon
I know German nationalism and dreams about one united Germany originated right before Napoleon, accelerating in 19th century. Even Wikipedia does not speak about middle ages (or I dont see it)
Maori are fair game, they settled New Zealand in the 1300s which puts them solidly into fair game territory
I think even though that’s true, the problem is that they were pretty much isolated from the rest of the world until centuries later.
They interacted with Asia
Also where in the rulebook does it say that one? You guys are as bad as smash fans with your community imposed resistrictions that the devs just don’t care about
Devs always look at civis that fits with others.
Ever seen a medieval world map?they had no idea on america south asia and anything beyond indonesian islands.
They did? Any sources you recommend about the records on that? I would love to read it.
Based on just what I know, which isn’t a lot, the history of Maori making war in New Zealand with someone other than more Maori basically starts with the one naval skirmish with the exploratory mission of Abel Tasman in 1642. A stretch to include both in terms of date and scale.
It’s kind of the point of the game, it’s based around historical warfare between different groups, and the units and strategies they could use. A culture that had none of that would maybe not be the best basis for a civ in game.
Dawn of the Dukes is the name of the next expansion and Eastern Europe is the theme.
Lovely
I wonder what we get civs in this DLC. I can not wait.
I will buy Pre-order right away
I think these DLC may contain 4 civs.
This is the most interesting piece of information from this event. USA and Africa to AoE 3 were expected.
No new civs have been confirmed so don’t get too excited if you only buy for new civs. Every DLC description starts by advertising “X new civs”, this time they didn’t. Likeley no new civs for this DLC.
Italy…
How much longer will we have to wait.
