I just don’t want to have to face janissary and GB spam every damn game.
And landsknecht used pretty much every weapon you would found in a typical european infantry formation yet you only get to see them with their zweihanders because its their iconic weapon and having a copy of the generic units with a slight twist is just redundant.
Same goes with janissaries you got them with firemarms as the corps got famous for their usage even if it existed for about a century before they started using them.
There is little added value in just adding layers uppon layers of units with similar function.
Landsknecht could easily have a switch weapons ability. switch to pike for more reach and to stop cavalry charges. switch to zweihanders for a charge attack and area of effect damage. the could have a half swording active ability giving them an attack bonus vs armored units while reducing their zweihander reach and aoe damage
Before the Ottomans were released I thought it might be cool if Jans started with bows when unlocked in age2 or 3 with an upgrade to guns in Age 4 to represent that change in game. Similar to how German Man At Arms can wield two handed maces and Delhi’s howdah elephants can upgrade from bows to crossbows.
Yes but this is a game not real life. But as a türk i can say they did a very bad job for ottomans.Just like no akıncı(Light Cavalry)Which they have very important for ottoman strategies.Sipahi(Heavy Cavalry)Described as Light Cavalry.Jannisaries actually known for elite ottoman infantry but in game they are just weak gunpowder unit.Beside that landmarks are good and accurate
Landmarks are bad transfered to the game. Sultanhanı Trade Network, Double Minaret Madrassa and Mehmed Armoury, they are all bad. Espacially Mehmed Armory is the worst. Who did this, he could make Mehmed Armoury at ten minutes. If you look carefully, devs have made other civ lanmarks so much care. Byzantines and Japan landmarks will be wonderful.
Someone needs to start a thread as a discussion for what an upcoming Otto civ variant could be. What units you want to see (horse archer, archer Janissary, etc). Which landmarks need changed. Overall, what you want the variant to look like.
Giving the current Otto civ a makeover would be unlikely and unfair to the players who spent time learning them. I think this whole Otto discussion would be better suited as a conversation for an upcoming variant instead of expecting the devs to change a pillar of the game.

Mehmed Armory actually very good designed and historicalyy accurate.I will share its photo for you.Its name in turkish is Tophane-i Amire and its look like this.
And this armory make the Şahi(Great Bombard).Which very important for siege of constantinople.

There is no variant of ottomants. We just want historically accurate ottomans.Like sipahi(Heavy Cavalry) design in game for light cavalry. And Janissaries ottoman elite infantry they also able to use bows.Designed very badly. They are like siege support unit rightnow.
That is a huge discrepancy it looks so ugly compared to the actual building
Damn I didn’t know the MIA was so cool irl. Some Ottoman landmarks are really poor in the game like Twin Minaret and MIA. These two should be enhanced.

Good idea.
In game MIA is very poorly designed i agree with you now
Not sure if we have a good description of the original armory, but the modern day one was rebuilt/restored in the 1800s using more modern construction materials, so the modern picture is innacurrate.
From looking at some stuff online, it seems the building has been rebuilt/added to many times:
Sultan Beyazıt II enlarged the cannon foundry built by Fatih Sultan Mehmet. The arsenal was rebuilt by Süleyman the Magnificent in the 16th century and it was also used as an exhibition area for cannons captured in wars. The barracks and drill fields built between 1757 and 1774 in the area were damaged in the fire of 1804.
The current cannon foundry building dates back to 1803. In 1956, the terraces between the sea and the foundry were removed during the construction of Necatibey Street. The gunpowder needed for cannons was produced by Sultan Mahmut II in the Ataköy district, formerly known as Baruthane.
Of course, it could always be that in the early modern age they expanded the armory…
I found this. An engraving by Antoine Ignace Melling, 1819. It’s after the 1803 reconstruction though.
Good catch. Thank you
Maybe not a full makeover, but
-
Great Bombard is indeed still super costly + fragile + useless, everyone still only uses Mango and Springal when match is competitive $$.
-
Late Janissary is still absolute trash unit, diametrically opposite to what it was.
-
Istanbul Palace & Seagate Castle are useless, no one chooses them.
-
MIA needs model enhancement (see pics above) and Twin Minaret needs much better textures. These 2 landmarks looks incredibly poor compared to all other civs.
imagine if the Byzantines get a cavalry archer unit as a mercenary, and the Ottomans still don’t have a cavalry archer…
Great bombard is very commonly used out of the MIA as soon as you hit imp in almost every competetive match right now. Unlike the mangonel it actually fights springalds (even if it’s worse vs units).
janissary is still amazing vs cav civs and is half the reason why French is unplayable into Ottomans. However yes it is weird having it be a cav counter.
