Thread dedicated to feedback on the new update

Yes, it would be a great addition if they included the Boxer Rebellion for the Chinese; that way, the Chinese army would be updated to a more contemporary 19th-century force, leaving behind the feudal units of the 15th and 16th centuries.

I agree. I feel like the Piechur doesn’t really need it, and I don’t see the point of the guard xbow either. The Pikeman I can see it, they have no halbs and usually civs with RG Pikes tend to be more archaic focused, and the Poles definitely fit that bill. Cav Archers too, every civ with Cav Archers has completely different flavor for the unit and I like that. And Retainers… Why not. I think it takes away from the Winged Hussar a bit, but idk I like the idea.

Piechurs are already unique units. Two outta three unique units having a RG is weird.

Exactly; that’s why I get the impression that the developers might be planning to implement that kind of upgrade for the other civilizations. From my perspective, it doesn’t seem like a bad idea, as it allows for revisiting factions like Spain, England, France, and the Netherlands—which lack a rework like the one the Ottomans and Russians received. The Portuguese fit perfectly into that same rework category, given that most of their military units can be upgraded to Guard status (except for Hussars) and they also have quite a few new Home City cards.

Is this true? Because I haven’t seen those changes in the forum posts yet.

yeah all European civs the new sapper unit Grenadier musketeer characer rigging the charged is throwing a grenade of the line grenadier cards and Scot grey unique unit is rework to devs in update

I agree with the Piechur not having Guard upgrades.

It would reinforce the fact that Poles much preferred Cav rather than lowly foot soldiers

There are guards and there are guards. F.e. a mortar is not worth an guard upgrade slot, so is the pikemen.

Poland has the pike, Pancerni (horse archer), their 1 pop cav and their rifle infantry, and with a card the crossbow. So 4 but realistically the Pikemen is just not relevant and the crossbow is well, why field the crossbow when you got an excellent rifle infantry unit.

And not really fit historically in the time period seeing as polish infantry did perform admirable f.e. for Napoleon.

I mean that fits in the time period, but only in that small chunk of Napoleonic era - though as the Poles get the Duchy of Warsaw rev, I’d say that it can be covered there - elsewhere they should not be anything special at all when it comes to foot

Vehemently disagree, seeing as we already got singular RG europeans with italy F.e. and that it significantly hampers a faction in regards to playstyle and function.

I actually don’t like the way they try to implement Meiji Restoration, at least the stable units… They should get unique units, it also deletes all the card effects you had for cav as Maiji Dragoons get back to 2x vs artillery, so what were upgrade cards even good for?

I hope this is a bug of early implementation, because every card sent until Meiji should buff the unit, The “Meiji revolt” itself is hard to get on supremacy, and in both treaty and supremacy, negating the Buffs would hurt the revolt

This is great, but it seems very limited for now.
It would be better if villagers could finally fish near the banks to make fishing in small rivers and lakes viable.

Well, the fact that a unit is relevant or not doesn’t necessarily justify it having a Guard upgrade. That is why I specifically pointed out that if Danish and Polish factions have all Guard units in barracks and stables—thereby depriving other European civilizations of having more of them—it creates an imbalance. I also cited Portugal as a prime example of how adding more than four Guard units doesn’t negatively impact a civilization at all. The main point isn’t really whether this affects other civilizations; rather, the question is why other European civilizations still lack additional Guard units. What privileges do Portugal, the Danes, and the Poles enjoy that allow them to have so many Guard units, while other civilizations are limited to a maximum of two or three? That is why I believe it would be fair and equitable to give other European civilizations more Guard units as well; we all know that such a change wouldn’t break or harm the game in any way—on the contrary, it would actually enhance historical immersion for those civilizations.

During Japan’s Meiji Restoration, China also learned from the West to form modern‑style armies. Chinese civilization should likewise be renewed. For example, that Western‑reform card could be remade.

Did they start wearing such uniforms in the 1860s/1870s? The first photo appears in the gallery of the New Army Wikipedia article and is dated to 1905.

The Meiji Restoration began in 1868, when Japan set about forming its new‑style army. China’s Self‑Strengthening Movement started in 1861. However, China only re‑equipped its traditional troops with modern firearms at that time. China did not begin to organize its New Army until 1895.

Here’s a few things I haven’t seen posted elsewhere:

Timber importer.

Looks like at least one of the new maps will get this.

British civil war stuff

Was there a historical battle mentioned for this?

A boatload of Arctic stuff

Some of this you can see on the revamped Arctic Islands map, but not all. I wish they would have put the seals and walruses on that map to replace the moose.

Well, they told you they won’t read this thread. Good luck.

Oh i agree but my personal take is, that there are units that can easily be guards and not have any impact and then there are units actually worth beeing guarded. F.e. Portugal, nobody cares about the pikemen, a degree of care is the crossbow into riflemen but my personal reason for that is that the animation for riflemen is just superior to crossbows.

So in case of poland you can ignore imo the pikes and the crossbows. With Portugal it’s diffrent because a riflemen is just superior.

Ironically the inverse situation of Italy, guard culvs are ok, guard mortars doesn’t exist.

Yes, I understand, and it is strange. I think they should add more Guard units for the Netherlands, Italy, Malta, Spain, France, and England. Units like the need Guard status: Nassau Pikeman (pikeman) and Flankeur (guerrilla) for the Netherlands; Royal Guard Grenadier (grenadier) and Coldstream Guards (pikeman) for England, (all Napoleonic military units should have access to Napoleon’s Royal Guard); Alpini (musketeer) for Italy; Ranseur (pikeman) and Knight of the Order (Hospitaller) for Malta; and Fencer (Rodelero), Garrochista (Spanish lancer with a new, more modern look), and Miguelete (skirmisher) for Spain.
