Talking about Age2-3, for Age4-5 heavy pike units also work fine. The other option for late game is dragoon unit type.
Age2-3 is not what people are complaining about. Age2 Chinacos are just worse Huss unless you connect to skirms. In age3 they get their biggest powerspike with Caballeros but age4 with the charged is where they become unstoppable and make people mad

Nobody is having problems with chinaco in age2, in fact it is a pretty niche unit in age2 that’s only useful against early skirmishers civs.
The problem with chinaco are the fast industrial builds that allow you to get the 2 power spike cards that turn them from niche unit to essentially mini nukes on horseback. I’d rather fight spahi all day and night than fight those carded chinacos.
It is fun abusing them though, and I will openly admit to doing it.
I’d probably nerf the charge, maybe increase CD a little bit, or reduce its damage again HI.

Just give them a proper upgrade card instead of he broken Caballero card. Extra range and extra multiplier without reducing the HI multi to compensate like literally any other card for semi lancers does(except the Spanish who also get Caballero but no innate semi-Lancer)
Thats why upon age3 and forward civs are able to build Dragoons, I dont understand why is so hard for everyone to use a simple direct counter to cav.

The change was instead of nerfing infantry speed, the bank HP was reduced.
The 2 extra banks tech have been in the game since before DE. The penalty is just less harmful to dutch infantry. Still didn’t stop everyone from using it that played dutch in treaty. Dutch are considered a low tier civ in treaty, this should be pointed out.
A change, that if the base is walled, is meaningless. So it is like the penalty is non existant.
This has no effect in treaty but it makes supremacy late game dutch stronger. Previous players may not go for extra banks because they don’t want to sacrifice speed. Now everyone does it because banks are not an easy building to kill anyway.
Should probably be -10% Building hp instead of -20% bank hp.
Because dragoons do not trade cost effective with chinacos. With liberation march, chinavo gets 7 speed and with 3.5 range it is too fast for dragoons to counter efficiency via hit&run. They are a soft counter.
I just think chinacos should have its penalty against heavy infantry adjusted so that it still effectively has no bonus against heavy infantry (like the naginata rider) if caballero is sent.
Now they have 2.5x0.67 after caballero which is still a decent bonus, and coupled with its melee attack at range, that bonus scales much better than on paper against musketeers.
Balanced or not, counters beyond its unit role for a regular unit is a bad design. I guess it is an oversight.
honestly this is obvious but in practice it doesn’t work if you have to play with an Aztec, Chinese or Inca even with any anti-cavalry the chinaco will kill everyone especially against Chinese and Aztecs, even with any civi that has a dragon they will suffer to beat the chinaco
I think for Dutch it should be like the Napoleonic code church tech: if you want to let regular barracks/stables train mercenaries, these buildings should also become more expensive. Like changing their cost to 150w 100c or sth. Then you cannot spam military buildings to quickly produce a ridiculous amount of mercs.
For Swedes maybe you don’t have to because it is their supposed civ bonus and the merc contract cards have a cost barrier. If their carolean is no longer multi-purpose, it should be fine.
A better way would be to allow more tavern, or enable mercs at forts not barracks/stables.

I do think directly copy-pasting the Spanish card is not a good idea in the first place. Mexico is not going to mass-produce lancer anyway.
Just give it a unique card with a similar effect like the blood harvest for naginata rider.

chinacos age 4 upgrade with caballeros card have 100 DMG vs all infantry a and 50 dmg vs cavalary
lancer with age 4 upgrade have ‘‘only’’ 88 DMG vs all infantry
This card is absurd for Mexico because unlike the Spanish Cav Lancer which has a high multiplier against infantry plus the damage is lower, CHINACO has much greater damage with the CHARRO update from age 4
now pay attention to the difference in damage between the chinaco vs the cav lancer
at age 4 5 the chinaco is basically the best cavalry in the game
