Units path backwards when tasked to attack

:arrow_forward: ISSUE EXPERIENCED

When pathing units to move to a location or attack a target, the units will initially path backwards before trying to go to their exact location. Noticed quite often playing scouts to attack vills while in box formation. This can result in missing out on kills, pathing into spears etc.

:arrow_forward: FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

  • 100% of the time / matches I play (ALWAYS) (Between 50-100 actually but not 75% option)

:arrow_forward: REPRODUCTION STEPS

Here’s the steps to reproduce the issue:

  1. Create a group of 4 scouts in stand ground and box formation
  2. Run around enemy ai base trying to pick off vills.
  3. You will sometimes see them path opposite path before course correcting

Units go straight to attack target especially when no obstruction

Pay attention to Blue players scouts at the red AIs base, around minute 12 and minute 13.
Rereporting official way since it’s happening quite frequently for me now


Also side note, can you let me know what’s the criteria to stop being a new account? It’s very cumbersome not being able to upload files directly when all i use this account for is bug reports.

Side Note: This post which got restored got auto flagged again Units in spread formation don't properly engage.

I took like an hour to actually find this game again in my replays and fight with this site to actually post it. If this link expires again, I hope someone else can provide a bug report for this. Since the site clearly doesn’t want me to do it.

brought this up a couple weeks ago… something is wrong with this forum, or someone is using bots /alt accounts to flag stuff

i really hate this. actually impacts game balance at the moment, so not just an annoying bug


For people who are wondering this, this is how you do this

  • Open a thread with more than 25 posts and scroll to the bottom
  • Click on 10 different threads
  • Leave a thread open for 10 minutes while doing something else

These steps will magically give you the power to attach replays in a bug report forum. Basically this site is built on OS software which has an ill thought out system to determine the engagement of users Understanding Discourse Trust Levels

@Felizon89 @IkoKnight8151 @ConvertThis4915 Please take a look at the following clip, from 41:58 to 42:08. Units would still randomly go backwards in current patch. It happens very often!


Thank you for tracking this! If it helps, here is a video and a recorded game showing how repeatable this issue can be. This is not just an imagined scenario, it is close to what happened to me in the second mission of the Bari campaign: my infantry took way longer than needed to catch up to an enemy mangonel because they kept regrouping (but I did figure it out in less than 10 seconds). Infantry were designed to be much faster than mangonels, but it’s not always true with this pathing.

This was made with version 101.101.63581.0 9025584.

this was introduced last patch, very clear example

the pathfinding on the patch just before india dlc was 10x better and also this bug wasn’t there.
imho that old pathfinding should be used.

also villagers going sideways and villager tunneling through a pack of maa was also much less on that old patch.


i wonder if someone tested pup to see if its fixed

yes it is fixed but sometimes it still appear but I think it is much better than before

I posted this same video on Reddit and StepS (Forgotten Empires developer) commented, saying the bug is fixed in the August PUP.
