What would you like to see in Myth Retold?

  • Return of all Mythologies (yes, this means also Atlanteans and Chinese)
  • Major rework of Chinese (they feel low quality compared to Ensembles creation)
  • Addition of another mythology (Babylonians or Maya if you ask what I would like to see)
  • Updated graphics
  • Quality of life improvements
  • Good pathfinding as well as bug fixing
  • In the long run some DLCs including other highly requested mythologies. I care less about events and more about sustained development (looking at you, AOE4)

I agree with all of these, and yes, the last one especially. There are people who like short-term events, like AoE IV’s Seasons, but I’m not one of those. IMO, the developers should focus on long-term support and development, like AoE II.

I would like to have the revolution system of AoE 3 in AoM retold, like for example:

The Greeks can have a revolution into the Macedonians, Sparta and Athenas. Each one with a unique unit and unique technologies.

Also it will be cool to have another option of minor god when we advance in eras, to have three minor gods instead of two for each era.

AoM will never be like AoE 2 because it has asymmetric civs/mythologies…has to be compared to AoE 3 (since both games use the same engine and AoE 3 draws a lot from AoM)…maybe Retold in turn be influenced by 3 DE and its dlcs for the new mythologies they bring into the game (Slavs influenced by the Russians, Olmecs/Aztecs influenced by their 3 counterparts, Yoruba influenced by the Hausa and so on)…and obviously also AoEO in the case of the Celts, Persians and Babylonians…

Yes, maybe they will rework the game to include 5 minor gods to advance in age…

AoM is about mythology not real life politics.Even if this idea is added how will the other civis have such a thing?norse cant revolt to denmark norway and sweden.

Only thing from aoe3 that might remotely fit AoM is minor tribes/civis with one unit and some techs.

This would mean that the Norse need a substitution for the Ragnarok godpower.

It could be like this. Every civ (greeks, norse, egyptians, chinese, atlanteans) will have their 4 principal gods and 3 minor gods to choose when you advance to the other era. Aditionally:

Greeks can switch to macedonians, sparta and athenas.

Norse can instead of switching to something else they can build the bifrost and summon unique troops from the other worlds of the yggdrasil.

Egyptians can choose how to trascend in the underworld, by rich, by faith, by power or by actions. And maybe they can choose which pyramid build of the three biggest in Egypt and each one unlocks a unique myth unit.
By rich every unit that dies in the game gives a small amount of gold.
By faith every myth unit is cheaper and the monuments gather faith faster.
By power the human units have more health and damage.
By actions every civilian improves resource gathering.

Atlanteans can build cities over the sea in late game and they can build barraks and temples from the culture aztecs, egyptians, hindu. Each era you can choose to build one barrak and temple of one of the civs previously mention. Only one can be build and if it is destroyed you can’t build another unless you advance to another era.

Chinese can have more or less the same system they have in AoE 4 chossing between dinasties with unique units when they build unique buildings.

I like those ideas and I’d like to add upon the different Greek (factions):

Macedonians: Their special unit could be carrying the sarissa and due to the special length of the spears they could get a small chance (15% chance) to one-shot a melee target thanks due to the sarissa. In addition to this they deal greater damage in melee range but their weakness is that they move slower than other units which making it more easy to flank them and kill them from behind were they take extra damage.

Spartans: Hoplites was very common in Ancient Greece, but those could differ between all the different city states, and the Spartans could receive additional bonuses against melee targets having a chance to knockback the enemy dealing extra damage, making the Spartans difficult to deal with in melee vs melee range. This forces you to take down them, by surrounding them or using other ranged units or myth units.

Athenians: They could get a unique sword hoplite unit that is more agile & rushes towards the enemy with high speed, dazing the first target it hits, making them have a chance of missing an attack dealing no damage for 3 seconds. The charging ability has a cooldown & cannot be used very often and because they must be able to run faster than other hoplite units they also wear less heavy armor which makes them more easy to kill as well.

This is not perfect but it’s hard to find a unique unit for each Greek faction in a game like AoM without having to revamp the whole game and make it into a total war game haha but yeah it needs tweaks here and there but it has potential to be something greater possibly.

All numbers and such must be finetuned & balanced of course, as these are just ideas. And also how do one balance mythology with real life history?

What do aztecs or hindus have to do with atlantis? Egyptians are already an ingame faction.

I agree here, the Atlanteans have more things in common with Greek mythology than anything else.

Well in the archeology those cultures hava more or less similarities in architecture so those people think they may have come from some ancient civilization, this is like mythology, and that ancient mythology is correlated to the atlanteans.

  • Unlike the Greeks, Egyptians, Norse and Chinese, the Atlanteans are a mythical civilization. However they do draw considerable inspiration from the Greeks, the Inca, the Mesoamericans (Aztecs or Toltecs were considered as civilizations originally), and the Romans (whom were also originally considered for the expansion). This can be seen in the:
    • Destroyers are based on the Roman Legionary (circa 1st Century CE) and the Retiarius gladiator.
    • Fanatics are based on the Dimachaerus, whom was a Roman gladiation that fashioned two swords, daggers or knives.
    • Murmillos are based on the gladiator of the same name. Their interservice rivalry with the Destroyers is a reference to the fact Retiarii gladiators were pitted against a “secutor”, a gladiator armed similarly to the Murmillo.
    • The Turma gets its name from a Roman Equite squadron.
    • Contarii were Roman Cavalry Auxiliaries that wielded Lances.
    • Arcus comes from the Latin word meaning Bow.
    • Katapeltes comes from the Greek word meaning Shield (peltē/πέλτη, a type of small shield) Breaker (kata/κατά: against {preposition}).
    • Cheiroballistae are Roman Siege engines, essentially a large crossbow.
    • Onagers were Roman siege engines, more specifically a type of torsion catapult.
    • Fire Siphons and Fire Ships use the same technology that the Eastern Romans (or Byzantines) invented.
    • Citizens wear clothes that resemble the traditional clothing of Basque people, who were part of the Roman Empire.
    • Llamas were the beasts of burden of the Inca Empire.
    • Oracle comes from the Latin verb ōrāre, “to speak”.
    • Tamaracks, marsh trees, and quaking aspens are all found in various biomes of North America.
    • The architecture featured in the Atlantean Mythic Age appears to have been based upon the Incan “Mortarless Polygonal Masonry” architecture.

Dont make things up to prove your point.

What point dude, atlantis is just a myth surrounded by a lot of stories from southamerica, europe, asia. Stop talking nonsense and begin to look for ways to enrich the myth in the game.

This is in reference to Atlantis conspiracies claiming that the Basque people are descendants of the Atlanteans, and that it’s the reason their language is so unique.

In reality their language simply descends from a pre-indo-european language, since the proto-indo-european culture never fully replaced theirs.

It may also be because the Greeks confused Tartessos with Atlantis (you know, a great civilization that overlooks the Atlantic that disappears without a trace) (actually Tartessos was conquered by Carthage in 535 BC and remained in Punic power until Rome conquered the iberic peninsula in the Second Punic War in 217 BC)

Wonder if we get any news today on this? Or any update…
