What would you like to see in Myth Retold?

You can see your main god in the AoMR UI. Not sure how big the general differences between main gods are though.

New China is already confirmed. Hope it’s not based on the middle ages again.

Yes I agree…

Maybe they will rework it as a Chinese one from the Qin, Han and at least Tang dynasties…

@MatM1996 At least one more person and I have already asked you to stop replying a lot of messages. There is NO POINT on replying multiple messages to say just “YES, I AGREE…”
You have the “heart” button to work as a “like” / “I Agree” button, mate.
Please, keep forum topics clean.

Look how much of screenspace you took to say an unnecessary “Yes I Agree…”

Again, I mean no offense nor want you to stop contributing.

Since the Chinese being reintroduced has been confirmed for Retold, I’d like to see them keep the fire lances even if they redo the rest of the Chinese unit roster. There’s something appealing to me about the Chinese being the only civilization that can train gunpowder units in an ancient-era RTS, especially since they were the civilization that invented gunpowder in the first place.

Except they had as much gunpowder in this time period as everyone else, which is none.
Atlanteans and Norse are already anachronistic enough, we don’t need more of that.

Are they?
The game was released with 3 civilisations:
1 Bronze Age
1 Classical Antiquity
1 Early Middle Ages

So why are the Norse the anachronistic ones and not the Egyptians?

They can’t be anachronistic because they are not real.

If anything, that would make Chinese with gunpowder fit in better IMO. It’s not like it’s set in a specific time period.

I mean they have some futuristic elements, which I’m not a big fan of

Honestly it’s a silly comparison, the norse depicted in AoM are mostly from early middle ages (the first scandivian were already known throughout Europe in 800 AD), whereas the most recent and plausible attestation of a fire lance being effectly used in warfare is dated 400 years later.

Anachronism should be allowed within certain limits (norse), far beyond those limits it simply becomes bullsh*it (as is the case with fire lance, in tale of the dragon).

You mean the robots?

That too. But I also dislike the trope/conspiracy theory about some super advanced ancient civilization that “created/taught” all others and AoT Atlanteans seem inspired by that.

I dislike the Atlanteans too.
They added a none existing civilisation to the game despite there being so many cool other options to choose from.

What do you think of potential new civilisations like Aztecs or Inca that are 16th century?

I’d personally prefer if they added the Mayans instead of Aztecs for that reason.

As long as they don’t have any futuristic/late medieval technology, I think we can just pretend they’re their ancestors (I assume that’s the intention with Norse).

Same here, I’d go even further with the Olmecs, but Maya would be the best choice though, they are way more known and represented than Olmecs.

@RatcicleFan
That could work too! As long as there aren’t gunpowder units and other absurdities I’m ok with that.

Unfortunately they are not really an option for AoM since we barely know anything about their mythology.
Hard to make a civilisation if we don’t even know the name of a single god.
We don’t even know what language they spoke.
The Mayans have both a long history since ancient times but they also survived until the present day.

This also excludes civilisations like the Huns.
A Tengri Pantheon would be cool though.

Greek mythology had automatons though, so it’s technically not futuristic.

I really hope Retold doesn’t copy AoE 3’s ranked system as I’d love to pick my major god after the map’s been decided, not the other way around.

They could call them the Mesoamericans and give them a mix of Aztec and Mayan deities. Kukulkan/Quetzalcoatl, Tlaloc, etc, etc.

That would be a cursed concept but I could see people accepting it if it was the only way of getting them in.
