I honestly think woad raiders should be replaced in names and skins with highlanders.
Never seen a woad raider with a kilt.
It was in the old William Wallace cutscenes
Yeah, I donât see Africa as an interesting region to create factions. The current ones are rather boring, and their campaigns⊠I barely mastered them, almost dying of boredom.
Seriously, if itâs an African DLC, I wonât buy it.
But I would gladly accept something Arabic or Caucasian.
Well, or the full disclosure of the Scandinavian region
Thatâs just a matter of opinion.
For me, Ethiopians are amazing with their archers and siege.
Malians with their strong cavalry and tanky infantry.
So much fun.
If thatâs how future African civs are going to be then yes please, add them.
If anything Europe is more than represented now, even overrepresented.
I cannot agree with this.
In addition, AoE 2 itself is quite a Eurocentric game, but this has already been discussed in other threads.
Just my opinion, anything is better than the African factions, they are not interesting and boring, I would not buy such a DLC.
I donât mind the combenation of Woad and kilts being used in Medieval times. It gives the Celts a highly destinctive feel. Compare Breave Heart to the later film Bunnocburn âŠI think, the newer film is a lot more true to reality with plate mail soldiers⊠but the units, the armour, the battle and the entire movie was so generic and increadibly forgettable. I prefer Breave Heart in Aoe 2, 100%.
And remember, the rebles whom followed Wallace werent all professionally trained, a lot of them were commoners/farmers whom took up arms and used whatever they could to obtain physical and psycalogical edge. Using woad to amp yourself up and intimidate the enemy would have been viable for those men.
Just look at the 101st airborn devishion on D-Day, they certainly werenât native American and about 300 years not in the time period but they still used Uron and Mohawk war paint and hair styles when they dropped into Normaby.
I would keep the woad raider as is but give the Celtic Champion (as well as all celtic units) Highlander skins with only the last unit, champion wearing a kilt.
My Celtic civ set with William Wallace hero.
I would love for this to be as standard in game with no need for my mod.
This can be said to almost every Eastern European / Caucasus DLC suggestion on this forum lol.
Iâm in the same boat with you except replace African factions with anything from EE/Caucasus and I wonât buy it.
Give me African civs, Indian civs, not euro-adjacent Asian civs, Mesoamerican civs, Oceanic civs, anything before yet another Europe DLC.
What we really need is more civilisation specific units and buildings. Malians and Ethiopians having the same build set isnât right. They donât even get unique castles/monasteries. Sigh.
Wallace was a lowlander. He wore pants.
Why are African civilisations not interesting to you?
probably you cant make many scenario out of it,⊠but African civs were vaste and rich
You definitely can make scenarios out of African history. Check out Philidelphia (FE campaign designer)'s custom scenarios in the mods sections. These were originally intended to be included with the African Kingdoms expansion, but they didnât have the voice actors.
yes phili is a great campaign maker⊠in north Africa, there can be many scenarios as they had somewhat connected with the world⊠but in the south (which many are wanting), I donât think there are many choices
Ah I see you mean yeah. It would definitely take a lot of research to create campaigns for southern African civs.
Yeah, the dev may have to resort to Black families for campaigns (no pun intended).
And when the lowlands were occupied by the English and Wallace had to conduct guerilla tactics, where did he have his base of opperation most of his time ?
Iâm not convinced. An Ensemble Studios design document from 1998 says the Celt unique unit is a âWoad Berserkerâ (clearly the same unit with a different name), but the section on campaigns has nothing about William Wallace, and Scotland is mentioned in the civ description for Britons. The (very brief) civ description for Celts sounds more like itâs based on Iron Age Celts than medieval Scots. Plus if Woad Raiders were based on Braveheart I think theyâd have given them kilts rather than Obelix-style trousers.
