Are you kidding me? Does the game end when a mass of archers is destroyed, isn’t the logic of this game to choose an countering unit? Are you saying the same thing when the musketeers were destroyed by the skirmishers?
If spahi are made trainable with their current stats, they need a massive cost.
But even if that is the case, there might be some threshold that the value of the unit is so high that “cost effectiveness” does not effectively restrict it anymore. So it needs to be controlled by other factors like accessibility, number limit, or timing. That’s why most mercenaries can only be accessed in large batches requiring longer waits, not constantly trained whenever you want to.
I don’t have a mathematic model. Just my gut feeling.
Let spahi become trainable or spam easily is a mistake, nothing else.
India Urumi is the same.
thats one part of it but its not the only part, not by a long shot. There is everything from cost effectiveness, positioning, timing, micro, army comp, economy, build order and so on and even just the unit characteristic itself.
just because the unit “counters” yours doesnt neccesarily mean you will lose. anyone who has played against japan can attest to ashigaru, a musket beating the shit out of skirms or a group of skirms just massacring cavs or abus gummers murdering everything. its not a strict game of rock paper scissors
the spahi as a unit has myriad of advantages that goes beyond just heavy cav and how games are actually played means that alot of their ‘‘counters’’ on paper dont perform as you want them in practice
Otts need a buff. Trainable Saphi is a good start. Increased speed of janissaries next.
And free vills is not enough advantage, they take too long to create, give me 100f for each vill created. Buff otto rush!

I think that is precisely why the spahis cost food, so it could almost be said that the spahi only has its shipping cost.
I remember that we didn’t have infinite spahis before this new version of the game, and although I would also like them to be trainable, I’m really satisfied with what we have now:

The mosque card gives you an upgrade to heavy cavalry in general, and also gives you 5 spahis (That’s 5, right?).

The spahis improves alone with advancing age.

Now you can send them infinitely. (Before you couldn’t).
I always dreamed of an infinite spahis card, and the possibility that the Ottomans could have infinite ‘native’ cards from the metropolis and now we have much more than that.
Clearly most majority of people from a range of elos agree trainable sipahi is a bad idea. Why not just make a mod and pkay it vs ai or casual? That way no one has to fight yet another otto buff if they so choose yet its there for those who just love cool stuff. Win win
Not really. India can send the atonement card and have them trained on the monastery.
India do need #TrainableUrumi though.
For urumi retractors, India didnt have an effective alternative to artillery. Now at least they get rockets, not the best solution but still. They are too much card dependent

As much as I hate everything in this thread, and agree that otto units are wierdly powerfull, i gotta remind that the free but slower vils thing is kinda a**. Tho at this point its the last leash the civ has.
you are speaking without knowing the game, the usa can build 3 taverns while the ottoman can build 1, this is extremely useless.
buddy at what point in the game are you able to fully build out of those 3 tarverns? its a 400 gold cost unit

The only civ trainable area damage cav as far as I can remember are Mahout, sioux one, chinese one and Cuirassier?
One costs a lot of pop and isnt that good, the other is limited by a build limit, another is just trash and the last is a French unique unit which needs that flavor otherwise France doesnt really have a unique unit.
Ottomans have already good units why would they need this one aswell?
Japan can train Yojimbos after sending a card, which have area damage in melee. Lifidi knights get area damage via upgrade or card.
But I agree, Otto combs are already nearly unstoppable once they get going, there’s no need for them to train OP Spahis.
I dont remember Yojimbos doing area melee damage? Is that new?
