Real life problems that take away my time to play games. And the summer season makes me want to be more outside. When its winter i will be on all the time haha
I played through the campaigns twice and had fun.
Then I tried a few skirmish matches against AI, but itās too aggressive to be fun. So I stopped playing the game.
In the Roadmap Update the devs published in Nov '21 they said that the plans for Spring 2022 included:
āAI Difficulty ā Weāve heard from you that AI difficulty could use some tuning, specifically making the Easy AI less aggressive and boosting the challenge of the Hard AI.ā
If they deliver on that in a future patch, or if they release more single player campaigns or other content then Iāll be back playing again.
Until then Iāll continue playing AoE3 and other games.
i actually never stopped ā¦

Many reasons:
they had aoe3DE ready polished nice and neat. But noooo
- Not all the same civs
- no treasures
- no animal variety
- No trading system
- No good maps (very pastel colors no bright shapes)
- No good campaigns
Then, regarding game:
- NO TREATY MODE (BIGGEST MISTAKE EVER)
- Quitters/drophackers
- terrible matching system that sank my ELO to the very bottom so now its impossible to find a decent opponent (im not a pro but at least someone who can stay for 20 minutes doing something decent)
So Iām done. Anyway Iāll comeback to try otto just one match and thatās all.
Reason I play AoE4 less:
-
Busy running my buisiness (end of summer vecation rush)
-
Go home and be a Family man. (1 + 1 kid on the way)
-
Warthunder Summer Event (Get free vehicle which i can sell on the gaijin market to avoid having to spend money on the game)
-
Rearrangement within my HEMA club
You could just play AoE3DE ya know? expecting a carbon copy isnāt doing you or anyone else any favors.
Why removing all the good things from the previous game?? instead of making it better? this was supposed to be the BEST game of the saga. They had to take all the previous things and re-do it with better graphic engine thatās all⦠but they really messed it up.
I havenāt even bought the game because I knew from the beginning I wonāt like it and I have tested it during Beta. I think itās better to buy less, but better games instead of buying many mediocre games and wasting your time with them.
Reasons why I havenāt bought the game:
- Low atmosphere compared to previous games
- Strange Graphics Mixture
- Many features were missing at the beginning
- This Fake Hype. marketing and over positive ratings from some gaming magazines made me even more sceptical about the game. Didnāt look like objective ratings to me.
Do you know itās been almost a year since the beta? XD.
I like to think that fellow AoE3 players are totally blind because they thought for some time that AoE4 had to evolve from AoE3 and not AoE2.
Yes of course, why youāre asking? I watched some gameplays in the meantime and couldnāt see a huge progress. The graphics and atmosphere is still the same.
Settlements, trading posts, and treasures wouldnāt fit into AoEIV. You just canāt shoehorn features from previous games into this one. AoEIV wasnāt designed to have them. The only thing AoEIV should have taken from AoE3 is more flora and fauna. I want my AoE games to be unique and stand for themselves.
And I say this as an AoE3 fan. I donāt want AoE3 2.0 for AoEIV. For better or worse AoEIV was more inspired by AoE2-the most successful game in the franchise.
If you mean the graphic progress, then not much, but you can always darken the colors and it is better for some. The biome must be improved, that is clear.
The same I tell you, the graphic question is very subjective.
wait you forget something:
and thats why i am hanging around in the aoe4forum telling everybody that i not like it and bought it. i do it with all games i donāt buy, thats why i donāt buy games, because no time to play, because i have to post in so many forums!
sometimes i wonder why about you guys⦠itās ok to not like and play it, but move on - play what you like, have a good time and leave this place to fans and let them give some important information about what make em stop or not.
the removed the card system - thats a great pro point for aoe4!
the Zoom issues is my biggest complaint. I have a 32" 4k monitor, and I might as well be playing on a 19" at 640x480. When trying to form up military units you just donāt have the āreal-estateā space to do so effectively.
The game play just seems to be lacking - I canāt put my finger on it, but AoE, AoE2, there was game play; something even if repeated, yet still fun, it would would hold your attention, there was something more. Iām not sure if it is the focus on the eye-candy or what.
When I pull out AoE/AoEII, I come out of that game with a @#%-a$$ grin on my face, something like a kid that just saw the original Star Wars for the first time - excited to watch/play again. AoEIV, I come out of it, and itās like what did I just do in the last two hours - it just isnāt memorable, it was just going through motions, and it is not really enjoyable and doesnāt pull me back to play again.
I had high hopes for AoEIV, but somewhere the essence of the game/play was lost.
Have you seen that they added more zoom? Panoramic mode in settings.
I really like the game, but there is only as much fun I can get from the civs I enjoy, The Rus, Chinese and Mongolians. So more and more I find myself playing AoEII or AoM rather than AoEIV.
The Malians and to lesser extent the Ottomans taking place of civilizations I have been looking forward to since the gameās release does not help at all. That is however very subjective, I admit they both look interesting, just not appealing to me personally.
With that, I hope next DLC is coming sooner, rather than later. Another year of waiting seemsā¦terrifying. I really enjoy the things I enjoy about this game and wish a good future for it.
Gameplay:
It lacks some maps and game options. But fortunately there are mods.
Visuals:
The wrong sized buildings and the lack of siege crew take me out of the game (I really like the immersion even in a strategy game)
Community:
Iām a player who plays with friends. And my friends stayed on AoE2, AoM and AoE3. Too few bought AoE4 because of the price or the lack of content compared to the previous games.
In truth, itās mostly a mix of the three points that make me play less AoE4. Iām waiting for the game to evolve and improve. In the meantime, I stay on the other strategy games.
I will agree with you with no good campaign, no animal variety and pastel colors, but the card system was not needed nor treasures (those are age lll exclusive) I will add the lack of animations (especially siege ), lack of unit detail, toy weapons, units in walls mechanic useless, building proportions and unit proportions ( siege super big units and building smaller)
My biggest issue is immersion, when playing I note all those details (or lack of).
