I think it’s working, they just viewed it.
when did they view this?
2 Hours after Lords of the West was released.
I sympathize with the difficulties of upgrading and maintaining three titles that are ~two decades old. However, they took the challenge (and did a good enough job this time around, to be fair).
It also means they raised some money in the process which makes me suggest, though with a heavy heart, the development team not to work on an Age of Mythology: Definitive Edition (if that’s even happening backstage). It would give them some room to improve the already released three titles.
Maybe after Age of Empires IV?! I known the development teams are different, but from a business point of view, could make sense…
What do you guys think?
I prefer AoM 2 than AoM DE. A soft reboot of that spin-off would be great and a new game engine so animations would be better.
So, do you think that we might get some good news in a near future, regarding the new patches and dlcs?
But tbh you could literally release a AoE 1 DE DLC with minimal budget and effort. Just design a few unit upgrades (like bronze age slinger upgrade, iron age camel upgrade and so on) and techs and 4 new civs (with existing skin presets) and you would already make AoE 1 fans happy. Campaigns would be very appreciated, but not necessary. If devs do that, they will see that people will come back to AoE 1.
Probably, I plan on sending another message if they don’t respond today. And it would really help if the others wrote touching messages too. And I would like it AoM got a sequel after AoE IV so I can get a taste of some mythology without the graphical downfalls of AoM: EE
Spamming the devs is not going to help. If you want AoE 1 to get some attention, keep the AoE 1 forums running. If there’s enough interest in the game, it’s likely that the devs will consider investing more time in updating it. Of course, it also depends on MS…
When I play aoe 1 de, I always have fun, because i know this is best time zone of the game for me, because i love greek, roman battles etc. But sometimes i am sad because i know that the game could be much better than aoe 2 de, but i dont know if MS and its co-workers are listening to us fans of the first game.
The second game, already got a new DLC, but the game came after AOE1 DE, isn’t it strange. They have just skipped the first 1, as it never existed, but the 1. one is the root of all aoe games.
I f they were a little smarter, they would invest in the first game also, and on top of the second one, this one could be even bigger cash cow for them. Isn’t money what they are after, I would gladly give some money for the new dlc, but first they have to prove, that they deserve it by fixing primary things in aoe 1 de. Such as: soldiers jamming with each other and just watching as the enemy catapult is attacking them. And priests, almost most needed unit in the game, as they just dont move when you order them to. Or villagers stucking between resorces or stop farming, i could go on and on.
But the second one, got all their attention and it has payed of for them and us. Imagine if they invested this amount of work into 1. game, and after that into the 3. The community would be so happy, that they would buy these games non stop.
I hope some of this sinks in, and that we get some results finally. Thank you
I tried it again, and it reminds me of why I stopped playing it quickly.
Controls, Pathfinding, Formations/Grouping, Interface/Usability and Resource Balance are just terrible. there are no gates, there are no market selling/buying, trade is a confusing hassle, houses only support 4 pop means constant back and forth, low pop limit, and did I mention pathing/controls/formations are atrocious?
the amount of time wasted trying to get units unstuck from one another by the smallest terrain detail, babying them one by one to unclamp so they can move down a straight line or flat out deleting them in frustration during a campaign playthrough made me uninstall. its hard to convey how often units clump up and decide they don’t want to leave their special spot. the attack move in this game is easily the worst I’ve ever seen in a video game as well.
its like a patience stressor, so many game design elements seem tailor made to waste your time doing the smallest and most banal of tasks. until these issues are fixed I don’t know how I could recommend this game to anyone. doing anything else with you and your groups time from listening to e-books to playing board games through zoom would be time better spent.
and from what I read, since they don’t plan on fixing the pathfinding/formation/control issues as well as adding stuff like gates and markets to differentiate it from aoe2, its a dead end. how do you think this game will ever be popular enough for an expansion pack when the basics of an enjoyable rts is lacking.
game needs to be written off and left as-is for its diehard fans and a new classical era AOE game with modern controls and pathfinding should be attempted instead. it would create interest for far more players, get rid of the tech/design debt from the past few decades, and be a superior game in every way to boot.
Why not both?
While I’m honestly tired of people randomly suggesting specific civilizations of their own taste, I agree on the fact that the game would appreciate some fixing and upgrading (pathfinding, more dynamic AI), new features (formations, which could be implemented via a new technology, keeping it optional to develop), and new content (basically some new civs).
As I’ve just posted in another topic, there was a new item listed in the AoE DE SteamDB page, in the “DLCs” section last year:
But still no news about it.
Hmm. Interesting. But I guess it could be the rumored ‘Enhanced Graphics pack’, similar to that of AoE2:DE
There could be an update removing both 2x and 4x zoom levels to make them exclusive to the pack, and to improve performance on low-end PCs as well.
well i hope, they will listen to us , because we are desperate
AoE1 might get some love now that the DLC for AoE2 is out, but I wouldn’t hold my breath.
He said he couldn’t give me an answer and that I should ask someone at World’s Edge.
Well it would only be fair, that we got some attention.
will you send them on the worlds edge a message? we are behind you all the way
Yep, and this one will be more poetic than the last one. But I will need help finding a World’s Edge dev.
