Why is Age of Empires 1 so stagnant?

AoE1DE already has better graphics than AoE2DE without UHD graphic pack so I think is must be something else.

The plan was to make the x4 graphics downloadable via the new graphic pack DLC to reduce the size of the base game but that never happened.

That would be godsend. 11

Yes. I meant to say split them, so they are optional, and do not require a download even if players won’t use them at all.

I love good graphics but I never saw the purpose behind the UHD graphics in AoE2 DE. I play zoomed out all the time so I don’t see the difference. I only see the difference in frame rate.

Didn’t the graphic quality setting in AoE1 also affect the zoom level? Not sure what setting I use there but zooming out is more important than nice graphics close up in an RTS. (Edit: Just checked it. The graphics quality change the zoom level so I play on 1x)
Also one thing that is better in AoE1 DE than in AoE2 DE you can zoom out so far that you can basically see all of a small map. It’s so far that I can’t play efficiently anymore on my 1440p screen but it’s nice to have and can give a nice overview.

The devs really need to understand how ignorant they are being by not caring about the game that started the franchise in the first place.

And, how do you think we explain it to them?
They hate aoe 1 de community, thats why there is no answer. To them is important, that aoe 2de and 3 de succeed. But the best game of the franchise to rott in cell somewhere. That is not fair and also very polite. :sob: :sob: :sob: :sob: :sob:

The first time I’ve heard from World’s Edge was about the development of Age III: DE. How exactly they are now responsible for the first game as well, I can’t say.

Who’s responsible for this mess, after all?? Should we ask Forgotten Empires or World’s Edge for answers?!

They already know that. The truth is, as they own make it look to be, is that they don’t care. Or their bosses, what I believe is the most probable. Not because they are evil or something, but because they have decided that the main investment values for the studio should be directed to the other games, as they are more popular.

To be honest, we shouldn’t even have to care about doing so. They know we are here and it is part of their commitment with the game’s community to communicate with us.

It’s exactly what it looks like with their behavior toward us, indeed :disappointed_relieved:
I believe I can say it in the name of everyone here that we feel more like a thorn in their side than a community of players or fans.

Very rude from them, that’s to be sure. At this point, the minimum I expect from them, as I’ve said on another post, is a solution for every single bug in this game. Nothing less. Nothing more.

Can we write the letter or many letters to Microsoft and Forgotten Empires, that we want new updates , fixes and dlc on top of that for this game?

Yep, that is the only way because the devs completely ignore this forum and this entire community but they will probably read that letter right before tossing it into the trash. AoE III, the least commercially successful of the three games gets more love than AoE: DE and that’s a fact.

AoE3DE is new and buggy of course it gets more care at the moment as did AoE1DE when it got out.

To be honest the game which got the worst treatment is probably AoM Extended Edtion

I personally think AoM: EE and this game are currently tied in terms of support. Both are “stagnant” since July 2020.

What I want the most for these two games is better support.

Previously, I wanted Microsoft to develop and publish a definitive edition for AoM, but considering things that have been happening not only with AoE: DE but also its sequels, I rather not have another defective product. It seems to me that it is better to keep a game updated and in shape, than to make a new edition, and that there are two or more versions, one more problematic than the rest.

I agree that graphically, AoM: EE is not the jewel on top of the pyramid, but that doesn’t really matter that much when gameplay’s great.

It was my hope that instead of AoE 4 we would have a reboot of AoE 1 or AoM, but alas

AoM may be great but it never struck me as an Age game. Sort of like how Doom 3 isn’t a an actual Doom game.

it’s a different take on the genre imo, but the same can be said about AoE 3 too. Only AoE 1 and AoE 2 feel like “true” AoE games to me.

AoE III is a true Age game in my opinion but AoE I and II are more memorable than III.

(even though I like the idea of the game) Aoe1 is old and dated with terrible mechanics. There’s no players so no money in it.

As much as i would love to see a remaster of zero hour, EA games will make a truck ton more money making sports games instead
The same goes for aoe1 and content

AoE need some AoE II mechanics incorporated into it for the sake of feel more acceptable to modern expectations, like gates and some trigger events to make the scenarios more interesting.

Unit stances were included in the last update on June 2020, but they came bugged and we don’t have the siltiest clue of when they are going to be corrected.

Some sort of formation system is a must, but I think they shouldn’t work exactly like in Age II. Maybe units could organize themselves in a line formation when they reach their destiny. They may become accessible through a Bronze Age tech.

Unfortunately, it looks like the devs have gave up on this game long before began exploring its true potential. I honestly give up on expecting any sort of new content more than the correction of every single bug in this game. Even for something as basic as this we almost need to beg for it.
