Why is Age of Empires 1 so stagnant?

Exactly just fix the long term bugs and add few civis which can use already ingame assets and your done.

I am not against new content for AoE 1 DE. I’m just trying to be realistic. It is good to dream, but when the game is not even finished it is impossible to have a DLC. The game would have to work well and be attractive, to attract new public, the developers will not invest money for a handful of followers.
My heart is with Age 1, but I am one of those who plays Age 2 because of the updated content and the number of online games.

The idea of Exradicator is the most sensible thing that I read in the forums.
I think the first thing would be to fix the game, it still has the pixelated models from the original game for the cheat units. Something that I have been saying since the beta. Also important (and promised) is the Flare function. Another very important addition would be the villagers multitasking, or with a task queue (pressing SHIFT) as in Age 2. Also give more bonuses to some civs, like Shang or Assyrians.

If they add this, and fix the bugs (which are not few) perhaps the first priority of the new content would be the Light Cavalry (It would be the Scout upgrade ), available for civs that do not have chariots. It makes sense to balance the late game and not hurt gold-dependent civs as much. It’s everything I expect from the game.

Doesn’t this already exist in AoE: DE? I remember using it a couple times.

No, they haven’t added it yet.

I agree with you.

I have made this topic listing every single bug still to be corrected I could find reported on this forum and, well, the list is truly epic:

This forum hasn’t had a new post in a week.

I’d rather get barbarian styled civs: Thracians, Germans, and Celts.

About what, too? :thinking::thinking::thinking:

On the upgrade to the slinger, researching I see that a unit using a ā€œstaff slingā€ would be the ideal upgrade. As also seen in contributions (comments) above. A technology for improving the slinger could be ā€œiron projectilesā€ which could increase the attack and range of the slinger and secondarily change the cost of stone (10 stone) per gold (5 gold). Thus making a viable unit in the near ages.

Yeah, it is sad, that the makers of this great game do not like the buyers of this great game.

I love Age II as much as the first game, but for different reasons. Age II is a great strategy game in any conceivable way, but that doesn’t mean the first game isn’t great by it’s own merits. It is more simple in a good way. A few more improvements and it would be right on the spot!

I was thinking about that today… This game its becoming officially on the verge of been forgotten. I was considering playing it again, but then the memories of all the frustration motivated by the awfulness of so many bugs came to mind, and then I gave up on the idea. It’s the case for a refund, really.

The good memories I’ve had with the game more than makes up for its downfalls.

One of the funniest memory I had with AoE1 was when lion was chasing a gazelle and my scout was chasing that lion.

Well, that feeling it’s exactly the reason I’m playing the classic one at this very moment lol

It’s more than 20 years from now, but I remember as if it was yesterday the joy I felt when I’ve finished built my very first wonder on the Ascent of Egypt campaign!

Or when I advanced to the Iron Age the very first time on the same campaign! It was so cool to see that buildings coming to their final, beautiful form. Ahh, the good old days!

AoE I was my first ever RTS game and I remember when I first played it I just clicked on a villager and made him chop a tree. I still have the save game so I can always go back to that time.

I remember leaping out of my chair and dancing when I finished that wonder.
