Why no squire for Portugal ? It does seem kind of random

sounds too good for a team bonus. With Persians, the archers don’t want the knights to get close anyway and I think it only helps knights killing xbows 1 hit faster, cavalier and paladin need same hits.

I though it would not be very useful except againt Hlabs or other Champs, but I am open to criticism.

As a civ bonus, I can think of it being balanced and helpful in drush vs drush situations and late game but I don’t see Portuguese as a infantry civ in their current state

Truly, they are an Archer civ.
I think they just need a Gold discount increase, or a Ship HP increase and a small buff to Organ Guns.

I think that would be a bit too much for handconers, just +5 hp and see would be better than so much, dont want another letis or tuetons or steppe lancer or…

Since we are now posting suggestions rather brainstorming I copied some old poster and added some new ideas.

Some buffs to their UUs:

1a. caravel 5% faster movement (currently same as Galleon) and creation time reduced (currently same as Galleon) with an even further train time reduction for elite. Wood cost reduced by 10 (currently same as Galleon) , gold cost increased by 5.

1b. Organ guns and elite organ guns damage changed to 12 each from 16 and 20 respectively, instead extra bullets deal 3 damage (increase from 2, this ignores armor currently) and 4 for elite (total Single target damage is unchanged) .
Additionally, the extra bullets should deal full damage even when missing the intended target (instead of halved like currently).
Also Lose +1 extra damage against rams (this doesn’t have any effect at all and is just redundant)
Reduce the flame delay from 6 to 5 (same as crossbow) for elite organ guns

  1. Mini Bufff to their UT:

Canon galleons and bbt effect sliglty more from the imp UT (faster bullet) to make the effect atleast noticeable. Hand Canoneer get +5% Accuracy from the tech

3.1. Free Cartho becomes a civ bonus
and
3.2a. New Team bonus: Millitia lines deals +2 damage aginst skirms and genitours and pikemen.
or
3.2b. Eco Buildings mil, lumbercamp, dock, market and mining camp all grant +5 pop like a house

The following points are debatable since it might go too far if 1-3 were adopted. I would rather see 1-3 and drop the next points:

4a. New bonus: University techs cost 30% less. (allows cheaper ballistic and chemistry for water, archers and fast imp gunpowder, also let’s them go bbt)
or
4b. Gold discount extended to everything, so techs and… bbt

What about bonus against Foot Archers (Archers, Skirms, HC, Archer UU), literaly the same as Persian, but for Champs?
Not really significant, because Champs are not good against Archers, but interesting.

That would only be really relevant against skirms maybe. Other than that the swordmesn will get shot down first. Unlike the persian knights who can actually aplly the bonus damage.

It also desont make any sense historical wise because the hand guard of the above discussed iberian swords dont help against arrows

It helps vs unpacked trebs and I think it does with rams as well since organ guns do 7 damage when they should do 5, not sure how the projectiles work.

Doesn’t matter, to implement bonus vs skirms, you’ve to give the militia an attack bonus vs the archer armor class (since skirms are in archer armor class)

Without Squires, any bonus vs Archers would be severily diminished, and on Infantry, it would do nothing at all.

Yep, but remember, we are talking about Team Bonus.

Maybe not very good for 1v1, but will be very good for other Civs, like Vikings or Malians.

Wouldnt that be someting really unprecendet? Turks got fastergunpowder traintime and of coures got great units to use this.

Persians have great knights and a bonus to that, list goes one like this. I dont know, it sound like a weird argument to me.

Only thing that can be compared is genitours on turks i guess, where the original teambonus is better on another civ?

Not only. Italian Condo is also better for other Civs, then for Italians, Byz bonus is better for Teutons or Aztecs, Ethiopian is better for Koreans, Incas or Spanish, Burmese for Lithuanians, Magyar one for any archer civ,

Hmm OK. I still don’t like bonus damage against archers but I see your points. My impression was incomplete.
