Why people are still leaving? I don’t understand…

It seems it just boils down to preference really, I dislike the art direction civ took as well.

Not only the art style, but everything just seems to be simplified. I want more complexity not simplification, but hey development studios think most video game players are simpletons who can’t handle the complexities of AOE3 and blame that for it’s failure (personally I blame the exceptionally laggy online experience)

Civ was always stylized tho, age was a series with 3 games with photorealistic graphics (for their times) and now they’ve decided to go more cartoonish.

A big part of it I’ve realized is the lack of detail, aoe3 has much more detailed Flora and fauna, building models, etc etc.

Man that was what I tried to explain , literally I was saying that :

Aoe2 got its legacy features in its launch but it took more years to fully implement modern feautures

Aoe4 lacks some Legacy features because the rush launch but PROBABLY in 12 months will get ALL of the Legacy feautures and A LOT of things Aoe2 had in its 20 year old development

That’s what I tried to say . English is not my main , I’m spanish .

Yes that’s the same thing.
But the difference is, you might think the current state is acceptable, or it is unacceptable but will be improved later. I think the current state is unacceptable.
Even if it got improved later, the current state is still unacceptable. That’s the only thing I’m criticizing. Rush releasing a game in a state like this is not good practice. It has its gains of course, but it also comes with risks. One of the risks is being criticized as an incomplete game.

I mean … Civ was stylized but it wasn’t that cartoony .

Probably the next aoe we have will have realistic graphics .

And I agree , and I’m not defending the game. I’m only defending the good things about it , nothing more.

After 10 years of waiting I was really hoping I wouldn’t have to wait another 10, I’ll be frickin 33

Here’s to hoping it comes a lot sooner

Nah , aoe is Alive , Shanon loftis said in its goodbye letter that they have something prepared or being maked for 25th year of age of empires .

So maybe we have a new game coming

already responded by other user but anyway… aoe 2 base game has already all core features. same case with aoe 3. They got like 12 years after their last aoe big game (aoeo). so its more than enough to make an rts with the basic features.

New game no, but DLC or expansion possibly, although in all honesty i’d still greatly prefer seeing game fixed to the typical age standard before any expansions or DLCs are released, admittedly spring update is doing a lot in this direction, but there’s still stuff missing even after that

unless they end up dropping age of mythology DE, that would be a good suprise, assuming its in decent shape

Being able to tell units apart from one another and from the terrain around them is a huge deal in an RTS game. Aoe3 has the advantage of 3D to do it, and even in a 2D game like Aoe2, this isn’t an issue. Only aoe4 somehow made this a very difficult thing. This is quite literally the first RTS game I ever played where I can 't tell units apart, and I’ve played quite a few.

Aoe4 basically failed at that. I personally can hardly tell one breed of knights from other breeds of knights, one type of archer from other type of archers. They all basically look the same (yeah, if you zoom all the way in there are some differences).

It is , but they could have done something more as the style of aoe4 , bringing more armour instead of color .

Really? This was the worst problem of aoe3 , surprised that you had problems in aoe4.

Quite frankly, I can’t understand how they can keep their face straight when they say aoe4 is a multiplayer focused game. The primary need in a multiplayer is to tell units apart. Aoe4 fails at this very basic need.

And lets not get started again on zoom, keybindings and other very basic things that games from 20 year ago had.

This will be a personal preference comment, i think AOE3 doesn’t make it hard to tell units apart, yes, there are some units that are pretty similar at first but there it was related to time period, so naturally its harder to make distinctions, AOE2 time period made it easier to make bigger distinctions. Now where i stand on this in AOE4, to me it looks like a really washed out painting, with units being the worst offender, here more detailed textures on units would help with telling whats what, unit detail was on point even in original 2 and 3, despite far lower resolution at their respective releases (DEs just added more detail now that resolution allows for it), in 4 tho, the level of detail on units (and thus, the ability to tell them apart more easily) doesn’t match the resolution at its disposal, ik 4K is not used by all, but a 4K texture on 1080p will still be more detailed than lower res

Not really , i havent played Aoe3 de , im just basing my self from the first recepcion Aoe3DE had and many of the discussion we had on that chat

to clarify, my personal preference

Actually the exact opposite is true, AoEIV units have too much color on them and that makes them indistinguishable.

Are you really saying you can’t tell a musketeer from a skirmisher or a dragoon from a hussar? I’ve played AoEIII since 2005 and never had a hard time trying to figure out what units are what. AoEIIIDE enhanced this even further with better/crisper unit models.

You don’t like the graphics that’s fine but come on now.

It’s not only the graphics and the way units look. In both aoe2 and aoe3, different units have different animations. You can tell a man at arms from a samurai in aoe2. You can tell the “disorganized” guerilla type skirmishers from the line disciplined marching musketeers from the way they walk in aoe3. You don’t even need to look at the models too closely.

Everyone can express their opinions , i have been playing aoe3 since my childhood too , im not saying that a horse looks like a musketeer ,wtf . Im saying that units of the game FOR me looks horrible and indistinguishable

huh?
i dont see that much color in aoe4 , and i picked randomly a unit from aoe4 and a unit from aoe3 DE
