Can we not use Italians for Venetians? Cant we represent Serbs with Bulgarians? Why Tibet, we have China already? Is there any point at the Nubians with Ethiopians?
I think we need to stop asking who can represent who and just asking what the civ would be about
Either way, I think that Vandals could work as their own civ, prob as a very agressive naval and siege civ with terrible defenses and bad archers. Although tbh I think they are far from necessary when compared to the Goths

Yes you are 100% correct we should delete off new DE civis from this game and go back to the umbrella system.

Im just being sarcastic. I just think that we should just ask what the civ is about before saying if other civs represent them well
The Goths are already bad at representing the Goths, they work better as the Saxons.

A name that represent the people, culture, or place they lived in, like “Rajputs” or “Hindustanis”, or even “Indians” is not that bad, if you link that name with the Indus river. Delhis and Mughals represent only the Delhis and the Mughals, respectively.

Honestly I know neqrly everyone doesnt care about the Somalis (or at least I have seen little to no people asking for them outside myself), but I think they are a pretty strong civ choice. They existed through the entire middle ages as powerful trade centers of the red and Indian ocean as city states in the early middle ages and as sultanates later, were one of the first peoples of Africa to adopt islam as well as gunpowder, and had plebty of stone fortifications and large cities also built in stone. Also, Ifat and Adal have plenty of recorded history to work with for a campaign. Prob the obvious one is the conquest of Ethiopia by Adal.

Tbh problem with the Swahili is that theres not that much info on their military

They had multiple wars with Ethiopia and the Portuguese as well as a lot of infighting.
Also they fought off the Oromo who were kind of interesting

Since the discussion of new civs began with LotW, (before that everyone was like “devs said no new civs”) I always thought that Somalis were THE civ to be added to Africa for the exact same reasons you listed.
If we had to decide, they’re way better choice than the Swahilis. (Though I’d like to see both)

I think Somalis and Kanembu would be the perfect African DLC honestly. Although I doubt Kanembu will ever be added since they are fairly obscure.
Good thing about Somalis is that they also are fairly recognizable
Vandals civ for AoE 1 DE are pretty cool.
