company of heroes doesn’t even have the importance AoM has which comes right after AoE. didn’t hear anything about CoH tbh. i guess we see a new CoH much much later than a AoM which might be way sooner.

stop be so negative. they already confirmed they are working on it. till then they have enough time to seel copies of AoE4. your argument doesn’t even make that much sense and just sounds jaundiced

great summary. have the same thoughts - but tbh had this thoughts already years ago and nothing happened but since AoE4 my hopes come up again. also devs already stated they didn’t forget it and someone even said they work on it after AoE4 is finished or something.

but which game are you talking about which comes along with age and mythology elements? really curious. the mod 0AD is on steam i assume? thanks for the input. enjoy your content from time to time quite often despite not playing on such a level at all personally.

We need journalists and interviewers to ask about AOM.

THIS. Only way we’ll find out if they’re doing anything. Plus it will show that there’s an interest.

I want to know WHO is working on it. If its Relic, I’m sad, if its Forgotten Empires, I’m happy.

I’m ready for an AOM DE first. Would love to play this game with the improvements that DE has brought to each of the other titles. Would be great to see new civs and new dlc over time.

After that, AOM2 has a lot of potential due to the limitless source material out there - mythology. I just hope that the game doesn’t move in the direction of Relic and AOE4 where it takes itself too seriously.

Same here. TBH I don’t think we need an AoM 2 atm. Hopefully they’ll release AoM DE this year. I wanna play a new improved version of AoM first.

I endorse this. I think AoM has still a lot of pontential and deserves a DE edition. There are tons of scenarios that I’d like to see in a 2022 graphic. And, of course, I like more Forgotten Empires than Relic.

Can you guys explain me why you are all so much fanboying over a DE and hating Relic so much?

I honestly personally agree with this comment I read somewhere:

“ AoM was a product of its time, many ideas there are extremely outdated.
I think it would be really better to skip DE for it and go ahead to 2.”

And about Relic yes AoE4 as it’s flaws but AoM has flaws too like other games. And I think AoM4 makes some cool/great things which I personally wouldn’t mind to see in the next AoM.

Maybe one of you guys can explain me your point of view better cause I personally don’t get it.

Because some of us, such as myself, HATE Aoe4. I can only speak for myself, but I think the units in AOE4 look absolutely awful and ugly. The main reason I play AOE vs other RTSs is because I want to see cool looking medieval units. My understanding (I refunded the game after playing for 20 minutes) is that all civs have access to all techs for all of the units. Unit hot keys not customizable. No ranked. Relic is anti-customization and anti-user options. For example, they limit the zoom so that everyone plays with it on the maximum zoom settings. The zoom level was the NUMBER ONE complaint, by far, from the beta testers, and Relics response was to adjust the zoom level just so they could say they adjusted it without really adjusting it. (See ageofnoob video on aoe4 zoom to see the difference- you can’t even tell). How can anyone trust Relic to not mess up AOM? I mean the graphics look horrendously bad aside from the terrain, the gameplay is boring, the camera angle and zoom levels are all wrong, games are boring to watch usually involving the same few units types. Basically they blew it on everything. The player numbers on Steam reflect this, AOE2 now has more players than AOE4 after the hype wore off.

Now in contrast look at Forgotten Empires. They listen to user feedback, constantly make adjustments. They have a proven track record of doing so. They are able to balance games- eventually, cough, not so sure about Japan civ in AOE3 which is still unbalanced, but they do balance most stuff. They care. They added ‘ludicrous zoom’ to AOE3 in response to user feedback, added auto scouting to AOE2 because its something some players really wanted. Everything Relic isn’t.

Here is why AOM is 10x superior to AOE4:
Massive variety of very cool looking and differently functioning units
Many interesting god powers which can be used in all kinds of strategic ways
Every ‘civ’ has unique stuff about their units
Options such as zoom and hotkeys fully customizable, although AOM also needs further zoom out added, its still way better than AOE4
Autoque units/villagers
Titans
Really cool and unique unit abilities such as medusae turning other units to stone or Son of Osairus blasting chain lightning bolts, or a dragon which breathes fire while flying, minotaur which headbutt units and they fly across the screen, make the game super fun

Exactly this ! Every word on here.

I prefer 100% a AOM DE + eventually new DLCs from FE Team than a AOM 2 made by relic, just to make it without any passion or desire.

AOM DE would be a buy from me, AOM 2 of relics even no try, i would not waste time in buy and try it just to refund it afterwards.

What are the cool/great things AOE 4 has?

you seem quite furious. keep in mind that i do share the love and nostalgic you have for AOM. i played this game 2002/3 when i was a very young teenager.

about your question:

  • i personally was a bit concered about the design before release of the game, but when i played it, it grew on me. i don’t see a problem here anymore. colourful is nice and suits the genre and the genre and games never where very serious and 100% accurate - especially not AOM and i don’t mind that personally at all. also maybe you didn’t noticed this in your rage, but there are some nice details in units and buildings i hope to see for a future game too.
  • AOE4 has also some nice details like certain torch, smoke and weapon change effects (like two handers for HRE)
  • the forests and wild animals are a nice touch and it feels way more natural than in e.g. AOM (but still improveable ofc obviously)
  • that units can walk through forests is GREAT and always bothered me in AOM (especially when the trees have so big space between each other…)
  • the effects when a building gets destroyed is nice. yes artillery looks odd when it just explodes but when you aim for realism: i wouldn’t expect that canonballs would send units ragdoll flying in the air and more like really break down/collapse
  • the automatic streets and bushes between build buildings are an amazing touch and let your hole base feel more like a proper town than before in other games

but sure AOE4 has its flaws like every other game had and has some could have been really more improved on and took with more priority and seriousness, i agree here.
the unit-managemnet feels more clucky than in AOM, aswell as the lack of few other things gameplay wise thats unfortunately true.

but about your point of “always same units” well, when i watch guys like bolt.tv i surprisingly only see certain units over and over again. the variety of more units doesn’t help here. also even i LOVE variety and uniqueness: you can’t compare AOM and AOE here. AOM has way more creative freedom here. AOE needs to be grounded to a certain level which automatically minor the variety of unique units.

the music in AOM4 and the voices of units are great too btw like in AOM and i loved the unique voices and the tracks of AOM (prostagma?! :D)

conclusion: some of your points are fair and valid, some are some full of subjective rage and let you compare features like you would compare apples with pears. both fruits but different types of fruits.

I actually agree that the terrain in AOE4 is good. Which seems to be where most of your positive feedback towards AOE4 comes from. So essentially they managed to improve the terrain while making everything else a lot worse. What AOE fan wouldn’t be upset about that? It is about on the same level as Disney ruining Star Wars. Disappointing but eventually I forgot about it.

AOM even supports day/night options. You can just tell that the people who made it love and play the game themselves, just like you can tell that Relic developers don’t.

The short version: We want a new AOM from FE, not Relic.

That’s why I’d far rather have AOM:DE, not AOM:2.

But I would buy AOM:2, even if it sucked.

As long as MS doesnt stop supporting Aoe2DE and Aoe3DE together with new content, I am up for AoM2 or AoMDE.
