This might be a silly question but how do you play the campaigns? I am subscribed to these mods, but i do not know how to start the game. Are you using standard game?
@PhillySouljah thank you very much man! this is awesome!!
Game mode → custom Scenario
then choose the name
Main Menu → Campaigns → Custom Campaigns → Select campaign from dropdown
He wanted to play campaign, not scenario
I am playing the Seljuk- Rise of an Empire. I cannot advance because the Kutalmish will not come at me, to kill 30 of their supporters. Any way to trigger a conflict/rebellion?
Hi MrTankMcNamara,
I wonder what went wrong. There’s a time-based trigger for Kutalmish to spawn units when Tughril dies. I’d have to check the triggers and possibly update the scenario to put in a failsafe so thanks for letting me know about this.
As for getting around your problem, except for restarting, I’m not sure. Kutalmish spawns in the NE side of the map just above the Kara-Khanids and near the Aral Sea (where you’d see a little desert), so you could send some units there to see if any did spawn. Possibly because AIs sometimes get stuck, the units are there, but just aren’t moving.
If you see only a handful and they’re at the very edge of the map, it may be that the AI didn’t move and so the repeated spawning didn’t happen (they got blocked). In that case, there are supposed to be subsequent spawnings of small groups (the normal Nomadic Tribes that have pestered you over the scenario), so you might have to increase the speed of the scenario and wait until enough of them have spawned to get the kill count value. It would take a while, though, since the additional spawns are in small groups with several minutes between spawns.
Those are the best ideas I have on a workaround, aside from chalking it up as a fluke and restarting. I’d have to see if it happens on my end to see if any game patch updates might have changed something. I’m sorry you ran into this issue.
I saw the flags on the edge that look like where they enter. I built pallisade walls there as that seemed to annoy them in past attempts. No reaction yet. Thanks.
OK, this was a mistake by me.
OK, tried it again. The Kutalmish did begin to show up, probably at least 50-75 of them, but none of my kills ever count as part of the 30 required. And the Kipchak priests heal them while fighting so it is almost impossible to win. Let me know when there is a fix and update on all these issues. I can only acquire about 30 men before they show up.
Unfortunately, looks like the known game issue where the kills statistic are not registering has impacted this scenario (you may have noticed kill counts are at 0 on the aftermath screens of matches). The next game patch will fix that issue and the scenario will work again as intended. I regret that I’m unable to do anything to the scenario now to get the kills to be recognized and work properly.
I would recommend trying other scenarios instead. Finehair and Komnenos also rely on kill counts, so I would suggest one of the others.
Can I translate “A Journey to the West” into Italian? Is there a guide about how to load the campaign for editing it?
Hi PhillySouljah, great missions across the board. Loved Finehair and Cao Cao. Thanks for remaking Sforza, beautiful maps in that campaign.
I’m having the same problem as MrTankMcNamara. Restarted twice but no killcount for Kutulmish. Also, After Tughril dies, his son does not spawn at the Great Tent.
Sure, you can. Translating into another language is a great idea!
First, you’ll need the scenario file. You can get that simply by extracting the scenario via the in-game campaign editor. As soon as you open the campaign file in the editor, it’ll ask you if you want to save and extract. You can then open the scenario as normal in the editor. Note that the scenario file itself will appear in a folder under C:\Users<your windows profile>\Games\Age of Empires 2 DE<a random number string>\resources_common\scenario
From the editor, you’ll have to update all the triggers with text. Fortunately, I label these. [D] means dialogues, [N] means renames, and [Obj] means objective text. Should be pretty self-explanatory from that point.
Let me know if you run into any other issues.
Thanks, niloy64! Unfortunately, you’re not going to be able to get past Tughril’s death until the kills statistic bug is fixed in the next patch. I’m very sorry but there’s nothing I can do at this time without changing the intended sequence of the scenario. Please return to the scenario later after the patch fixes the issue.
Received unfortunate reports that the kill counter issue that has affected Seljuk is also impacting Haiku of the Ronin. Please note that both scenarios will work as intended as soon as the patch fixing the kill counter issue is released. Sorry for the inconvenience.
OK, I’ve found it; at first I didn’t understand how to load the campaign, until I’ve tried to use the combobox at the upper right of the campaign editor. Once translation will be complete, what are the steps to upload the translated scenario to you?
Oh no, you can just upload the translated campaign up to Ageofempires.com via the in-game mod manager tied to your account. Just give me credit for the scenario in the description.
Hello! Thank you for the incredible campaings! I enjoy it a lot the one about Cao Cao; and now I am doing the Journey to the West. But I can not covert the monks of the holy men! Too many! And they end up converting my monks! Some help or ideas? Thanks!
Thanks, @PrinceHongli! Glad you’ve been enjoying the campaigns!
The part with the monks and the holy men is very challenging! It’s basically a puzzle.
Here are a few tips:
- There are more holy men than your monks so you will lose if you “aggro” all the holy men. Be careful that you don’t ‘activate’ all the holy men. Start trying to convert only the ones closer to the gate first so the ones further away don’t try to convert you until you get a numbers advantage.
- Make sure your monks are always converting someone. If any of them have faith and aren’t converting, they’re being wasted and you will lose.
- When you convert a holy man, he may have full faith for conversion. As soon as you convert one of them, click to him and have him start converting more holy men.
- If necessary, slow down the game speed and pause. This will give you more time so you can manage your monks.
Overall, it really is a puzzle and you need to be perfect managing your monks, but it’s definitely doable! Hope that helps!
Hi @PhillySouljah! Thank you for taking time to give some advice. I just finished the campaing! And I am very happy! I did what you said, to slow down the game speed in order to control my own monks.
But also I build some wood walls to separete the Holy Men, so I could attract each one of them our of their compound and then convert them. It worked out!
Also, it would be great if you did a campaing set on Beijing´s Forbidden City. Or a campaing about building the Ming and Qing Forbidden City.
Once again, thank you!!! Many blessings for you!
