To be honest, I’ve been focusing on writing my first novel (historical fiction), but you never know…

What place and period is your novel based on :open_mouth:

Here’s my (initial) pitch:
A palace gardener overcomes murder plots and court intrigues to seize the kingship in this novelization of the rise of Sargon of Akkad, history’s first empire builder.

So sad to hear about it,We want you back!

Holy Crow! 2300 BC stuff!!!
Fascinating! If you think about it, humanity could have gone in a different direction if the first empire in Sumer or Akkad never happened and humans lived peacefully. Just imagine, no taking other territory, every community living in peace, no wars, humanity would have lived in harmony and in abundance. We would have been so advanced by now.
2500 years later, the world is still stuck with imperialism, expansions and blocs. What a shame!

Once the novel is done, a custom campaign based on the novel?
This will be your oldest campaign! Thanks so much @PhillySouljah and do keep us posted on the progress of your novel.

Hi @PhillySouljah
I just finished your - ’ Bjorn Ironside’ campaign. Really enjoyed it.
Exploring France, Spain, Italy, Greece, Africa was amazing. The exploration aspect in this map is incredible.
I like the gameplay elements as well, you are not allowed to boom, but you can buy Viking units by using your heroes. Destroying buildings generates gold. This keeps it very interesting.

At the end, you really feel the power of the Viking hordes bulldozing through everyone.
I also enjoyed the side quests where

  • You need to find a relic somewhere in the map
  • You need to find missing princess

One thing i noticed is that there is hardly any incentive to explore Africa and defeat the Ethiopians or the Berbers. Once the exploration is over, it gets grindy and its a matter of bulldozing everyone.
The AI are extremely defensive and wont attack you and give you a challenge. They wait for you to arrive and defend. How easy or difficult is it to enable the AI to be more of a challenge? Maybe it involves a lot of work.
All in all a very cool scenario showcasing entire Europe. Amazing design, story, voice overs.
Thank you once again @PhillySouljah

War and conflict drove innovation and technology.

Holy Cow @PhillySouljah
I started the ‘The Last Frontier’ custom campaign and got my ### handed to me many times! There are hoards of Infantry attacking you from all directions. And when you contain one wave the next wave starts form multiple enemies!
This must be the most terrifying start in all of your campaigns?
Saving the Hadrian’s Wall is impossible.
The only option is to defend and ensure your bottom area has lots of villagers with a strong economy.
This campaign really stressed me out at the start. All the 3 opponents were infinitely spamming units and had no eco. I don’t enjoy AI infinite spam scenarios.
But once you get the Castle age and get crossbows, we start to get some sense of control. Once we get to imperial and with Arbalest’s, there was no opposition. Also its better to only use the Saxons only once.

Awesome campaign as usual. Really shows how the Britons must have felt when the Romans abandoned them with enemies pouring in all directions.
I really liked those last legionaries near the Hadrian’s Wall. Sons and grandsons of roman legionaries who kept alive, roman tactics and the tradition to protect the wall. Felt like game of thrones and the Night’s watch!
Thanks again for the wonderful work.

The ‘Last Stand at Orkney’ was a good challenge in terms of defensive organization and hustle. You really need to get the 3 relics and then defend with all your might against non stop raids by the Vikings. I enjoyed the defensive aspect of this scenario. But the fact that we were so retrained regarding population and units, ensured there was no scope for exploration or any side missions. This was a pure all out defense and bide your time mission. I enjoyed this one and big thanks to Filthydelphia once again!

You once dared to make campaigns for other games in the saga before the DE editions?..

Khmer Kings of Old Cambodia - What a beautiful scenario! You are in feudal age surrounded by Enemies in Castle and Imperial Age.
For average players like myself, the best bet is to take all your villagers and monks east and move past the Chen’la (red) base and Champa (green) area and setup your towncenter near the coast very near the green towncenter. That way you can put pressure on Green by now allowing them to boom. You can take care of Green. Srivijaya (Yellow), Mon (Cyan) takes care of red, Dai Viet (Orange) and Tai People (Gray).
All of this gives you lots of time to boom and setup defenses.
Yellow and Cyan then will keep spamming units. Your defenses should take care of them. While you can then explore the islands to the east. Borneo has lots of gold and stone. Also focus on getting relics. This will ensure you wont have any gold issues. Then u can push with a giant army towards Cyan. My Army had 50 Arbalests and 50 Ballista Elephants with 20 monks.
That can take care of Cyan and by the time you start attacking SriVijaya, you must have met all of your objectives.
Amazing scenario. The Start was filled with lots of tension with enemies in all sides. Thanks again @PhillySouljah

Thank you @PhillySouljah for playing this creating this campaign - The Rise of Seljuks
The start was very slow - especially defeating Red Oghuz Turks, which took forever, as you need to explore the giant map. Once you deal with them, you are better of allying with the Kara-Khanids (yellow) against the Kipchaks (green) as there is lot of resources in the east. Then you are made to go down south to capture the Pink wonder (Buyids). Once that is done, you face hoards of Mongols. When I say hoards, I mean it! Your high powered Mangudai’s can take them out with the support of 6 Imams (*who are the real stars of this scenario!). After dealing with the Mongols, you can at last boom with some TC’s and Castles. Your next task is to face the Christians - Gray - The Byzantines. At this point, i would recommend to move your attention towards the Ghaznavids (Cyan). Move your awesome Siege Rams, Mangudai’s and Imam army and destroy the 3 Ghanavid camps. The Ghaznavids mount strong opposition, but your army should take care of them. By the time you do this, you will also get some 6-7 Elite War Elephants with 650 HP by converting them. Now its time to move towards the Byzantines. I recommend to finish Ghaznavids before the Byzantines, because there is a scripted event after destroying the Byzantines, where you will get INFINITE Mongol horse archer spam! And tackling both the Ghaznavids and the Mongol spam is impossible. This is VERY important!
So head west and take out the Byzantine wonder. You will face Cataphracts and Legionaries. But your Mangudai/Imam army should be able to handle it. While all of this is going on, ensure you have a strong economy.
Once the Byzantines are defeated, Malik Shah I will appear as the ruler of the Seljuks. At this point, one of the task’s is to destroy the Ghaznavids (cyan), which we already did! Also, you are warned about the infinite Mongol spam! You build a wonder and Malik Shah, will be happy and we win the scenario. Just as i was about to win it, I see the hoards and hoards of Mongol horsemen on the horizon. Thank god, I avoided them!!!
What a scenario! This really was made beautifully showing multiple generations of the Seljuk dynasty leaders and how we help them fulfill their ambitions.
Loved it. Very epic!

Another opening for Khmer Kings is simply to move all units (taking care to get all of the priests, relics and hero units you can, and set up base in Borneo.

@PhillySouljah Just finished the - Byzantine Restoration on hard!
Just amazing!
Relying on tax revenue reflects the realities of how the Byzantines functioned at that time in their history. The priority for them was to reconquer lost towns and islands to increase revenues. And that gameplay aspect was superbly implemented. It was a challenging situation, the Byzantines found themselves in at this point in their history.
I loved how you are challenged the arrival of the Pecheneg hoards and then the Pretenders! While you are busy reclaiming territory, you need defend Constantinople! Very cool.
Byzantine Empire has always fascinated me. The Sassanid Persian empire and the Byzantines were militarily and economically exhausted from decades of fighting one another. That made it easy for the Moslems to conquer modern day North Africa, Turkey, Balkans. But the fact the Byzantines remained the most powerful economic, cultural, and military force in Europe for most of their 1000 year existence.!
Thank you once more @PhillySouljah for creating this masterpiece and enabling us to experience Byzantium history!

Hi @PhillySouljah
I just finished the Kings of West Africa - Tenkamenin. Once the victory condition is satisfied (i.e we transport 20 villagers to Timbukto) - then i hit the ‘Continue’ button.
The End Cutscene does not play and then it asks me to go to the map and go back to Main Menu.
I have no other choice but to go back to the main menu.
When I do that, it does not show campaign progress. It does not show Dunama (1240) mission on the map,
so I can continue.
I tried reloading a save and started from the scratch. Still the same.
I think the issue is that the End Cutscene is not playing, which does not register the campaign progress?
Any pointers would be useful. I was very excited to try out your African campaigns.
If anyone else has some clues do share!

It’s one of the various custom campaign bugs, the devs are tracking it, but for right now, you will need to just use the “i r winner” cheat to “finish” the level, and move on.
