Latin American general post

I don’t know if I’m alone with this, but I think it could be cool to see some kind of Guarani civ, starting as the original natives but later morphing into the nation of Paraguay. It could be a nice experiment, combining elements from native, european and post-colonial civs. If it worked, it would offer something unique

Something feels inherently wrong about a Guarani civ just straight up becoming Paraguay as the game advances, like, I can’t quite put my finger on it, but there’s something off.

More strange is that the Mexicans can become Mayans in the mid-late game. In my opinion this would be a more correct way to add postcolonial civilizations.

while the implementation is a bit fantasy the idea is reasonable enough and is based of the cruzob rebellion.

The Maya should be a standalone civ, not the offshoot of a revolution. So in a way this is actually worse than not having them because people will use it to argue that the Maya are already in the game and don’t deserve a full civ.

The idea is they don’t just abruptly change into Paraguay, but gradually add European features like influences from the Jesuits. Even then, I’d probably just limit it to a Paraguay revolution.

And that’s exactly the problem that came with the addition of Mexicans civ.

In classic AoE 3 we had these American civs:

  • two indigenous civs: Lakota and Iroquois
  • one highly developed pre-Columbian civ: Aztecs

In the DE version, the first South American civ has finally been added, i.e. a representative of the highly developed pre-Columbian civ: Incas. So in total we have 4 native American civs in the game: two highly developed and two indigenous.

Mexicans civ along with the possibility of the Mayan revolution became in a way a two-in-one civilization. Unfortunately, but it seems to me that this rules out the chances of adding the Mayans as a full-fledged civ. Mayans were of course a highly developed civilization. So I think that by modeling on Mexican civ, you could create Gran Colombian civ, which would have the opportunity to Muisca revolution - South American highly developed civilization.

Additionally, I think indigenous South American civs like Mapuche and Tupi would be useful. Brand new South American (Caribbean and perhaps Mesoamerican as well) Minor Civilizations should be added to this to spice up the South American maps. Thus, South America would finally have a decent representation of pre-Columbian civilizations.

When it comes to post-colonial civs, the strongest candidates are, of course, Brazilians, Argentines and the above-mentioned Gran Colombians.

If this were to happen, it would mean that the civ Aztecs were wrongly themselves in the Imperial Age - then they would have to be Mexican…

Not that I’m too opposed to it, but I think it would bring about a huge inconsistency among the civilizations of the Americas.

I’m not too versed in Colombian history but I don’t remember a Muisca rebellion or revolution. In the case of the (in-game)Maya rev, there was a Maya people rebellion in the Cruzob region, in Yucatán, that survived one way or another until the 20th century. It’s not because the devs wanted to add the Maya to the game just because, but because there was a big historic rebellion

It because not happen…the Muisca was conquered by the Spanish in 1537…

Edit: Hoop below me posted a Muisca rebellion

Yes, yes there was a Muisca rebellion.. It’s just not that particularly noteworthy because it got drowned out be the larger context about anti-fiscal protests of the time.

People in this forum always jump to conclussions without checking first, smh.

I think there is enough historical information to make the Guaraní and Paraguayans into two separate civilizations. The Guaraní civilization could be based on the so called “Jesuit Republic of Paraguay”, a civilization built around some thirty “Reductions” or communities of Guaraní natives with Jesuitical missions. As mentioned above they could combine elements of the Jesuits and the Guaraní. They could have defensive bonuses since they fought off raids by the Portuguese (the Bandeirantes). This Guaraní-Jesuit civilization could also enjoy economic bonuses related to their cultivation and trade of yerba mate (a traditional tea). The Paraguayans on the other hand could be a militaristic civilization with offensive bonuses over economic advantages. This military orientation would be based on the strong Paraguayan army during the cataclysmic War of the Triple Alliance (also called the Paraguayan War). It took the combined forces of Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay (the Triple Alliance) to defeat Paraguay.

Here is an excellent proposal for a Guaraní civilization made in this forum a long time ago.

And here is a nice informative video about the Paraguayan War.

I would like a campaign of this, together with the independence of Colombia.

You could even make a mod of this. Hell, you can make a mod set in the 19th century, and given that there were a lot of wars of liberty then you could call it, I don’t know, Battles of Freedom

But these is a Comunero Rebellion from Criollo citizens,not Muisca rebellion.

Would can be only Paraguay…

Yeah,or with historical battles will be fine…

Bro literally just read the Ambrosio Pisco article on wikipedia. This is literally what I said in the post, it was a Muisca uprising amidst a greater context.

Ok,maybe can be like the Rebellion of Tupac Amaru card…

It has to be called “Triple Alliance War” because of the other war

That video is informational, such as a last minute essay done for the sole purpose of passing a class;

It has many holes in the narrative, errs on oversimplification on some issues and sensationalizes others. After all it is an abridged ausländer point of view, therefore it fails to communicate the complexities of the political context that led to the war, its quirks and what were its long term effects for all countries involved (sole winners; banks of england) nonetheless its barely decent BUT

Using sad music at the end of the video fits badly with the reality of PY history, after the biggest war of that time, it was once again part of the second biggest war in South America (Chaco War), all in less than a hundred years, from all that came the saying;

“War is comfortable for the Paraguayan soldier”

Amen

I made a full Chile civ design for the Definitive Edition, which can be seen here.
