I would welcome any expansion from the developers that further explores this time period, adds new civs related to it like Western Roman Empire, Eastern Roman Empire. Their content is beautiful and adds richness to the game. Also gives me more content to work with!

I also see anything they do related to this era as validation of our concept and vision. No greater compliment than that!

Dynasties of India IMO was a professional nod to the amazing mod team @ Dharma Expansion. Remember that current DE comes from FE, originally a mod team themselves that was entrusted with the series and I think they delivered in a big way.

Iā€™m curious if anyone here has played the Roman civ in AoEO. It has tons of unique units and really beautiful architecture. I think you all would enjoy it.

I have seen it on Steam but understand itā€™s no longer supported and I have not been able to get it to launch/play on my computer.

AoEO is now unsupported, but the community took over, like they have in the past with other AoE games. I canā€™t remember what the project is called though, I think it might be Project Celeste?

I remember tying to install and get it to work but with no success. If someone has good instructions on how to make it work I would love to try it out.

Canā€™t help there, I only play AoE2, and donā€™t really want or need to play the other games.

Fair enough, might be a good place to get ideas and incorporate into our mod.

If you get it and find anything interesting, tell me, and Iā€™ll see if it might be a viable option to incorporate, although balance has to come first, and it would likely be additions to the editor. We probably have enough on our plate already for now though, without adding all that extra stuff.

I am on the team who made the Romans and would love to see an outline of your civ. Is everything in this thread? Or is it posted elsewhere?

The Romans are near to my heart and Iā€™d love to see how you are expressing them in a different Age game.

All 23 civs are somewhere above in the thread, I designed them. Jump to the 370th post I think, then 371 is part 2, and then Cretans are somewhere down a lot. We donā€™t just have 1 Roman civ though, we have 2. Both the Republic and Empire are represented.

Yeah thatā€™s a good call to split them in two. We made the decision to go with one and aimed for the late Republic/early Empire to land in the golden age of Rome (late Punic Wars, triumvirate, Augustus, etc.). Obviously we had to leave some units out and make some tough calls.

Yeah, I could easily have made several more UTs spread over both civs, and probably another few UUs, but that wouldnā€™t really work balance wise.

This made me happy. Any chance you and/or some/all your old team mates want to join us! Rome wasnā€™t built in a day! We could use some extra hands!

our teammates are busy making the Indians next for AoEO. I am not sure how much cross-training there is since AoE2 uses a different engine than the one for the 3d Age games (AoE3, AoM, AoEO). I know we were in touch with some AoE3 and AoM modders from time to time when we were in a pinch looking for insights.

I can certainly tell you all about why we chose the units we chose, though. I see your Romans have two unique units, is that right?

You need just to unzip the folder files after downloading them and then click on the new run file for starting the installation process. A steam account is required and from there you can download the content of the game.

Age of Empires Online is relatively difficult to get started with both the installing and the introduce of playing the game. But once you get the hang of it, you will be able to enjoy the full scope of this great game.

I am on it. The Romans play himself very well and I am always happy, when I choose their culture for playing the campaigns.

I give you an absolute praise for some of the Romans unique units. Decurion, Centurion and Primus Pilus are a very good choice and these units are very indeed roman.

I see it usually like you in terms to the architecture of the buildings, but not always. I do not like certain capital buildings because too many cypresses are used, which means that these buildings itself are less massively equipped compared to the same buildings of the other 6 cultures. But still, a high number of other buildings in the game are well done worked in terms of architecture.

Yes, I usually have it that. Also congratulations to the Roman landscape set, which you designed new. Not temperate, not mediterranean, but warm temperate. Well researched

Since AoEOā€™s civs are full of unique units and buildings, thereā€™s a lot of flexibility in civ design. I am really impressed with how everyone here can make great civs while adhering to AoE2ā€™s more regimented model. The Legionary is a perfect choice for this game, imo. I enjoy that they have both a ranged and melee attack. We did something similar with our Centurion unit to also incorporate the pilum/javelin throw with the ubiquitous roman sword. To force our unit into melee combat, we opted to give its ranged attack a long cooldown, so the unit automatically throws the javelin and then races in with their sword.

Giving the Romans another unique infantry unit in the Republic and a cavalry unit in the Empire makes some historical sense. Roman cavalry was historically fairly mediocre, but gameplay likely dictates the need for a cavalry unit. The cavalry the Romans used tended be outsourced from northern Europe and from Africa, but given the constraints of AoE2 where you really only have room for 1-3 unique units, it would probably feel pretty odd to do that here. Good choices, all.

Preview of new graphics for next Release of Romae ad Bellum.

Roman Hippodrome Screenshot showcases a 3 Part Building you will be able to use in Scenario Editor to construct your own Hippodrome! Inspired by Circus Maximus, now you can recreate the glory of some of Romeā€™s most majestic metropolises. This creation is brought to you by AbeJin who did a fantastic job creating this in Sketchup. Thank you AbeJin!

Also in the background you may have noticed a second version of Sapsanā€™s upgraded house. Now Romans have 3 Unique Houses per Age. The Upgraded version is inspired by Roman Insula (Apartment Buildings). The two story structure really creates an Urban affect for Roman Cities. The Houses will come with their own professionally rendered and animated destruction sequences.
