ROMAE AD BELLUM - (RAW:E) Rome at War Expansion Concept

yea 4.5gb is pretty huge. the new SLD format (once supported by slx studio), it should lower the the compressed size by about half, though im not sure if that would help towards the speed of people subscribing it with low computer specs, though it definitely helps with people with lower internet speed.

I’ve begun working on the Cothon, a Carthaginian unique building unlocked after an Imp UT. This won’t make it into an update for a while, but once completed, it will serve as an 8x8 tile mega shipyard, capable of training ships in groups of 5.

i dont think in groups of 5 will work, unless you give them 0 train time and limit it using unused resources but that would also make it beyond OP.

you MIGHT be able to work around this using the latest caravanserai effect but its beyond annoying and not desirable

No, I know how to make it work, I’ve done my research. There are pre DE techniques that should do it I think. I have to test it out, but I’m pretty sure I can get it going.

oh thats good to hear. if you can get them to work pls share. HD pretty much the same as DE with some new stuff in DE so if it works in HD it should work in DE too

I keep getting sucked into a debate in Ancient Friends and other threads debating the merits of adding ancient civs into AOE 2. Romae ad Bellum is in many ways a partial port of AOE, at least in terms of graphics and style, but expands the time line to roughly 500BC -500AD. I love what we have accomplished with the mod and will continue to invest in this concept, adding civs, unique units etc.

However I am intrigued about exploring a spin off project . A more narrowly focused mod, one that adds maybe the Vandals and Western Roman Empire, anchored more strictly to timeline of AoE2, but going back maybe 300’s AD.

Concept would add a few unique units styled after Empire of 3rd Century forward, slightly revised Medi and European Eastern architecture set, designs would be heavily influenced by assets already available in the scenario editor.

Curious what followers of this mod think about the idea and if there would be interest.

Update 90% of respondants said no need. So that means I am definitely going to do it!!! :stuck_out_tongue: Sometimes you have to have faith in an idea when no one else does. I think I was the only one to vote yes. So that makes it unanimous, usually a bad sign

  • Add Western Romans and Vandals
  • Byzantines are the Western Romans, no need

I honestly dont mind the extra mod/asset, but if that would take away focus, time and money from your current mod I’d vote no. I simply wish this to be completed first

@thieftdp8498 appreciate the candid feedback, and understand concern.

Why isn’t there an option for neither of the civs?

The options should be

  1. Vandals
  2. WRomans
  3. Both
  4. None

I personally voted No need. I wouldn’t like adding WRomans but I’m neutral to Vandals.

Romae ad Bellum Release 8.20.22 (Latest Version)

@TheConqueror753 did an extensive rebuild of the DAT. Incorporating some awesome new game mechanics. Hats off to his ideas around civ design and balance changes.

Sapsan continue to pump out units for us too. In this release we are introducing two custom new unit graphics the Athenian Hoplite and Spartan Hippeis.

I have added a couple new buildings: a reworked Roman Republic Wonder and a new Athenian Wonder the Parthenon. (Destruction animations to follow). Full Summary below:

Enjoy!!

Lets finish up the original version first and late think of other expansions or else this mod will also fall in to the pitfall of being too big to complete.

What do you mean? If you mean DAT stuff, I got every civ operational in about a week, but we are only releasing the fully finished ones.

ah i forgot to quote.I was referring to adding vandals idea.

Ok, that makes sense then. I definitely agree with you. There are like another 8 civs that need to be added first, then I’ll think about designing Vandals or some other ones.

Very well… now you need to make a mod of AoE 3 DE for AoE 2 DE xd…
