ROMAE AD BELLUM - (RAW:E) Rome at War Expansion Concept

There is more than one reason I A) reuse civ bonuses, and B) invent/use new styles of mechanics, and one of those reasons is to make it harder for the devs to copy all the work and claim it as their own.

As a bit of a roadmap kind of thing, hereā€™s the order we will probably be adding civs over the next few months:

  1. Macedonians (close to release, just waiting for UU to be finished up)
  2. Iberians
  3. Judeans
  4. Cretans
  5. Nubians
  6. Thracians
  7. Dacians

And that will tick off the current civ list.

If youā€™re generally worried about this, I think it would be worth figuring out exactly what the legal situation is. If you put a Creative Commons license on the mod and only distribute it through ModDB, Iā€™d be surprised if they can use or take credit for any of it. But Iā€™m not a lawyer, so take anything I say with a pinch of salt.

AoE2HD used some assets from mod packs (possibly including the original Rome at War mod) but I have no idea whether the original creators were credited. But maybe those mods were created by people who worked for FE anyway?

Most of the original creators were credited in the FE website.HD still has the heavy pikeman skin made by Kor.

If you havenā€™t played the new update, I highly recommend you try out the NEW Double Unique Tech game mechanics which offers the player some interesting balance decisions. Either tech closes the other off. The feature gives depth to the civs while introducing historical realism.

@TheConqueror753 did a great job designing and introducing these into gameplay and the UI in a creative way. Hope you guys enjoy it and please share feedback!

Curious what folks favorite UT is and how they played out in your game.

thats what the community is for. MS doing such would give a bad light to their name and would probably be made front page news, if it ever gets big enough.

we can only protect ourselves

Ok, maybe I just mentioned as an example justā€¦although we can still discuss it later in another topic if you wantā€¦

No, Iā€™m not sure if you understand. No-one in the R@W team is interested in discussing it, because none of us are interested in the concept. I donā€™t know if I speak for everyone, but Iā€™m pretty sure I speak for @rjgt3838, and considering the two of us are the data modders for R@W, you need to find someone else.

Ok, itā€™s fineā€¦I just had an opinionā€¦ letā€™s keep discussing R@W thenā€¦

Very well. Have you updated to the latest version of R@W?

I do not have it installed to the game, but I will see it later xdā€¦

I strongly recommend downloading it.

Yes, I will, although it would be only for skirmish no?..

You can also download the multiplayer version if you want to play with friends. Just search for Rome at War in the mod browser.

Oh well, and it wouldnā€™t affect the campaigns of aoe 2?.. It happens that I am a lot of playing campaigns and customs campaigns when the events come out, thatā€™s why I mention itā€¦

We have another excellent YouTube video from @IronKaiser5 showcasing a new civ the GERMANI!! IK does an amazing job showcasing the mechanics of the civ as a flexible stealth civ able to sneak across the map at speed in either defense or pillage mode. The double unique techs in both Castle and Imperial are also nicely showcased. Please check it out! The credit for these adventurous new dynamics come to you thanks to @TheConqueror753 our Mod team DAT and Civ Architect.

Couple notes about commentary: IK correctly identifies that tech tree UI is currently not supported

Also the Unit skins the Germani use are a combination of AOE and AOE2 scenario editor and regular units. We felt they fit the overall aesthetics for now while we build new custom assets for the mod. Please forgive us for any temporary historical inaccuracies.

The Fuedal Age buildings for Germani are brought to you by AbeJin. These are some of the most beautiful buildings in the mod IMO.

You can add player colored crest/plume to helmet.

The unit doesnā€™t have that historically, so it shouldnā€™t have it ingame. Also, the unit has already been released, and making changes like that is a lot of unnecessary work.
