Agreed. There’s so much that could be done to add some nice variety, polish, life, flash, beauty, and the like. More biomes, effects, weather, time of day changes, animals/insects, refined animations, etc. Just examples there, but the sky is the limit. If devs fear most of this stuff would be too taxing for PCs during ranked matches, then at least give it to those of us who don’t play or care about ranked.

How is the mostly non-interactive wildlife/gaia, and other set dressing elements in AoE4? Quantity, appearance, animations, etc.
Things like whales, dolphins, birds (hawks, eagles, owls, crows, etc.), frogs/toads, wolves, dragonflies, fireflies, butterflies, tigers, monkeys, and other climate-, biome-, time of day-, season-, and altitude-appropriate creatures.
Set dressing, mostly, but nice touches that help show an attention to detail or nice level of polish.

and one of my quotes from 1st thread:
There’s a lot of potential with AoE4, imo. But it needs to turn the corner from feeling like a “chessboard game with a fairly sterile environment and UI,” to a game that actually embraces the map/world/time and tries to transport you there. (Yes, the clinical/sterile UI also adds to the strong chess game/tactical vibe, imo.)
