The base Hoplite is already a great unit, it could kill the Legion (even before the nerf) and the Cataphract, and both of those are late Iron Age units.
The Hoplite already covers the role of the Ram and the Spearman, and it does so very well.
Scouts are terrible as it is, which is why I would like them to get an upgrade to Cohort, so they could counter Chariots.
AoE1 does not need a Trash counter to Cavalry, because Hoplites are not that expensive to afford, and they murder all Cavalry.
Cavalry is also very Gold intensive, and they lose badly againt a Hoplite + Composite Archer or Chariot Archer combo, to the point in that it is not even worth using Cavalry unless you have War Elephants or Scythe Chariots.
Neither Chariots nor Scouts necessitate a Trash counter either, because Archers actually counter both easily.
Rams would also never be used, unless they were broken OP, in a game in which the Hoplite exists, because it already is the strongest unit in the game, and slaughters both Cavalry and Buildings.
Yeah, but if a scout upgrade comes, there should be a trash counter. And persians do not have hoplites, iirc. You would give them to a lot of new possible civilization too, I don’t want to see gauls/celts or whatever with hoplites tbh.
No, i agree that celts should be added to the game, but that’s not the bare minimum anymore then…
I still think that rams should be there though, if new civs are added. It’s the most basic siege engine, it would fit better many of the potential new civs. Not the top priority though.
There’s a lot to talk about, honestly, but I guess people get tired after some time due to lack of consensus. Gates or no gates, path finding being called bad by some and acceptable by others, or reliability of towers.
We should stay on topic, though. Speaking about this thread’s issue, I think people ceased replying due to the new update being relatively close in time compared to the former one 9+ months ago. And, as @ExemptedScarf68 said, there’s plenty of bugs to focus on, after the ones fixed through via update 46777.
I don’t play much AOE1 (AOE3 is my one true love) but I certainly love AOE1 as well with its unique setting, excellent campaigns, and fast gameplay that doesn’t involve a bazillion walls, castles and garrisoning. My heart goes out to your people in your time of need.
That’s precisely the reason I love this game so much - it’s synergistic simplicity. This new update gave us renewed hope about the game future!
I love AoE III as well, for it’s unique approach to the Age formula.
