A Conjecture about the Next New Civilization

Yes, it can also be…

The mod Wars of Liberty has 42 civs and goes for more…I do not see why the 3 DE could not have such a number of civs, while they are balanced I do not see the problem with that…

Siam looted for the Burmese in 1767 and Burmese looted for the British in 1885…

I think that we will get only 1 civ on the spring.

Fan favourite Persia or Korea, but Brazil is cheaper cause doesnt need a new build set.

That was an assumption that I will only accept if the official word comes from any of the AOE 3 DE devs that we’re no longer having any new civs in the future. Much better to accept the truth now than bask in copium. So many theory crafting and suggestions but not even a roadmap at all for AOE 3 DE’s future in 2023 and beyond just a Spring update. Hopefully that one is a huge update.

So many civs still to be added but it really depends on the resources available to the devs from Microsoft. I hope the project manager of the team allocate more on content like new campaigns, new game modes that are replayable not like the Tycoon gimmick and lastly new civs. Persia, Korea, Siam, Omanis, Poland, Denmark, Zulu, Morocco; there are still dozens of civs to be added in-game if they really wanted to. Hopefully we get even one new civ for the Spring update.

World’s Edge decides the fate of more DLC/support for 3DE, not Microsoft. In fact from all accounts, Microsoft is pretty hands off in its gaming division. Our request for more content/support has to be directed at WE.

I think 3DE is going into hibernation mode between now and whenever they reconvene to start work on the spring update which we have no idea if it’ll be another AE update or just a regular patch like the ones we got before. The best way to see if the game is being worked on is steamdb and it hasn’t received an entry from tantalus since the AE patch and it’s following hotfixes. I reckon the 3DE devs have been redirected to something else.

They’re winding down before Christmas holidays after putting out a major update not that long ago. I doubt they’re going to be putting out anything major before a time of year when everyone is away. We’ll have to see what the pace is when they get back into things in the new year and are done hashing out the direction of the next update.

If I were 2DE devs I’d be awfully jelly the 3DE devs are winding down for the holiday season while they’re busy trying to save 1DE and keep the 2DE players happy. And who knows who is working on AoMRE.

Not saying you’re wrong but it’s not like people stop working near the end of the year, either.

Mexico DLC was released on December 1 of last year.

I love to see Germans civ split and also many many Africans civs like Congolese, Mutapa, Moroccans, etc… .

I very love Africans civs after African Royals DLC release.

Currently Germans after last update has become really Holy Roman Empire with Saxonian, Bavarian, Austrian, Westphalian and Oldenburg things included in Home City card. But Prussians is a still missing great power in this game. Holy Roman Empire include Austria (second German great power) with Habsburg Royal House and Bohemian Hussite War Wagons (because Bohemian Crown was a part of Austrian part of Austria-Hungary.

For representation of Bohemian Crown add to game Luxembourg Royal House (Sigmund of Luxembourg has been a Bohemian King).

Austria-Hungary is possible to added in Home City Card or other thing.

Yes,i know one dev in FE is brazilian and want to put Brazil in the game…but now i doubt will be a new civ this December like last year…

Not that they’re doing nothing, they’re just probably more in the conceptual stages of the next update since the last one was fairly recent. And since it’s close to the holidays they probably aren’t going to do many updates to the live game because if something goes wrong then they’d need to firefight while people want to be away.

I want Brazil (federal state civ), Persia (consulate/wonder civ), Maori (tribal council/community plaza civ), and Hawaii (politician/community plaza hybrid civ)

our hope big update next Spring for 2023’s years new civ

I want Caribbean Sea Rovers.

Covers the Golden Era of Buccaneering - Buccaneers/Flibustier armies that fought on land (think commissioned sea rovers, with flag bearers, drummers and lots of muskets) as well sea taking on Spanish towns, forts and ships, using Tortuga and Port Royal as home bases, then onto the Golden Era of Pirates, where sea rovers have less/zero support from nations and go full pirate, establishing the Flying Gang’s pirate republic of Nassau.

Home City: Nassau, Bahamas - the Bahamas regardless of the Pirate Republic had always been a popular set of islands for Boucaniers, Buccaneers, Flibustiers and Pirates.

Imperial Age could take Sea Rovers to the 1730 to 1830 period where Caribbean Piracy was pretty much stamped out at the end of it. During this last period of piracy we had lots of privateers (pirates to the enemy nations of course) in the many North American and Latin American (Insurgente Privateers) wars of independence as well as the last pirates such as Lafitte and his pirate bases.

Most sea rover units are armed with muskets and pistols and multiple units are also armed with (weaker than normal) grenades, stinkpots or firepots as charged shots (automatic abilities after long cool downs). Sea rover units would be very expensive and take more pop slots to reflect not only their self-funded (and mostly top-notch, certainly better than Spanish equipment) weaponry, but their overall smaller size of forces (again, still not something to be sneezed at - there were piratical armies of sharpshooter buccaneers into the 1000s taking on tough fortress-protected cities).

Quirks for the Sea Rovers would be:
• The ability to Plunder from ships and buildings
• Very costly but well-armed and versatile units
• Can invite corrupt Governors in much the same way as Consulates - French, Dutch and English Governors allows legit support (though less Plunder and less unique pirate units)
• Almost infantry-only forces on land.
• ‘mini’ hero units in the form of Buccaneer Captains that boost the plunder rate.
• Ships that have a Captain garrisoned in can use the ‘boarding action’ ability - essentially a close range (aoe2) monk-style convert.
• Aging up would allow you to select a ‘haven’ port - a pirate friendly location (Petit Goave, Port Royal, St Thomas, etc) which gives you Federal style unique shipments.
• Can revolt to St Mary Island, Madagascar leading to some very tough pirate units (the Roundsmen) and native allies (Malagasy Warriors)
• Biggest weakness is against cavalry.

Some example units:
• Boucaniers - the OG buccaneers. Jerky-making pirates that hunt and later (age II onwards) skirmish on the side
• Freebooters - the sailor-musketeer buccaneers. Ex-English Civil War soldiers and French adventurers armed with Buccaneer Guns (loooooong barrel muskets), cutlass and later on, stinkpots (old school chemical weaponry)
• Forlorn Hope - Buccaneer Storming Party. Light infantry with grenades and axes for breaching walls.
• Sea Dogs - shock hand infantry. Cutlass armed sailors.
• Peragua - large sailing canoes that could carry many musket-wielding buccaneers as well as a swivel gun or too.
• Jamiaca Sloop - very fast but weak ship. Can be converted to a fire-ship.

Also to dispell a few things:
• Pirates/Buccaneers didn’t wear boots - they wore shoes or just barefoot.
• Peglegs and eyepatches were really not very common. Pirates had a really good insurance system so if you lost a hand you would be compensated for it and most likely would leave the Captain’s company.
• Whilst they used cutlasses, they much prefered muskets and pistols. And grenades, lots of grenades. They love gunpowder and were using flintlock weaponry before most national armies were fully equipped with them.
• Tricorne hats (Hollywood pirates) didn’t appear on pirates until after the 1730s (except maybe the odd Captain, landsman or grizzles Red Sea pirates of the pirate round). Most pirates wore fur caps, short brimmed hats (like bowler hats) and knitted caps.
• Sea Rovers were big fans of small boats and ships - only the late pirates took command of frigate-size ships. Most prefered Canoes, Peraguas and Sloops.

I’d be happy with any of these civs though I’m gonna be greedy out of love for the game and the devs work and hope they all make it in. I can dream can’t I?

They are a West Asian/Middle Eastern/Eastern European civ, not just “A Middle Eastern Civ” and definitely can’t be based off of present-day Turkey, which btw still has decent chunk of land in Europe today.

Russia is situated almost entirely in Asia but I don’t see you calling that an Asian civ.

That chunk of land that Turkey has in Europe is rather small compared with the rest of Turkey, which is in Asia and today’s capital in Turkey, Ankara happens to be completely in Asia. Of course Istanbul, which is located in Europe, was the capital of the Ottoman Empire but I just need to point that out. Even though a large chunk of Russia is in Asia and does have more land mass in Asia than in Europe, the reason I never refer to the Russians as an Asian civ is because the Russians originated completely in Europe as their origins traces back within Eastern Europe.

Russians originated in Europe and expanded to Asia. Turks originated in Asia and expanded to Europe

This is the best idea in this whole thread (except adding Poland) and I hope the devs read it. I wish I could press the heart on it more than once.

History really focuses on the famous pirates and not on the vast expanse of land which was effectively owned/occupied/supportive of them.

I don’t like this idea as a standalone civ, but it could definitely work as a revolution. Haiti is already essentially a pirate themed revolution. Ideally, Haiti would be based more on the slave revolt and have units such as Maroons, but apparently it’s too racist to actually depict the history of oppressed black people so they get to be pirates.

Haiti already has Buccaneers as a variant of the Pirate. However, it should be its own class of outlaw, especially after Pirates have been changed into shock infantry.

More units like the Freebooter you mentioned could take it to the next level. There could be even more revolution options like Jamacia, the Republic of Pirates, or Libertatia. These could even be secret revolutions only available to players who age up with the Gentleman Pirate.

Which is even worst.
