The Romanians are an umbrella civ that encompasses all the Romanian people of Wallachia, Transylvania and Moldavia that saw many invasions from the Ottomans, Magyars and even the Mongols.
Being a minor power, the Romanians played defense for most of the time in their history and had to rely on hit and run tactics, with an army made up partially by very professional troops and partially by trained peasants for the meat grinder, this will be reflected in their playstyle. A tough nut to crack when…
When you think of Boyar most people probably think of Russia. But Russia wasn’t the only Eastern European nation with Boyars. Lithuanians, Bulgaria, Romania and Serbia had Boyars as well.
Replacing the Knight-line with a Boyar-line for 3 civs (or 5 if Romanians & Serbs are added) would give more diversity to the roaster, much like the Indians are the “Camel civs” the Eastern Europeans could be the “Boyar civs”, not to mention it would give a more eastern european feel to the civs having an uniq…
This topic inspired me to make this one:
Basically, hopefully in the future will be a slavic-themed DLC with:
Croats
Serbs
Romanians/Vlachs/Wallachians (whatever you want to call them)
Slavs reworked as Ruthenians.
“But Romanians aren’t Slavic”, well, kind of.

Funny how Eastern Europe is so unrepresented that there was a whole discussion about what the Romanians are. Basically: Of course, genetically everyone is pretty much a mix of anything. But cultur…
What campaign idea you like best?

The Romanians/Vlachs, if they are to be added, already have the Dracula campaign. However, there is an issue with that. You will have a DLC civ play a non-DLC campaign. Maybe this is a good thing allowing players to try the new Romanian civ before they decide to buy it, or maybe the devs want to leave the Dracula campaign as it is not to add playable DLC civs in non-DLC campaigns.
With that in mind, in the event that Dracula isn’t turned into a Romanian c…
Just like we had 3 civs in Dynasties of India, we could have had 3 civs here: Armenians, Georgians and Wallachians/Romanians (same thing). It’s still the same geographic area, around the black sea, and the carpathian mountains still fit with the Mountain Royals name.
It didn’t even need a campaign, it already had Vlad the Impaler’s campaign.
Just wondering. Seems like a campaign built for co-op.
Also, don’t think RoR will have DLC but if it does the Dacians (from missions 2 and 3) would be cool.
In Romae ad Bellum they play similar to AoE2’s Romans:
The Dacians were related to Thracians but not the same people (spoke different langauges, different gods, different system of government, etc).
Originally starting with 8 gods (similar to Thracians) by 100 BC they developed into a monotheistic religion (just like Christianity) and s…
These are the top 3 most requested European civs from what I’ve seen on the polls, with Serbs and Croats being a close 4th and 5th but they could work in a slavic DLC.
The Italians can be renamed Genoese.
There’s already a few civ concepts out there, but even without the concepts I can see the Swiss as a Pikeman civ (would be really interesting to have a civ with very powerful pikemen), the Romanians a Paladin & Skirmisher (the skirmisher is a fun nod to Vlad the Impaler) and Venetians of cour…
Please make a Romanian civilization in Age of Empires 2. I find it weird that all other European civs are represented in one form or another (such as Slavs, Italians, which is really an umbrella) but no the Romanians.
The Romanians aren’t slavs, so the slav civ, while cool for their late-game bonus, doesn’t work for them. And needless to say the Romanians aren’t Italian. So I find the Romanians the last Age of Empires 2 European civilization that isn’t represented by anything really.
Vlachs, R…
(please note: I will make jokes but it’s all historically accurate)
Let me begin with a summary of Romania’s history:
[A Super Quick History of Romania]
And Moldova since it’s basically the same until 1812:

Both of these videos briefly mention Stephen the Great (and Vlad the Impaler, his cousin by the way. Yes, they were cousins. Not only that, but Vlad the Impaler helped Stephen the Great get his throne & Stephen the Great helped Vla…

It takes place between 1595 - 1601 so right at the end of Age of Empires 2 timeline. The oldest campaign is from 1604 so I think it fits.
Here is the whole story:
[Story of Michael the Brave ALL PARTS 1 - 5]
TL;DV - The 3 Romanian principalities of Wallachia, Moldavia and Transylvania were sandwiched between the great powers of Austria, Poland and the Ottomans who would fight for influence over them. Often a great power would sponsor a pretender, he would invade the principality…
The DLC I propose would add 3 Black Sea civilizations currently unrepresented in the game. The release of such an add-on could eventually complete the further addition of civs from this region. This expansion would add 3 civs bordering the Black Sea. Additionally, this DLC adds 5 new campaigns and renames the Slavs to Ruthenians.

Historical context:
TL;DR - The Kingdom of Hungary wanted to create buffer states between them and the Golden Horde to avoid another invasion. So they set up 2 vassal states in Wallachia and Moldavia. Eventually both revolted and became independent.
Bassarab, in Wallachia:
In Wallachia: Basarab became ruler of Wallachia in 1310, he revolted against the Kingdom of Hungary in 1325 and took the Banate of Severin from Hungary (de facto independent). The independence was still unrecognized by Hung…
For me, I have a few civs in mind:
Black Sea:
Romanians
Georgians
Armenians
Africa:
Zimbabwe
Ghana
Swahili
Asia/America
Goturks
Thai
Zapotecs
What would be the civs (rather than the geographic region) you want in the next DLC? Not limited to these 3, these are just my ideas.
I’ll start with a summary of Romania’s medieval history & battle tactics then follow up with a few suggestions from other users and finally my take on it.
Short History of Romania
When saying “Romanian” in the middle ages, one means 3 things: the state of Wallachia, the state of Moldavia and most of the population of Transylvania.
Historically, the Romanians had mostly hit & run cavalry army. Being focused more on asymetrical warfare than conventional war, due to being used to being outnum…

Historically, the Romanians had mostly hit & run cavalry army. Being focused more on asymetrical warfare than conventional war, due to being used to being outnumbered and knowing they would lose head-on.

I suggest making a DLC for Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition with the following 5 civilizations:
Romanians
Serbians (I know we have Slavs, but they are basically Russians, we also have Bulgarians)
Albanians
Georgians
Armenians
The first 3 civilizations and last 2 are going to be more different, but they will all share their differences. For example the Romanians are latin, the Serbians are slavic while the Albanians are their own thing.
They all fought the Ottoman Empire at some point, bu…
I recently made a topic suggesting adding the Vlach/Romanian civillization and Stephen the Great campaign (1457 - 1504) and further down in the same topic I suggested Bassarab and Bogdan (1310 - 1367) as an alternative. I don’t expect nor want to see 3 Vlach campaigns in the game, my no.1 choice still remains Stephen the Great but for those who wanted alternatives in a different time period I suggested Bassarab and Bogdan and now, I wish to suggest another right at the end of AoE 2’s timeframe -…
The origins of the Wallachians are a mystery, the majority of contemporary scholars such as Kekaumenos, John Kinnamos, Simon of Kéza, Poggio Bracciolini, Aeneas Sylvius Piccolomini, Nicolaus Olahus wrote that the Vlachs ancestors had been Roman colonists settled in Dacia Traiana as they speak a latin-based language, their name “Vlachs” comes from the old Germanic “stranger” which was used to describe the Romans and in their tongue they still call themselves “Romani” meaning “citizens of the Roma…
You have added Bulgarians, Cumans, Slavs, Hungarians, everyone around Romanians except Romanians.
You have a campaign with the Romanians, Vlad Dracula’s campaign, but no Romanian civillization.
May I please request to add Romanians in the Definitive Edition? Now that it’s the Difinitive Edition I don’t think we’ll be seeing more Age of Empires 2 updates afterwards, it would be great to be able to play as your own nation in Age of Empires 2.
Name? Romanians in the middle ages used to be called…
Hi,
I was happy to see Dracula’s campaign in the Forgotten Empires DLC, especially since Age of Empires II is such a popular game.
Romania was never important in the play of major powers, which is why most historical games ignore Romania, but I was sightly dissapointed to notice that there’s no Vlach civilization, instead the players plays with 3 different civilizations: the Turks, the Magyars and the Slavs.
Can you make an update with the Vlach civilization? It’s a small change but it would …
